10 reasons you shouldn't get a job and do music

Nah, it was the topic of every other song I listened to at the time but they were saying it in a round about way... like that song No Hands...

I figured I'd just get to the point, lol.

I noticed that song titles normally piggy back each other. Like the hot topic of the month or something.

Kind of odd to me in a way. I'm not sure if it's on purpose or not. Like people call each other up and say "What are you writing about?...." and then they write something along the same line.

That part sounds like you're practicing to make excuses along your journey.

Don't discredit your music, it is what it is. Do you think saying that will affect whether somebody will buy it or not.

If you were selling a car and said "I just waxed it and shampooed the carpet.... but it don't run..." would make people have sympathy and still buy it from you.

You also didn't sound confident. You said you don't think you're too bad. That didn't sound courageous to me.

Here's what you do... you sell your music. Be the Sham-Wow guy about your music. Oxy Clean guy. Make people feel like it'll work. Don't make them start to second guess based off of your lack of confidence in your product.

Your statement sounded like you were bracing yourself for a bad critique or comments. Never worry about those. If everybody liked the same things... what kind of world would this be. Make your music and present it. If you're not proud of it, don't expect anybody else to be.

Do you know how many times I've been called wack on here, lol... and I post more music than almost anybody

Anybody else would've missed the point and called me names.

... of course that guy with the blog has a right to his opinion... but I bet that opinion got strengthened after his blog made him some money.

He's part of the reason infomercials exist.

You don't have to work... if you have something that's bringing you money outside of work.

You have to work... if you don't have something that's bringing you money outside of work.

Only two options available...

I'm in the latter situation...

Oh, there is another option.... don't work and don't have any money... forgot about that one.

Nobody on here is living off of beats. They may be sustaining themselves with beat money... but they aren't doing what "I" would call living.

I forgot that people on this site get excited over empty apartments that people share with other people, lol.

I'm not trying to diss anybody but there's more to life than hoping the beat fairy will leave placements under your pillow.

What did the late great James Brown say? "You don't work, you don't eat-tah..."

lol, I'm from the 90's rap / hip hop era... been in the Hip Hop scene for a minute... been on FP since 2003.... ask me how many "famous" people I know that did it through music.

I can only name about 5 that I THINK are doing it.

FP has 300,000+ members according to that stat counter... where are the famous former FP members?

Where are they?

Got on here, White Hot Pro inspired me waaay back when I was still trying to learn how to do this, he was down to earth and makin good bread off SC. Now here I am a few years later, the route I took is a lil different, (Alot of travel) but every project I make a few stacks, and im still making money on the internet. Im not rich or paid as a doctor or anything but Im living good doin somethin I love and my income is consistently on an up. But Its still 1000% more work than having a regular job for me, which is why Im getting my sites improved, cause I want more, 25/7 money

You also won't qualify for unemployment benefits... because you were never employed...
its sad that the world sees self employment that way but its true.

lmfao at the beat fairy. This all on point though. People don't get the whole sometimes you do things you don't want to to get to where you want to thing though. You can usually tell it to by the guys who are mad at someone else for getting it with what they call wack music. Cats think dope beats are gonna get you paid then get mad when they hear a nigga loop up Impeach the President talking about skills. Beat skills won't keep your lights on lol.

yeah Idk where keyboard kid came from he just popped up out of no where quite literally.

I just heard of him today. My wife bought home The Stranger for some reason... she said she didn't know that the back pages were filled with escorts...

Tone beat me to it. You only need a job until your dream starts to be a reality. When you can step away from the 9-5 that keeps the heat on... bounce.

I haven't heard Keyboard Kids music, guess I'll check it out now. It's good he was able to quit his job... but that was thanks to Lil B mostly.

This dude was able to quit his job! - WHAT! Keyboard Kid 206

... for some reason, his sound is AFTER Trap... I can see young kids messing with his style. Kids my sons age, kids that aren't really club going age yet. He NEXT!

I'm still gonna make this though...

I heard about him late last year and I am surprised. I heard about him from local artists. i actually didn't know he produced for Lil B until like last week. I was wondering why he was not really popping in Seattle and he is from Seattle and now working with arguably one of the most popular indie artists in the world today. That's crazy to me because 2 years ago nobody I know was talking about this guy.

I wonder who's going to mess with him outside of Lil B though.

His sound is "unique"...

Be real yo! You have to find balance between the two. Would I rather do music and not work? DAMN RIGHT I WOULD! But hey, "been there, done that" and bills were still piling up on me. Unless music is bringing in $10g's a month to pay bills and take care of my family I'll continue to work until I'm making that kind of scratch.

All of these things on the list can also be said about being a musician. Whoever thought that only emplyess are "pets" are wrong. Anyone with a little knowledge would know that the labels run the artists like ANIMALS.

I just read the OP's initial post, and it's funny because each and every one of these points is what I have noticed. Now the only problem is to execute on the idea of creating a business. That's tough. But all these points are actually exactly my thoughts.
Also, you have to create a viable business so making something related to music, that's only if you see any potential in music for income generation. You could of course license tracks but it generally takes a long time to have a big enough library that you can live solely on it. But if you start now, in ten years, you might not have to work..
