WTF! Texas Board Of Education Declare Hip Hop Is Not A Cultural Movement

Why should hip hop be included in school cirriculum? People rant for the f**k of it sometimes. No one who's really up on their hip hop, ethnic culture and history, religion, ect. learned it from a school issued book.

My History book in school had 1 2-3 page chapter on black history that covered everything from slavery to civil rights with Pics that took up most of the page. No Marcus Garvey, Nat Turner, Fredrick Douglas, Huey P, Dread Scott, Stokley Charmichael(sp), NO F**KING MALCOLM X!!!

Just Harriet Tubman, MLK, and JF Kennedy. I B.S. you not. I looked over it enough times to know I wasn't buggin.

We get bent out of shape about what ain't taught in schools, but it's a waste. We all know you need to learn to research for yourself.

I'm not shocked or even emotional that folk do exactly what's expected of them. Not even brow raising news. It's just life. F**k whining, count your blessings, we could be in a country where everyone huddles around a book from 1962 while tanks tread through the village. Instead we got folk who don't want their kids going to school learning about 2Pac and Biggie. Can't say they're "wrong" for that if they have no way of relating to 2Pac and Biggie.

I don't need my kids going to school learning about Dale Earnhardt and Billy Ray Cyrus, if I wrote the book, that sh*t would be left out, so I can understand exactly why sh*t they don't relate to would be.

Bigger shyt in life, you ain't on earth long enough to dwell on every petty thing that ain't made to cater to a culture that just b**ch, bet no one will even try to do anything about it. Everyone will just bych while the books are pressed and distributed. All we do is look at folk mean when they don't look like us and relate to us, but if they was some dude off the block, we'd take their head off over a $10 dice game.

Prioritizing......hmph.

is it not racist to omit certain facts?

Deranged, no disrespect to you, but do you even know what this is all about? It's not just hip-hop being omitted from the textbooks, it's a right wing revisionism of many aspects. Not everybody takes the time to educate themselves, so what is taught in public schools is very important.

Now there's 10 Republicans (with 7 being FAR right wing) and only 5 Democrats on the board. Can you guess how the vote went? Yep, 10-5, in favor of the right wing amendments.

They are going to post the full list of amendments on their website (http://www.tea.state.tx.us/) by mid-April, but the changes that have been made public clearly reflect a plan to systematically breed a new generation of far right wing Republicans who are partial to white culture, ignorant of minorities, and strictly pro-Capitalistic.

Here's a partial list of some amendments:

- Include country music as an important cultural movement, while dropping hip-hop (racism)

- Despite Hispanics being one third of the Texas population, they want to purge their history from textbooks, removing people like Cesar Chavez. (racism again)

- Excluding Thomas Jefferson from the origins of the USA, replacing him with theologian John Calvin. This is because of a desire to pretend that the USA has Judeo-Christian beginnings, when in fact, it was mostly secular. Thomas Jefferson stressed separation of church and state and these Republicans hate that. (blatant revisionist history favoring Christianity over the truth)

- Changing terminology to reflect a positive light of conservative values. Changing words like "capitalism" to "free enterprise" because they think capitalism has negative connotations. Removing the wording "democratic" and putting in the word "republic" when referring to the nation (and obvious play on words based on the similarities to their respective parties). (Republican values)

and so on....everything is either racist, pro-Christian, or pro-Republican. It's attitudes like yours, Deranged, that allow people like this to do these things. This is what happens when you don't resist these conservatives and just shrug your shoulders. It's a very selfish mind state to have. I don't have to tell you how dangerous an ignorant population is.

Although, I agree that educating yourself is very important. I just strongly disagree with you on how important a public education is.

Nat Tuner was the greatest insurrectionist ever!

Freedom NOW.

I dunno, when you look at the aftermath his people suffered because of his rebellion and none of them lived to see its benefits, his legacy has more importance than his actions really.

I mean if you look at revolts, like in Cuba, the French peasant revolts that spanned hundreds of years, Irish independence that lasted some 600 years and still to this day, the Jacobite Rebellions, the American Revolutionary War that actually in the end set in motion a war that would be fought across the world, all far more successful and significant to the people.

