Someone asked me this the other day, and I told them the same thing. This update doesn't give Reason features that can't already be done in Live, except for Neptune. I'm looking at it like this, for $150 I will get Record and keep my version of Reason current. It's a lot more bang for your buck than buying Record alone.

That someone was me! That KB causing memory loss?? HAHA...

No I hear you, it is a good deal price-wise, but personally I've never used Record at all (again, why would I? Ableton Live.). I guess for someone like me this update comes down to do I have a reason (another pun! Ha-ha!) to pay $150 for pitch correction?

Probably not.

Good point.

that building of instruments in Reason is a workflow killer...

Not, if you're a synth guy, coz I even do this in Cubase and in Ableton Live since I don't use presets. Building, crafting, molding, layering, and fine-tuning will always be there, especially if you make electronic music.

here how it goes if your comfortable using your daw and your workflow if fine why come into a thread where its all about reason and record. obviously you have a daw with vst capabilities, midi out, audio recording 3rd party plugin support why constantly come into a thread where people say "well it wont fit into my workflow" so move on all these negative comments towards software you not going to purchase is points less you dont see jumping into thread about this or that vst or 3rd party plugin if i dont i like it i dont use it that simple.

its a workflow killer for you and to me all the devices that were updates to me its not playing catch up. maybe for you but not for me. i was doing pretty much all the stuff that most of cats were doing in othe daws with reason alone. im not even going to go into what im doing with record. i prefer to create my own sound instead running through a bunch presets. pretty much my clients keep coming back. they say i have a very unique sound thats not like most beatmakers. most people ask where i get my sounds from i tell them i make sounds. im sure about you but most real produders not beatmakers love to tweak that the whole point of being creative and not rely on a preset to make you creative.

just curious...

how much tweaking can you do to a piano, electric piano, strings, french horn, tuba, oboe, flute, clavinet, bass (maybe some), etc...

the main 5 features that Prop presented are in other DAWs in some sense. that sounds like catch up to me.

i am not knocking your sound design skills but on the other hand how could you knock vsti?

it is a two way street...

if i had my choice of who i wanted to design sounds for me between you and eric persing from spectrasonics i would pick eric...

that is why i use vsti because individuals like eric persing has a track record in creating sounds...

there is something more to it than presets...

p.s. you have to know the vsti too. it took me about 15 months to truely understand omnisphere and the sound library...

^^^ agree, i feel the same way if your a drum guy or a instrument guy to begin with.

i know vsts i've been sound designing in reason for at least 7 years now. so i can make whatever sound i choose. i have 100 gb worth of refills sometimes i get in the mood where i dont want to make soudns i have a unlimted sound bank pretty much to choose from plus i like combining sound from different refills to create my own sound alot of those thing cant be done with vsts alone. i can do all of this in reason. with verison 5 i can do. more. number lets get this clear reason is not a daw. never was stop trying to make it one. and i know how sound design very well.

KB owns reason 4 already but do not own Record....

for $169 you get Record and the Reason 5 update...

the Reason 5 update cost $129 by itself...

Where are you getting your prices from? Is that what the price will be after they are released?

Because you can get Record for Reason owners for $150 right now, and like I said before, Record 1.5 and Reason 5 are free when they get updated.

Nevermind. I see it.

i agree...

i let the vsti developer handle the sound design thing/being a synth guy...

i like focusing on the song writing aspects...

why try to reinvent the wheel...

someone design the sound already...

my job is to use it...

I disagree. I like designing sounds too. What I don't understand is why limit your sound design to just Reason, or just vst's?????

Why not layer them both?????:):)

because alot of those sounds are there to show you what you can do with the devices that are in front you. with your statment you pretty much let me know your a preset user. im into writing songs arranging and mixing. so you mean to tell that if you looking for a new sound you rather go look for new vst or preset somewhere else rather than create your own sound. do you realize that alot music probably majority of music is tweaked to a desired sound.

I know... I don't really NEED any more presets... but I'm just looking for a reason (pun! HA-ha!) to upgrade from 4, and they just aren't giving me one.

I sequence totally in Ableton Live. I only use Reason as a sound module. All of these updates are either updates to a sequencer I don't use, or things that Live can already do.

I love Reason, and I really want to be excited about this, but they just aren't giving me anything here.
i dont think their target audience is rewire users though. They are really targeting the hardcore Reason users who want this update. This update is more about giving people who use Reason standalone or want to something to rejoice about. If you want more sounds why even bother with Reason if you have Live just grab a vst

Record 1.5 does not work w Reason 4 and Reason 5 will not work with Record 1.0

i have own Reason since version one too and know what is available in Reason...

i have looked under the hood of different types of combinator too..

grab a 6:2 mixer add a few sound devices with efx inserted and play with the the envolopes and filters. there is also a send on the 6:2 mixer.

if i spend time at it i could create sounds too...

what is the big deal?
