WTF! Texas Board Of Education Declare Hip Hop Is Not A Cultural Movement

and you dodge my other question....

is that "consensus" that decides on the "standard" a majority of white, or non-white people?

You missed it, but I already answered your question.
The "consensus" is being reached by the MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO DECIDE ON A STANDARD.
It is irrelevant to the discussion at hand if law is "white" or "black", as it never represents a REAL majority of those REPRESENTED BY REPRESENTATIVES.

It is also irrelevant to the discussion if the PROCESS itself was DEMOCRATIC or not. Because it is NEVER democratic.

This sounds complicated, but it's not:
when 50% of the Americans vote, and of those, 50% vote for YOU, that doesn't mean that you represent 50% of Americans, but only 25% of them. Now decisions regarding laws will be made in the name of the remaining 75% as well, by the REPRESENTATIVES of the 25% minority that is.

But that doesn't mean that the REPRESENTATIVES of the 25% REALLY represent the "consensus" of those who voted for them (in fact, in the US, laws are FOR SALE).

Again, just because YOUR REPRESENTATIVES are racists, doesn't make YOU one. The parents and students in Texas can still voice their opinion by taking the power away from their representatives and decide DEMOCRATICALLY what THEIR consensus (information->facts->"common" knowledge) really is and how they want to be represented in said "consensus" (here, it is synonymous to "law of the land").

Hypothetically speaking:
When 90% of the Texan parents and students decide that Afro-Americans should be referred to as "apes" in biology books and Caucasians as the "super-race", that won't make it less racist or a scientific fact, but it will make it a "real democratic decision".
And while this will be the information out there then and become "common" knowledge, it won't make it a fact (read: true).

In short: the parents and students would have to vote and tell their representatives that they DO see Hip Hop as a major cultural force in the past 30 years and today. That wouldn't make it a fact.

Now what if 90% of them decide that Intelligent Design ergo Christian(ity)/ Theology is science AND that Hip Hop was a major cultural force? LOL
This is why in many cases, scientific facts should be at the core of education and NOT democratic decisions.

the MAJORITY OF THOSE WHO DECIDE ON A STANDARD.

lol @ you not being clear and specific on EXACTLY WHO the "majority" is...

F_or_Deaf, would anything he said be invalid if he specifically said the majority are white? Look beyond that.

Is there not oppression everywhere? The Chinese for example. What about Iran? Or maybe some African nations? They aren't white (well, Iranians are Aryan but you know what I mean).

This is about more than just white vs black.

It's white vs minorities.
It's conservative vs liberal
It's Republican vs Democrat
It's Christianity vs secularism.
It's ignorance vs education.

Ultimately, it's about power. When you get to see the daily workings of politics, you come to realize that everything is planned and meticulous (especially with Republicans...Democrats could learn a thing or two from them, in this regard). What's happening isn't an accident. It's deliberate.

The Republican party is highly organized and extremely uniform. They have brilliant think tanks that provide them with strategies to accomplish their goals and they systematically carry out the instructions. The Texas school board used to have a Democrat majority until the Republicans decided to make it a priority to win those seats. Although at the time, small local victories may seem trivial, you see it come to fruition here. Now, there is a call to Republican mouthpieces to cover this story and paint it as conservatives "correcting liberal bias." That's the spin you're going to see on this story.

Going back to power, this type of deliberate misinformation and subconscious programming is a staple in Republican and conservative practices. Without an uneducated, uninformed support base, they have no legs to stand on as a political party. They are not representative of the people who vote for them at all. They only serve the interest of the wealthiest among us. If their voters were not actively brainwashed, they would come to realize this, and the Republican strategists know this. They use religion, general ignorance, and clever psychological tactics to sway public opinion.

You've got to hand it to them. They're brilliant at what they do, in that sense. Is it morally wrong? Yes...but it's still brilliant.

Deranged, no disrespect to you, but do you even know what this is all about? It's not just hip-hop being omitted from the textbooks, it's a right wing revisionism of many aspects. Not everybody takes the time to educate themselves, so what is taught in public schools is very important.

