I still REALLY don't understand how the south is running things when 50 Cent and Jay-Z pretty much outsell singularly 90% of those southern artists COMBINED.

outside of Fif and Jay what do you have?

yall stilll missin the point this is not a north south east west thing its the industry controllin music...every variation of no mainstream rap is reall hip hop it dosent become rap until the donald trump look alike gets involved its not one persons fault that people think rap is dyin its americans greed for money thats killin it..... a corperate mind thinks like this wat ever is makin them the most money they're goin to grab it and run wit it until it stops makin the money or when somthin better comes around....but we shouldnt feel as bad as we do...other genres have been goin threw the same thing, i got some punk rock friends(lol Shout out to Angered Minds) that come to the studio i do my mastering at and they hate the way radio and tv is portraying rock. so its not jus hip hops problem

Frustrated Urban music listeners IN GENERAL have a strange issue in thinking that they have the only music that is misrepresented in the mainstream media.

Dude above me is right, everybody is waking up to this corporate monster that is pulling our favorite artists like puppets. I don't feel bad for listeners who might not like the candy-coated rap and soul less rnb with no change ups or breakdowns.

I feel bad for the artists who are extremely creative souls who have to 'dumb down' their music for their job's sake.

Every one from Jay-Z to Camron have done it. And admitted it.

Sad.

why is the south thinking that when people say "hip hop is dead" its referring to them? it's dead everywhere. east coast, west coast, midwest and the south. everywhere.

if you think someone is talking about you... it's probably because you're thinking the same thing too.

AGREED !! He said hip hop is dead not the south killed hip hop. Hiphop is more than just the south. Its the north..its the west...its the midwest etc....

To me all these artist coming out and takin offense just makes them look guilty. I have the utmost respect for Luda..but like I said the hiphop is greater than just the south. JMO

I'm out tha South (Houston to be exact). Now we all have pride for our regions. Like I'm proud the South has gotten its recognition nationwide. But we cannot let pride cloud our judgement on music. And it all depends on what hip hop means to us. Hip hop has grown to include wide ranges of musical art. From the happy pop dance music of Laffy Taffy to the deep grimey tunes of Scarface, DMX, Cube. All coasts and regions have put out the same type of music with their spin on it. Laffy Taffy out the south is just like Chicken noodle soup from the east. Not really saying much but it does what it does. I admit it has gotten commercialized but what the hell you expect. Every rapper does it for money otherwise you'd be content giving away free cds for the rest of your life. Now its not to say they dont want to get their message across, some want to do it more than others. Hip hop does different things for different people that's why Laffy Taffy is tyte to some and sorry to others. I'm picking on Laffy Taffy b/c I really didnt like the song but it gets you dancing moving. There is something about that makes a person move. Music is music the soul is the soul and Hip Hop is hiphop. It could never die b/c its from the soul for the soul. Something to uplift your spirit, make you cry, make you think, make you laugh, it evokes emotion of all kinds. If people are buying it bobbing their head to it, dancing to it, thinking about its lyrics, its beat its hook. Then hip hop is well alive. No matter who thinks they dominate. The south has many hardcore grimy rappers the same as the east and the west. Dance songs are being made all over the region. And its only a matter of time before international flavor come to us and makes an impact like the NBA. HipHop is alive to some dead to others. Its just an opinion based on what you like and what hip hop means. Hip Hop is music and music will never die.

UR WACK

i put dipset (NY) in the same category as a lot of snap music.. now personally i dont believe their message is one i want to hear and neither is D4L's (ATL).. (doesnt mean other people don't want to hear it.. cuz they obviously do)

the mainstream is called the mainstream.. cuz thats what it is.. be an individual listen to what you like.. and stop worryin bout everybody else's record sales

Yeah. Even Nas said "I can't sound smart cos y'all would run away" on the newest one..
And he doesn't sound smart. Some of his lines are ****ing retarded, and what's up with the dumb repetitions of stupid lines..

^^ My sentiments exactly..

The southern rappers don't get it. As a WHOLE, Hip Hop Is Dead!!

Lyrical ability is something that is sorely missing. Although a lot of southern artists suck at lyrics, "Chicken Noodle Soup" is from a Harlem group, Jibbs is from some midwest town and Juelz Santana is just as wack as Young Joc. It sucks from all angles.

More reasons why HHID??

1) Talent is forsaken for the quick buck and a "radio single"

2) Cookie cutter song formats/radio programming/marketing & promotion are ruining the industry (J.B. R.I.P. was not worried about radio play when he made Say It Loud - Black & Proud, it's what he felt & recorded)

3) "Not everybody can be a rapper" (Taken from Raekwon in Black & White)

4) Music artist have too many outside options/distractions instead of focusing their energy on CREATING MUSIC (not clothes/alcohol & sports drinks/DVD/sneakers/etc)

5) The fans are willing to except anything. Back in the days if you was wack or frontin', you were wack/frontin' & nobody phuckked wit' you and you was outta here (PM Dawn, Vanilla Ice, etc).

