How's it going my fellow producers??? Well, the album: Futuresex/Lovesounds is a milestone in itself, productionwise.. The amazing samples, the use of (or lack of) instruments and the amazing arrangement.. The same general compositional patterns presented very differently through its unique instrumentation and sounds thats bring a fresh feeling to the ear!!

Although many here like the older album ('Justified') better, but nobody can deny that this album is very unique in its sound, courtesy: Timbaland and Danja..

Now lets come to the point of this thread: 'My Love'

What is the starting synth intro?? I mean whats going on in that?? Whats the weird patch and how is it being used?? I'M SO CONFUSED?? I read in some article that Danja came up with that. I also know that the duo hardly use any midi for their synths. I've heard they've got their arsenal of synths...

Please give your thoughts and info

made this in 5 minutes.
vanguard stock preset Synastasia, open up the filter all the way turn on the gate. and drums i picked out in like 2 seconds.

I played it.. It's eminor, bminor, bminor, aminor are the chords... i held down the chord with my left pinky on the root note and my left thumb on it then i played the next two notes in the chord past where my thumb was on my right hand... simple chord's and methods of playing them.. basically the same way to play jt's cry me a river intro..

The next timbo!!!!! LOL funny how "cutting edge" sounds can be reproduced by someone with talent. I applaud you sir.
 
if u want recreate that gate effect on other vst get killergate+ and use it as an effect on your leads, pads, w/e

For an example... Listen to 50 Cent's "Ayo Technology" Featuring Justin Timberlake!

And hey.. I'm bein' serious about dat.. Jus' pay attention and you guys will know whut I'm talkin' about!
 
You can use a SID emulator VST to get those old game sounds. They ain't all sampled.
 
I think it's somewhat alarming how young (possibly up-and-coming) producers look at Timbaland - he's been labeled as "innovative" for long enough for the newcomers to look at the "innovations" for no further than - well - Timbaland himself. I do give him credit for impeccable timing in bringing things forward, but other than that, he's mostly repeating things from enough in the marginal not to reach the ears of the mainstream listener. Now, I wouldn't really even care much if he were even somewhat honest about it - but denying the sources and calling himself "too innovative" makes it all a bit too dubious.

Bottom line? Great producer if he only were to give credit when credit is due.
 
Yea it's just a Trance Gate...Made the same thing in Vanguard.

european electronic musicians (do it - nelly furtado), indian and arabic music (big pimpin' - jay-z, get ur freak on - missy, indian flute - timbaland & magoo), techno/trance (my love - justin timberlake), computer games.

sounds like timbo doesnt limit his influences in anyway. the man sampled a baby crying for one song!!

people cant deny that the man is a genius, but saying that timbaland does what countless hip hop producers have done before him; sample! but like krushing said, he needs to give credit where credit is due. or else he'll get sued like he did with the nelly furtado song.
 
I simply think it's a bit alarming when people's knowledge about the history of sampling is limited to "Timbo is a genius" and "someone invented it in the 80's".
 
yup its pretty sad..

nd it sucks now cause everytime u use synths nd a strange percussion instrument people always say "dat sounds like some timbo ****"

most of the time is because they are trying to sound like him or the neptunes .

they might not mean it in the term smart

but in displaying originality, creativity, and the ability to think and work in areas not previously explored.

most people who sample in hiphop just stick to soul records from the 70's


while he will sample any sound he likes and from new song to bollywood movies

Well that's exactly it - you don't even have to step very far into a bit more experimental electronic or other styles of music to find out people have been sampling the sh*t out of everything - and going much further and more obscure - for ages before Timbaland came along. He has the talent of putting things together nicely but "originality" and "areas not previously explored"? Wouldn't say so.

The biggest thing that attracts me to Timbaland is his drum sounds.. They're all very fat and round.. There's not much difference in the Kick and Snare- tone wise...

Can anybody highlight how it can be achieved in Reason??

eq comprssion effects etc and good clean sampling from the outset