Not that I'm trying to belittle a great man, just he lost more than he gained. A truely great leader puts his people before himself.

I think people like Henry Garnet did a lot more, in the sense of starting a movement than he and others like him are given credit for, which is a shame. Anyone can kill a bunch of people and call it a rebellion but it takes something else to spark ideals in a mans mind and set generations on the right path, thats how you become free, integrity is sacred its the only thing ANY person has that can't be taken.

I went to the Saint Patricks day parade on Sunday, there was a banner with Obamas picture on it.. Kinda feels relevant.

I dunno, tis the ramblings of a drunk.. finna take my ass to bed.

How can you neglect to mention something that'd had such a huge impact on our culture though? I mean, it's everywhere. It was only 4 or 5 years ago there was a billboard of cam'ron and juelz in times square several stories tall.

You're right. I said what I said to get the dialog going.

No parent should depend whole heartily on the public school system.

It's a system to keep you deaf, dumb, and blind.

AND

To keep you loving the White Man for all his greatness...smh.

Every Black family should have

Historical and Cultural Atlas of African Americans

White families should have too.

You know what though...It can't be a Black vs White mentality. For a truly better world, promoting multiculturalism is crucial. In Canada, it's very important and is stressed by certain individual teachers & the media, yet the public school system curriculum is still mainly based on Judeo-Christian history. I didn't realize this until I got older, but they completely ignored everything that wasn't Judeo-Christian except the Greeks and the Egyptians. I would go home and ask my parents why things they were teaching me weren't taught in schools. The "educate yourself" mantra is all well and good, but is it not better to give everyone a well rounded education of the world? Would that not reduce racism and promote peace through understanding rather than hatred through fear (and fear through ignorance)?

The Government (name it "The US", "Japan" or "Germany") sets the restrictions for education. Education IS censorship.
You are being taught what you are allowed to know.
This was ALWAYS true, IS true AND WILL BE TRUE for the foreseeable future.

But lets be clear here: there IS a "consensus" on what should be taught and what SHOULDN'T be taught.
So for example math and physics are good, UNLESS you would like to teach (through math/physics) how to create H-bombs.

- Include country music as an important cultural movement, while dropping hip-hop (racism)

It'd be racist to exclude Techno as well, it having as much (if not more) influence on culture (GLOBAL culture that is) as Hip Hop.

- Excluding Thomas Jefferson from the origins of the USA, replacing him with theologian John Calvin. This is because of a desire to pretend that the USA has Judeo-Christian beginnings, when in fact, it was mostly secular. It was COMPLETELY secular. The Novo Ordum Seclorum refers to the New SECULAR Order of the world, not the New Divinely Inspired Dictatorship. Not all of those involved were Atheists, Agnostics or Deists, but most (if not all) were ANTI-religion.

Hence the SECULAR part.

People committed the same mistakes, politicians told us the same lies and the government oppressed as the same way any non-secular government would do, BUT taking away our freedoms takes longer that way and NO MATTER THE CRIME, nobody can claim that a ("holy") book, a ("holy") hallucination or a ("holy") person MADE them do it or COMMANDED them to do it and therefore freed them from any responsibility (regarding their actions).

It didn't take away some powers from God (if he exists), but it took away the power of the INTERPRETORS of said "law".

Now in Saudi Arabia when you...............

Although, I agree that educating yourself is very important. I just strongly disagree with you on how important a public education is.

A public education is meant to set some standards regarding the "standard level of Enlightenment" for the GENERAL public.
But just because this fails or doesn't work the way it SHOULD, doesn't in return mean that everything it does is wrong AND/OR (and that's my point) should be "corrected" by private education.

A (black/white) professor "home schooling" his/her kids can teach them BETTER math or english than the public education system, but that won't prevent them from becoming 1st Class Racists or accepting pre-selected "propaganda" as the New And Improved Truth.