6) & most important....THE OTHER ELEMENTS OF HIP HOP (DEEJAYING/GRAFFITI/BREAKING) WERE ALL BASTARDIZED BY THE INDUSTRY!!!

Have a nice day

the story i posted is jus explaining how two southern artist think (even though they not the best out of the south thats between T.I. and Lil Wayne)

total bull**** ^^^ oukast are the best from the south, how many albums have they come out and had success..when hip hop *regardless of coast/area* was selling, as a matter a fact outkast was selling when south music was looked down upon in the *east & west* fued of the '90s...TI i'll give it up to him i have much respect for him as an artist and I think he is a good rapper, just like ludacris and some other artists, BUT to say lil wayne is good or on the level of TI is a slap in the face...lil wayne was been ghostwrited by Gillie Da Kid, he "dissed" gillie after gillie told someone about him ghostwriting...notice from the 90's to the 00's his style changed from "real south" to gangsta new york sound with a south flow...lil wayne also is perceiving this gangsta image when he didnt have as many tatoos as he did in the 90's...*there are some kids that are real "GANGBANGERS" that have tatoos at young ages ?? what does that say about him ?? prolly that his "fake" image is the reason why alot of the artists left baby and his ass in the dust...the only thing he has goin for him is his name is already out there....

its not the south like someone said its the lack of creativity and lyrcicism that died...

well i would explain some gang **** to u but you prollly wouldn understand and hell niggas get tattoos everyday in fact ima get one this weekend and me sayin that i think ti and wayne are the best out of the south is my personal opinion so dont start poppin off cause i kno u dont wanna see me in a battle lol

nah explain to me, trust me i know alot about gangbangin ****, umm a battle..**** ***** wassup lets do it e-gangsta style with a strawberry picking dance....

*puts left foot in and takes left foot out, puts left foot in a shakes it all about, stops takes a rest, looks around grabs a snickers and resumes dancing*

Saying that it's dead is talkin more about the state that it's in - as long as people want music and there is a "machine" puttin it out... then somebody is going to be number one -

just cuz you can dance to a song doesnt mean that it has substance... and these days it seems (the stuff played on the radio and on t.v. 24/7) has no substance -

an ok beat, and someone speaking to (half the time not even rhyming or making sense) a beat... no substance - what are these "artist" talkin about in these songs - listen to some of the lyrics (if you can understand anything said) and you'll see what i mean.

When you turn on the radio and chain hang low (a childrens medly), people rappin about Vans sneakers, how many cars you got, the ice in your grill.... when you turn on the American Music awards and you got Akon on the stage with some strippers....
Btw take a look at Billboard hot 100 right now AKON - i wanna love you and Smack that are number 2 and 3

Jay-z and Nas got it right ---- hip-hop is in a state of emergency.

yea i know what you mean anomoly, and the thing that kills me is that there like "you know i do it for the hood or where im from" where im from we dont have chains hangin real low, cant afford em, we dont have iced out grills we cant afford em, we do got white gold (zirconia if your lucky) lol but i mean it seems like they aint speakin what hip hop was about which was struggle and how to over come it or celebrating you over came it...iono it just seems like no matter the state of hip hop someone is always there to defend it...

I got a response foreveryone of you MF'N hip hop is dead threaders.

You people kill me. Just because you don't "get" a certain style of music it has no substance? Hip is now and has largely been about the current trends and the slang. So when you hear Vans you are hearing the style of Bay of those dudes from there city. There is substance right there. Just cause you don't like it doesn't make it any less Hip Hop. I remember when Run DMC did song about sneakers and it was live. It was what they were about. It's not just these days. The radio has always been about playing easily digestable music that people can have fun too. Where have you ben?

For the record I like many different styles of music. I like Nas and Jay. But i see right through there little fascade. Jay is about the money not the art. He's on the record as saying that Outkast is wack. It's his opinion and it doesn't count for any more than mine or anybody elses.

^^^READ MY POST playa -.... i never said i thought that HipHop is dead - I said that it's in a state of emergency as in not in good condition.
and it has nothing to do with me not "gettin certain styles of music" i lived in the bay for about 5 years - also lived in the midwest all the way to FL - i been all over the states and listen to all kinds of music....

the problem that i have is that these young kids grown up listenin to hip hop the way it is now is going to be the next ones buildin on the genre and if all they see is how much money i got and nusery rhymes and ABC's then that's all they're going to be making....
hiphop WILL be dead if changes are not made.

i love hip hop hit it right on the head. i agree with nas i felt hip hop was dying when cash money first came out. if people listen to what nas was saying he not saying hip hop is dead bcus of the south. i think they feel that way bcus some of the artist from there are putting out BS. It went from just making good music to people gotta have street cred or have some type of background story for the labels to promote or have a dance with ur song to get on the radio. guys like luda and outkast shouldnt feel disrespect at all the music they bring to the table has never been a problem. it should be guys like D4L. music sucks and it not just the south it everywhere. ive seen guys that do good music stop doing what they do and look only for a hit single they can get played on the radio.

we still got all this talkin and ish nobody is tryin to make plans to save it lets start a organization techno dnB and electronica have the Ministry of Music we should come up with somthin like that similar for hip-hop
