ACCESS + OWNERSHIP =
monopoly-guy.jpg

not really, I mean ownership of yourself. fvck access. Ownership of your music, ownership of your career, ownership of yourself. Access? Access is easy, it comes to you when you are prepared and making noise.

lol, not at all. I dunno how you get that impression. that's actually funny, because I have helped many NOT getting fvked.

I get along with people just fine. you would be surprised how many people like me sarcastic little self. but I don't get along with EVERY SINGLE MOFU. that's the difference between being real and acting ("riding dyck") to "get in". and it's not hard to find a way into the industry. it is hard to stay relevant though. lol

I had many mentors. I still have some. but there are two kinds of mentors: those who can show you how great they are and those who can help you find out if YOU are great or not. I had the luck to meet the latter category, exclusively.

btw, I know all of that shyt, but it has nothing to do with my post. you made a sarcastic post of mine sound like an EMO-clusterfvck. LOL

I have no problem doing what I want. I am definitely not dependent on industry money. and you wouldn't believe how little a person can be/has to be dependent on industry money. you don't speak to a person who has to get along with any mofu, no matter if he's cool or an a$$hole, JUST to get a check. and it's a great feeling.

people feel your vibe. and they feel when you are FAKE. they don't care if you are an Uncle Tom or the young rebelious "self-made superman". just because YOU are out here "doing business" or promoting yourself (intentionally or not), doesn't mean I have to. I am just the little music fan/beat maker in here. not riding dyck, not being a hater. just being me - and I'm not one-dimensional.

the internet is a medium. "it" can't win anything. the conglomerates/aggregating companies are still connected to the same couple of networks.
it doesn't matter if you call it "Label with hot artists" or "Hot FM Radio Station" or "Best Music Television" or "Most Popular Internet Website for Music Fans".

nothing changed. sure, Soulja Boy was an internet phenomenon (for one song), just as the Fat Boys in the 80s were the "Swatch Watch Guys with that commercial".

fragmentation? sure. more people coming "out of nowhere"? sure. major music players "dying"? no. the names will change. the medium will change. the formats change. the MONEY goes out and goes INTO the same pockets. THAT didn't change much.

and I've seen it and talked about it with some people years ago. living through the Napster and iTunes age and not seeing the change? impossible.
seeing Youtube and Myspace and "prophecizing" internet taking a more important role in the music industry? not hard.

but still, Walmart, Nike & McDonalds won't die out.

i think you misunderstood what I said and took it too personal, but if you think yesterdays practice of music business still applies to todays and the future music biz, your in deep trouble.... I can tell you right now the net is the main medium for people to make it big or be even bigger than the next man

its bigger than myspace which is not even relevant no more due to that market being over saturated...

btw alot of major super prodcers are losing they houses because they are not adjusting to the new factors which the up and coming producers are starting to make GWOP

Books: everything about the music business, everything. Books on just business. Books on strategy. Books on wars. books on relationships. Books on philosophy. Books on history. books on everything that might be useful. My favorite book is called "The Book of 5 rings" by Miyamoto Musashi. Books are not doctrine, take pieces from them and allow them to fit you.

OTHER PEOPLE: just simple observation. sometime questions. But watching people is the best thing. I study people, I really do. I read people. I can tell if some one is bullshting before they say a word. I watch their posture, eyes, hands, stance, lips. these things speak louder than their words, you just got to learn how to listen. learn form people at your level or one up. don't try to learn personally from some one way above you. one step at a time. also the music industry is just like high school. just like it.

BY DOING AND FAILING OR SUCCEEDING. make many mistakes when you are just starting, if you screw up you can't fall. but when you start to climb, falling can kill your career.

SCHOOL Workshops seminars, etc. anytime you are able to get near someone who is more experienced do it, learn from them. even if it is for a few hour.

Your normal life, I'm from chicago. i was homeless when i graduated high school. I learned how to hustle very well, very well. I later was in the army, I learn how to manipulate systems from them. Take what you learn in your life, and apply it to this

internet: I'm giving you advise right here, on the net.

awesome post man!

i swear that cats be missin out!!!

I don't want to talk much about this subject, because it might effect my money in the future.

but I'll say:

The net is the new cd, the new medium. it is the new revenue stream, one that will bring in more money than mechanical sales.

That is all I'm going to say about that. If you want more specific details about the net, you're going to have to pay me. after all i'm a consultant.

