Who will still be making hits 10 years from now ???

I heard somewhere that the avg lifespan of a rap star is 2 years.....

i do agree you need to listen to what the track is telling you but somewhat disagree on the top equipment portion. i think you can achieve a good mix by testing on various systems from boomboxes, laptop speakers, subs in the trunk, no subs in the trunk, etc and compare with other songs. Peace

Just my opinions really i could be wrong and my one was just hip-hop but lady gaga, katy perry could probly go on for quite some time also beyonce and jay-z wouldnt surprise me if they brought out an album together. And like chris rock said if brittany spears brings out a great accoustic album or something she could probly be known as a real artist not just a pop wh*re who makes music for the label to make money not the fans !
 
Yeah, I can't say that I agree on the exact types of gear some people insist that we use. Many times I have heard crap coming from dudes with SSL desks and yet pure treasure coming out of studios with next to nothing gear wise. Each to his own, it's the ears that count, if you can fool enough people your doing shit right.
 
I'm pretty sure I read a Hip-Hop DX article a few months ago where Wayne said he was going to retire in like 5 years or something so fingers crossed... XD ha!

It's funny that you mention Rihanna. She is beautiful, but anyone that has an ear can hear see can NOT sing. I dare you to go see her live with no studio help! It's really sad too, I think she is adorable! She has the fans, but honestly the fans are the the least educated, when it comes to talent.
You can tell them a rock can sing and they'll believe you and go by some rocks! Over the years there have been a number of talentless artists that have achieved fame and fortune for there looks, gear, drama and anything else before actual talent...Milli Vanilli, Vanilla Ice etc. Hopefully, in ten years the world will revert back to talent first. We just need to get past this reality tv generation of fakeness and get back to realness! I can only hope!!!

Not only should you say... does anybody love real Hip Hop? ...Most of these jokers don't even know what real Hip Hop is.
If your starving and someone feeds you dog ish all day, after a month of that you'll think your eating filet mignon. You'll tell everyone you know that the dog ish that you're eating is the best but in reality you're EATING dog ish! So when someone feeds you real filet mignon, you probably won't like it. That's what Hip Hop is today to me! A bunch of Alpo and the filet mignon is now pushed down to the basement or undergroud or elsewhere in the world Europe, Asia etc.
 
I agree 10 yrs is a stretch but justin bieber has the talent 2 do it

What are hits? If you make a trash song, get the best marketing from your label and sell to millions of clueless fans that will buy anything...Is that what a hit is? The music industry is an absolute disgrace right now. I wish we had a talent meter that could tell us how hot a song was or how much talent an artist has...forget record sales, clothing, hot body and everything else superficial. If you could judge a music artist like you did an athlete, that would be great. Kobe can't fake being good! There's no auto tune in basketball! You can't fake a dunk! There's no airbrushing on the court! My point is, you can be phony and talentless as h3ll and still make it in music.

to answer your question simply hits are songs that are incredibly popular. My criteria for a hit is to at least make it into the top 40. And your problem with the a talent meter wouldn't work because different people find different things talented. Hell I find Kanye West to be a talented producer, while my mom finds him to be completely talentless.
 
i have never really mix and mastered anything...i have really only made just beats i have only recorded with just a laptop and a cheap computer mic, i know that thats not a very good start to producing music but its all i have right now and i have allways been told to do the best with what you have....so thats what i am doing. i never realy understood the whole mixing and mastering thing, but this thread has given me some insight to what i need to do. i will be lookin for more threads such as this.

10 years from now Wayne will be 3 years younger than Jay-Z is now.
