Sup everyone! I have a question for you guys. When you have your setups in your homes, what do you do with them? Do you make mix tapes or practice for the club or record scratches? Ive always wondered about that? You guys have some serious gear... im jealous!

Dear Beefy,
Apparently you took offense to my question, or your just being an ass. I just wondered what people did with their setups. Im not a "real" dj, I just play songs you hear on the radio for drunk people for quick cash. I was wondering what you guys did with your home studios that dont appear to be portable. Im sorry if it was a dumb question, perhaps you could come down off your high horse and answer my ridiculous question.

Love, Rhyno

*Steps down from very very high Horse for Djing Gods* Jesus calm down. It was more of 2nd statement enforcing the fact I don't have my turntable setup rather than a dig at you. Stop flattering yourself!

But now you've mentioned it it was a slightly dumb question, what do you think we use them for?

In conclusion I rarely take offense to people's questions involving DJ equipment or infact Djing and as bad as it sounded I did answer your question, just not in the way you'd like to hear it.

In anticpation of your inevitable sarcastic love letter,

Love, Beefy.

I always thought of a DJ as someone that played music for an audience. But if you have $10,000 worth of equipment in your house, that doesn't appear to be portable, what is it used for? Is it to entertain quests? or do remixes? or mix tapes? or practice? or just for decoration? or what? I have no idea. I just was curious. Maybe theres something people are doin that i never thought of! But im sorry i asked. Ill just go back to the hip hop thread and debate whos better kanye west or the neptunes.

Well generally most Dj's wouldn't take their decks to a club if they were playing. Maybe to house parties and stuff yea but not to a club, setup provided usually comes in the deal when asked to play at a club, reputable ones at least. We have the decks at home in order to become a Dj. Or just to have a laugh with, I dont give a second thought as to how much I've spent on my setup it doesn't really matter, it's hobby I enjoy doing. For example I just bought a DJM 707 (which was supposed to arrive this morning but I was still in bed when he came!) but i've also got a water bill to pay of about the same amount the mixer cost was due this month. But it doesn't matter, Djing makes me happy, water just makes me clean..... and hydrated you can see the pro's well outweigh the cons.

i have a home setup and a travel setup (packing and unpacking day after days is tedious). beyond that, i do more work at home laying down cuts on songs, making mixtapes, practicing cuts/mixes, listening to music for my enjoyment.

there are different types of djs. not all djs are club djs.

When I made my non-portable home set-up, I was trying to model the booths that I was used to seeing when I played out. That way, I could get very comfortable at home with the gear so that when I play out there was much less confusion for me.

Now that there are several different popular mixers and CD players, I have given up for now and just learn a new one on the fly or rent it for a day or two...

Also, producing and mixing both relax me, and so I like to have exactly what I want in my home.

^^ Thats what I like to see. Total gear nerds!!!

That's not an insult by the way! Im a total gear-whore myself! Nothing turns me on like a sh!t load of power and audio cables, combined with an old dual casette deck! Old Skool! But then again it is in the same setup as a Dell laptop and G4. Controversial and not so old skool!

For a moment I thought you were cool man!!

But no seriously, nice setup....

I dont have anything for it yet, but it can hold up to 700 records, its
48 inches long (121 cm), 30.5 inches tall (77.5 cm), and 17.5 inches deep (44.5 cm).

But yours looks hella nice. Mine was just only $12, and about 2 hours of work. :)

By the way, is that a lamp on your records? That would seem like a great idea.
I hope thats not a Confederate flag hanging back there

I mean, if you have a problem with it, you can PM me privately and ask me there. Otherwise, its not your business, and this is the DJ Hardware forum, I dont think it should even be brought up. :)