I agree that we both don't understand each other completely. I didn't say the "practice of music business still applies". I said that basically the rules of the game change over time (AND periodically) in a manner that can be used to predict a future change or the evolution itself.

its bigger than myspace which is not even relevant no more due to that market being over saturated...

oh. it's "not even relevant anymore". so what is TODAY? what will be TOMMOROW? the name changed "myspace", "youtube", "twitter", etc...

what else changed? that's my whole point. not much. big conglomerates are being formed between companies and at some point, even BIGGER companies eat them.

btw alot of major super prodcers are losing they houses because they are not adjusting to the new factors which the up and coming producers are starting to make GWOP

sure. and the musicians in the UK really wanted for samplers to be banned, because they feared they'd lose their jobs. what will happen to same musicians, when Melodyne DNA comes out? not much. you can buy the best string library out there, but that won't teach you how to play the violin. not much will change. there will be a couple who will profit from said technology.

you (correctly) see the internet bubble-disaster being repeated all over again........but now with the music biz (and its "working class").
the over-head that these producers created was counter-productive.
just like the CEOs thought back then - the income stream will never end. "this is the Golden Age and it won't end".
all of them make the same mistake. an evolution sometimes is followed by an revolution. even if some delay is being introduced. and I think the time for a musical revolution is near. it just didn't happen YET. and that's what most are thinking.

And the best thing about the net is that you can have multiple revenue streams from one medium.

There is a SHYTLOAD of money to be made from the internet, but people are stuck in the past and don't see that.

It's a blessing and a curse (but more of a blessing).

Lets have a toast to the internet.

most people here don't have a clue on what they are doing. they need to fall back and prepare. do your homework, learn the craft, the business and the game before you go to war.

yo...i gotta bring this one back up; it's epic...

my question is WHY don't people think it's important to be a student of the craft, business AND game BEFORE they "execute"???

why are so many people just "jumping in" without solid game plans and thorough research???

I agree with you and I know where you are coming from (and where you are going with your argument).

funny that you mention DangerMouse. I've been told recently by an MTV guy from Europe to check out that cool new album by "Minty Fresh Beats" mixing Radiohead with Jay Z's black album. you know where the "focus group" got that information from? MTV's website. so an FP member became "relevant" in Italy, Germany or the UK...........because a media conglomerate decided to "honour" his work.

feel me? most of us have the access to the technology to create a comparable product. I think we are over that point in the discussion. so what I'm asking is (see the "edit" in my last post). now that PEOPLE know how to produce and promote "for free"..........how did that affect the actual OUTPUT on the mainstream level? and we talk about "access" and "fragmentation" all the time. it just doesn't happen. there are more players on the field, yes, but there is still one ball and two baskets.

we don't have to go into the future and then back. we can project the outcome of former eras (of specific genres or music in general) on the New Media Order. and my scepticism (or rather, as you said, "being realistic") is coming from reviewing the past. there was Motown, Punk, Electro/Hip Hop and different "cultures" emerged from that. now there's Myspace, Youtube & Ustream. but what did REALLY change? and what do YOU think is about to change that will allow the "entry level" guys to play their game, like they were used to do: namely, out of the trunk and on the stage. because, if it could've been done, it would've been done. so some part of the equation is missing. and I'm sceptic, thinking again that it's either MONEY, or MTV around the world TELLING you to check out Minty Fresh's album.
NMO...lol That's almost scary...lol

I think the missing entity here is knowing the consumers habits now that the plan can be broken down to a sizable fraction.
I talk alot about self-promotion and stuff but it might be due to my ignorance of what happens once you reach a certain level of saturation. I can easily figure out though, that it's the same just with more opinions so if that's the case then let's say Joe Blow sells 30,000 independent and Sony comes knocking. There plan is to make you a internet star and avoid the mainstream saturation (cost) and they can test there online plan out. Now, you got this deal and the album doesn't meet expectations and your names tarnished for not reaching goals. Now you gotta fight that failure off, regain ground and push to the next level from where you were before you got signed. Who wants to be the test mouse for that cosmetic company to see if "hot single brown" makes the e-bytches go crazy off your stuff.
Everyone controls what they see and that's the feat that needs to be overcome. How do I make Susie the nurse care about this enuff to click on it while there at work on there iphone? How do you reach 100,000 (NEW) people a day to ensure that the 10% from that total number (which are the actualy buyers) is a big enuff number to go atleast gold? DIVERSIFY!!!!!!!!!!!!! If tyrese does another album it'll do better thanks to Transformers. If Drake wasn't on tv would he be as popular? Teen white girls recognized him the day he hit tv promoting his music...people forget that. Dude is diversifing to music from tv when others do it the otherway around. It's gotta be something that brings the masses to you from multiple outlets verse using the most popular producers with the most popular sound. That's getting old.
To do that from a low budget stand point it's gonna have to be something like... Youtube stuff like 50's Curly is a great way to mix music with visuals, Maybe even doing a video for every song on ur mixtapes and distributing the link for it to be downloaded... Everytime they play ur song...THEY SEE YOUR FACE... just some ideas to help explain my vision...