F_or_Deaf, the majority of the politicians are white, so it's not simply a white vs non-white issue.

and who are the majority of the people that decide on what that "consensus" is?

white, or non-white people?

You answered your own question. The majority of those who DO DECIDE.

But you miss my point. The "consensus" refers to what should be taught as the STANDARD.

There are no Jewish or Afro-American Mathematics, there are no Polish Physics and there is no Hispanic Binary Code.
Information becomes Facts when a "consensus" is being reached and said Facts become Knowledge when a "consensus" is being reached on which Facts should become part of the Standard Knowledge Base.

So while one book may teach you that Copernicus was from Poland, another one may teach you that he was a German, while a third, correct one, will tell you that neither one of these countries existed at that time. Picking the "correct one" is highly subjective and requires ADDITIONAL knowledge.

Now when a book on astronomy mentions Keppler and Newton, but doesn't mention Galileo and Copernicus, it becomes CENSORSHIP THROUGH PROPAGANDA or propaganda using censorship as a tool.

In the big picture, there may a soft consensus on which subjects to teach, but these are not big picture amendments, they are tweaks to sub-consciously promote right wing values.

It'd be racist to exclude Techno as well, it having as much (if not more) influence on culture (GLOBAL culture that is) as Hip Hop.

Good point. Globally, that's true. As far America goes, not so much. I wouldn't think music is too big of a deal, but when they drop hip-hop (and make it an emphasis on their press release) then include country music, it becomes clear what the motives are, especially when looking at all the other amendments.

It was COMPLETELY secular. The Novo Ordum Seclorum refers to the New SECULAR Order of the world, not the New Divinely Inspired Dictatorship. Not all of those involved were Atheists, Agnostics or Deists, but most (if not all) were ANTI-religion.

Right, I said mostly because some of them were Deists. Even still, they were very clear about separation of church and state.

This is something that hasn't been respected. For example, in North Carolina, it's apparently illegal for an atheist to hold office. The Constitution over rides that though.

Also, powerful churches who are active politically (like the Evangelical mega churches who are Republican breeding grounds or the LDS in Utah) should be forced to pay taxes as they violate tax exempt laws. They are not only breaking tax laws but violating the "separation of church and state."

A public education is meant to set some standards regarding the "standard level of Enlightenment" for the GENERAL public.

Right, and that's why embracing multi-culturalism is important. We have done that in Canada (despite incidents which are, in the bigger picture, minor setbacks), but the USA seems to promote racism. **cough Lou Dobbs cough**

Bingo! That's what this is about. This is the type of thing happening in Texas.

I don't know about you but it's the ones that aren't in the hoods that you gotta worry about. At least w/ a Klansmen/Skin Head etc. you know their racist & they don't try to hide it. Even though it's ignorance i respect their opinion at least that much but it's these closet racists that are the most despicable b/c more often than not their the people in power.

oh yes

w/o a doubt

I was just saying how the two are one in the same but I don't think those suits in govt are undercover so to speak cuz they make moves like this everyday just on a smaller scale..it's those closet racists that walk among us everyday that we need to be watching for...and this is how I know racism exists in our govt cuz everything that happens in society happens in our govt as well..they really have it out for minorities esp blacks....either that and/or they're really full of themselves, have no shame and have a negative agenda

Country should be on there, so should hip hop.. But look at Hip Hop culture now, you really thinks its that great? Euro trance bubblegum music with skinny jeans and mowhawks. I got nothing against those guys I just don't like it personally and I don't think its a culture worth being apart of let along being taught in schools.

Why not teach it in schools? How come its not great? Its music that entertains, and its popular so whats wrong with it? Please dont state the stereotypes because all music, hip hop to country have plenty of them most genres more than hip hop.

Its not about hip hop culture being bad, or ****ed up, its about look at those dumb ass niggers makin an ass of themselves. JEALOUSY!!! Jealousy masked by the mindset that european culture and lifesyle is the way the world is suppose to operate.

All of Americas morals, ethics, and laws were set in stone by europeans and revised by their ancestors...just ranting!!!