Now there's 10 Republicans (with 7 being FAR right wing) and only 5 Democrats on the board. Can you guess how the vote went? Yep, 10-5, in favor of the right wing amendments.

They are going to post the full list of amendments on their website (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/) by mid-April, but the changes that have been made public clearly reflect a plan to systematically breed a new generation of far right wing Republicans who are partial to white culture, ignorant of minorities, and strictly pro-Capitalistic.

Here's a partial list of some amendments:

- Include country music as an important cultural movement, while dropping hip-hop (racism)

- Despite Hispanics being one third of the Texas population, they want to purge their history from textbooks, removing people like Cesar Chavez. (racism again)

- Excluding Thomas Jefferson from the origins of the USA, replacing him with theologian John Calvin. This is because of a desire to pretend that the USA has Judeo-Christian beginnings, when in fact, it was mostly secular. Thomas Jefferson stressed separation of church and state and these Republicans hate that. (blatant revisionist history favoring Christianity over the truth)

- Changing terminology to reflect a positive light of conservative values. Changing words like "capitalism" to "free enterprise" because they think capitalism has negative connotations. Removing the wording "democratic" and putting in the word "republic" when referring to the nation (and obvious play on words based on the similarities to their respective parties). (Republican values)

and so on....everything is either racist, pro-Christian, or pro-Republican. It's attitudes like yours, Deranged, that allow people like this to do these things. This is what happens when you don't resist these conservatives and just shrug your shoulders. It's a very selfish mind state to have. I don't have to tell you how dangerous an ignorant population is.

Although, I agree that educating yourself is very important. I just strongly disagree with you on how important a public education is.

No disrespect on my end either, just a discussion(I know they can get heated, but my intensions aren't to offend anyone, but make them think), but I get exactly what's going on.

It went on in 1960 when we couldn't piss in a clean bathroom or ride the front of a bus. It went on in 1998 when they kicked my 3.2 GPA having azz out of high school because some kid got shot and they called it gang related and threw my entire block out over politics that didn't involve the school, but made the suburban kids parents think their children went to school with killers and criminals.

This is petty sh*t. Why you think I remember how long the chapter on Black History was and what it covered? Cause I already knew more. Don't blame the white men for all the blacks and hispanics who too stupid to research on their own. In the end, you need to know what a salad fork and fish knife is whether you use them or not, that don't mean others need to know how to clean chitlins and make enchaladas. Life ain't fair.

Money and power runs sh*t. And even the uppity people of color who get into position to change aren't putting their jobs and political appearance on the line over hip hop and Ceasar Chavez, I got enough sense not to even blame them.

Just funny people see Hip Hop that mainly sales to white kids being pushed out of a book as "racist". Old black folk don't advocate hip hop. Before the things they're doing makes me ask about their color, it would make me ask about their age. Just sayin....

I completely understand that compared to what they used to do this may seem trivial, but the motivations are the same. This is planting a seed that they wish to grow in the form of a new generation of kids. You have to nip it in the bud.

We have come this far because of progressive ideas. The conservatives have only held back progress.

This method these politicians use is analogous to this clip from Inconvenient Truth, except instead of changing temperatures, it's a slowly changing political landscape. If you make drastic changes against the instincts of the public and they will resist, but if you slowly chip away in ways that won't cause any substantial resistance, over time, you can get away with anything:

too many people are scared to really call shyt out.

fear don't = change.

and on top of that, too many people seem to think that things are just fine as they are...like they couldn't be A LOT better...so basically, they see no need for change.

smh.

can't say i'm surprised. What did you expect? the majority of my state voted for george bush

Turn the volume down cuz this is loud:

Listen to this piece of shyt Cynthia Dunbar twist this:

Country should be on there, so should hip hop.. But look at Hip Hop culture now, you really thinks its that great? Euro trance bubblegum music with skinny jeans and mowhawks. I got nothing against those guys I just don't like it personally and I don't think its a culture worth being apart of let along being taught in schools.

I agree & i wouldn't want that shyt being taught in schools eaither.

