sheesh this is a lot ... need to step it up

I dont know anything amout midi

Thout shall produce other peoples music as soon as good enough. There is no faster way of learning than when you teach or do for others because your neck is on the line!

Beware of False Prophets

  • Learn about midi
  • Read thy manuals
  • Learn about cables
  • Research thy gear before buying
  • Practice thy craft
  • Resist the urge to buy on impulse
  • Beware of false prophets
  • Continually seek knowledge
  • Protect thy ears
  • Remain humble

These commandments are right on point. I've been producing music for over ten years and still check back on these guidelines from time to time, just like my bible. The following is the commandment of the day.

Beware of false prophets
False prophets are everywhere, especially online, and they can hold you back forever with their false prophecies. The music business is full of people who want to experience general acceptance from like minded people around the world. Believe it or not, the evil people in the business eek to exploit this characteristic that most of us seem to have. Some of these vampires promise the world delivered to you on a platter, while others are simply use their status to lure you in. Just because somebody has worked with Lil Wayne, Lady Gaga, etc. doesn't mean they are going to work with you; even if they promise to do so. Of coarse, I say that assuming they're telling the truth in the first place. Remember, this business is filled with broken promises and worse. Take full responsibility for your creating, marketing, and selling your music before seeking help from others.

Avoid these False Prophets by running your own business, researching the people you bring on, and protecting your music rights.

Yes. You really go novice, want it and stop lookin someone to hold your hand. Go to the end of the earth, and to use logic and common sense, it requires us to find the answer. There are a lot of online research tools. One major reason is the Google search bar. Use, you can even learn something to teach the old heads. Guys like Krushing, Mano, LevLove and other insightful regulars, this site still has a lot to learn, it is difficult to grow here, they must remain on a remedy to stop giving tutorials, is common sense.

Great tips here! Things everyone should learn and live by!

Yeah, but you can only choose who you work with if you own your own business. If you still work for someone else you might have to work with some people who you'd rather not work with..

One more thing though (Which will probably have been mentioned before, but i'm to lazy to read all 76 pages...) If you're to lazy to read the manuals, or have lost it, please use google, youtube or the search option on this site. Chances are somebody else already covered the topic in great detail!

All producers should look at themselves as business owners. Save the BS for your 9-5, and even then, keep it at a distance.
