Hi Guy and Kyle,
Thanks for the mic tips.Kyle how many mics did you use on the
kit?
I suppose it's trial and error but any tips are useful!

another question. In the mixdown/mastering sections you've got many settings to choose from which mastering effect did you use ?
regards Fritz

live set up

We had the band set up in 1 room. I used 1 mic in the kick drum one on a mic stand between the snare and hi-hat and one hanging over the toms to pick up ride and crash also. then I had one in ft of the Guitar amp and also one in ft of the bass. Then I used a SM58 and ran vocals into channel 6. I used patch cables to the PA and turned Channel 6 output up so the vocals could be heard. I ended up with a good amount of Isolation on the different mics.
Cheers,
Kyle

Fritz and Kyle! This is a cool forum. I was up late the last two nights playing with my Zoom. My question for Kyle is- were you able to assign seperate effects to each mic? I am breaking ground almost every day but I still want to jump ahead and have fun. If I assign an effect such as bright to my guitar, I hear the same effect through the mic and visa versa. I would like to hear
the cool mic effects and the amp modeling at the same time while playing live .

cheers kyle for the tips.I'm going in on friday night with the rhythm section ..see what transpires!! went to a gig tonite skin{of skunkanancie fame) rocking!! I'll keep you posted regards F.

Last night I was burning a CD and the studio froze up. Not one
button would cause a response so I tried shuting off the power several times and the panel stayed lit even though it was off. I freaked!! I put the backup disc in and unplugged it from the wall.
That made it shut down so I plugged it back in and turned it on and everything was okay after that. I was afraid I was going to lose all my work by unplugging it but everything was okay, I just had to remove the system disc without retrieving data. The first time I put that syatem disc in to see what was on it and left it in when I shut it down. When I booted back up the next day it asked if I wanted to retrieve data and I thought of course I do so I said yes and I lost all my work.

i have had the zoom now for 2 mths and i really like it... i am used to using pro tools but this unit is very user friendly in my opinion.. the only thing i used it for though is to track to when i want to make a quick demo...editing on it i think is a bi***...
i do have a question thoug.. does anyone know how to slave it to an mpc or triton via midi... i can run the 1266 as a master and slave the trtion and mpc to it, but am having no luck slaving it to the mpc at all.. the mpc is the workhorse in my setup.. i prefer using it as a sequencer over any other piece of gear i own...but in the midi menu i dont see any thing that allows for the 1266 to receive midi time code or midi beat clock.. i only see that it can send it out....please help if anyone knowws the answer to this question..

I agree it is user friendly. I don't have a whole lot of time to play with it because I have a full time job , I commute 2 hours a day and own a house. I'm lucky right now that my wife and daughter are not staying with me for a couple of months so I at least get some time to concentrate on it. Every time I use it it gets easier to use.

wotcha kem,guy&Lyle.
i'm very happy with recording the live rythm section tonite, such a clear sound but I know I've only just touched the tip of it so far.I'm new to the whole digital process and hope to learn quick!

can anyone help me?
I've got the backing tracks so now I want to add effects etc. What do I do?

We had a giant bifter afterwards so I'm a bit mashed...

easy now sire fritz

I am at the same stage. I haven't figured out the insert effect yet.
I played around and assigned it once but I don't really understand what I did.

Fritz, what is your position with the group? Do you play an insrument and try recording too or are you a soundman? I am just a guitarist doing this at home in my spare time and I love it!
This thing is so exciting every step of the way. I did a hip hop
track this weekend and blended it with crunch metal. It sounded a little in the vein of Buckethead. A couple of riffs just came out of nowhere and I couldn't believe it was me when I played it back
the next day. I can play a little bass and keys for accompanyment
too.

Hi Guy,
been having a goold old go on the old bugger, sussed out a few things using different mastering effects, really expand it out.

Having trouble inserting effects?
I f you've used 6 trak rec make sure you switch it off when wanting to apply effects.
when using effects make sure your,e on the right track use the curser (or is the jog wheel........) thewn go into your effects.exit get you out of it and most things!

you may have sussed this out already by die bye!

effects.....

Hey, The only way I have figured out how to apply an effect to a single track is to set it up and then bounce it (re-record it) to an open track. any other ways, that any one knows about?
Cheers,
Kyle

This is helpful. Maybe I haven't figured it out because I'm not ready for everything all at once. Last night I recorded an Edgar Winter tune from a CD and then burned it with some of my own
songs for a friend. I am going to start working on phrase looping this weekend because I have some material to chop.:D

Hi guy and Kyle,
Been away in Arran (scotland) so haven't been pressing on.
I did have a go briefly with the phrase looping but couldn't get the sample in time!!

When I get a CD bURNER ,which one do you use? I hope to exportparts then put in them in sound forge then import them back......
for your interest I'm a guitarist/vocalist with a band called soul immigrants(put the name in google or what ever we're on quite a few websites.....
hope to be working with a rapper this weekend ...
good luck with the loopingjavascript:smilie(':bat:')

Well, I have been taking an creativity break for a couple weeks and last night I came back to play and figured out how to use the insert effects. It's not so hard. I have yet to start phrase looping. Is it just as easy? I have some raw stuff that I would like to clean up and make phrases out of and learn how to piece them together IN TIME:victory:

One thing I discovered last night was setting the guitar to echo and panning hard right. The echo came out on the left channel
and I have a lot of separation between my speakers so it blew me away hearing my guitar on one side of the house and the echo on the other side of the house!

phras looping

I've been doing some, Its a little confusing at first, but go right by the manual and you will get it no problem. I actually took a U2 song off of a greatest hits album and started making loops from that.
Cheers,
Kyle
P.S. Fritz, Checked out Soul Immigrants, Pretty cool stuff.

Zoom 1266

I had my 1266 for just 4 weeks when the hard disk packed in! It's currently off getting a new one fitted from the manufacturer so hopefully I'll be back recording by the end of the week. Yeah, it's a bummer but it's such a great bit of kit that I wouldn't let my experience put you off buying one. Sound Control have lent me a 1044 in the meantime which will pass the time till the 1266 comes back from its travels, but unfortunately I had no backup of the songs i'd recorded on my one when the disk failed so I'll be fitting a burner a.s.a.p.