"It all started in Texas!" LOL!!

wow great video by theamazingatheist, alot of his vids are full of real talk.

it amazes me how depending on where you live, your education can give a very big impact on how you (possibly) see the world. what bothers me by this "issue" is since Texas buys such a large amount of textbooks, they may actually end up influencing the education of the rest of the nation. You would think that you pay taxes to get as much of an objective look at history/science as possible. the fact that there isnt a true national/non-partison approach to education curriculums by now is disappointing to me...

So basically, if the old people on the board are ignorant of something, it doesn't exist or isn't relevant. That is SAD.

That's an interesting video. Cuz it was 14 mins, I didn't watch it until now. Here's something you might enjoy:

Yeah it sad, but they aren't ignorant. They know exactly what they're doing. It's the kids that will wind up ignorant for at least the next 10 years.

Already answered why.

85% 0f people won't truly realize the "master plan" conspiracy until it affects them so personally, blatantly and undeniably, that it will be too late to address it then.

Some of us just ain't torn up because teaching starts at home. My 2 year old daughter already knows more "black history" than she'll learn in a classroom. Some folk don't rely on the gov't to do sh*t for them. I do feel bad for kids that won't learn sh*t anywhere but in a classroom or corner, but even if the ciricullum was there, they're the type that don't learn it anyway.

F**k a school book. lol. Anyone up here who really learned everything they know(even in academic feilds)in a classroom has never lived real life. Why would a new issue of book change that? When i was in school, they were just beginning the reteaching of how America was discovered and just beginning to say Columbus only touched outskirt american soil. And I was born 1979!!!

Don't be mad that some folk will be to dumb to research things for themselves.

85 never had a clue and 10 never gave a f**k. That don't make you 1 of the 5 just cause you aware of it. My entire life every incident that has occured has been a "sign of the times", f**k waitin for the end, I wasn't spozed to make it past 20 without being dead or in jail in this "great country", so I ain't wasting a second of the most precious gift you can have(life)dwelling on what ifs, maybes or might bes at the hands of folk who ain't worried about me, they bring it to my door, they get handled like anyone else dumb enough to bring it to my door, not putting hip hop in my kids books won't effect what they learn, because I'll be there to fill in anything left out or misinforming...just sayin.

yessir

there is a neverending struggle for race superiority..just like this neverending war or terrorism or war on drugs...directors of 'the master plan' are the same ppl that promote unnecessary wars, fighting losing battles that they never want to accept loss to,looking for any little thing to claim victory over..this is clearly not an issue over rich vs poor, clearly an issue of race..monetary value has taken over music esp rap b/c that what society has come to accept as successful, the more you have ,the bigger they are,the more you important you are over the next and ppl think b/c blacks got money now that that means anything substantial

let's take rap for instance..niggaz was getting rich just off record deals but for every dollar he made the label made 10,so it was ok to give him 5 mil cuz the label getting 50..now record labels aint getting any money so now they have to take everything thru 360 deals..just like a business owner;business is good, everybody getting fat bonuses, make my employees feel good, fuk it I'm having a good year..business is bad;ain't nobody getting shyt til I get mine..but mofos were ignorant to the fact cuz 5 mil is more than he or anybody he knows has ever dreamed of,so he's king of his own lil world..he now feels valuable..with his 5 mil...when the guy who signed that check could wipe his ass with it..hopefully he's one of those ppl that are glad for your 'success' and hope that he can sign more of those for you and that you manage you money correctly and can one day be wealthy like him cuz he knows that 5 mill aint shyt ..in his world.the same world you're tryna pretend you're in..with just 5 mill..hopefully he's not the type to not give a fuk what you do with your 5 mill..you could buy a 50 foot gold chain with a jesus piece that weigh 100 lbs for all he cares

so money means jack shyt when it comes to what is real value..morals has no pricetag..ethics has no pricetag...knowledge has no pricetag..respect has no pricetag but greed does and changing information in text books for no fukn reason other than animosity, grudgefulness or guilt,is clearly a greed for power.
