How old are u cuz if you not 70 you still have a lot of potential left to be tapped into and even if were a 70-year-old man on a forum if your anything like me you'll still be growing in you craft at the age. You will forever learn and grow I've been making music for only two years and in that time I've contemplated quiting maybe 50 times on some real **** and now that thing are coming into motion I'm glad I stuck wit it but the difference I think between me and you is I had people who really supported me and picked me up when I was down what I say to you is if you don't have that you gotta be that for yourself so what I say to you is keep going you got to keep grinding because setting due dates to quit is like setting dates to fail success and all the grandure that comes with it comes when it wants to not when you decide to or want it to.... You gotta set realistic and baby steps goals for yourself and rejoice in the journey and not the destination. I'm not even gonna look at the site cuz thats not what you need... reevaluate what music means to you and act accordingly I bet that due date will dissappear... Hope to see u at the grammy's my G!!! and best of luck

20+ pages and the site goes up at the end of june or beginning of july?

troup marketing 101,

yall fall for it everytime

i normally don't phuck with these threads, but i'm bored so...

1. Success is subjective. When you base your success off another person's success you automatically fail. Everybody is unique and so is their situation, therefore your idea of success should be different. If you can't grasp that concept, you probably suck at life.

2. There are a lot of new ways to make money in the music business b/c the old model is on it's last leg. I don't even worry about producing artists any more b/c I rather continue to place shyt on video games, tv and the web b/c there will ALWAYS be a need for that.

To Troup: Just keep pushing, every time I get to the point where I feel like quitting, like really really quitting I am always on the verge of a MAJOR breakthrough, and sure enough every time my game elevated to a new level, with more opportunities on the other end.

The opportunities that I've been presented with have all come with the requirement of signing a publishing agreement with that individual.

I'm just speaking of my personal experiences. Those are opportunities that I have made the choice to not pursue, because they are in direct conflict with my goals and priorities.

An artist was interested in a track, then a middleman renegged the deal cus you didnt want to sign a publishing deal?

You're right...Music isn't about any of those things. But THE MUSIC BUSINESS IS.

Making records is THE MUSIC BUSINESS. Placements are THE MUSIC BUSINESS. SELLING MUSIC IS THE MUSIC BUSINESS.

If it was just all about the love, then people would just stay in their bedrooms with their headphones on. If it were just about the love, people would just keep singing in church.
Read this article.

People go into the studio TO MAKE RECORDS TO MAKE MONEY. There is NOBODY ON THIS PLANET who has spent money to record a song, and has just kept that music to themselves.
LOLWUT

Everybody who is on PMP, who's sending out beat CD's, who's hitting up A&R's and artists...THEY AREN'T DOING IT FOR THE LOVE. THEY ARE DOING IT TO MAKE MONEY. BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE MAKE RECORDS FOR...TO MAKE MONEY.
The whole world doesn't revolve around a little web site, much less the entire industry, truth be told. And not every beatmaker/producer/musician/artist on the globe has the everlasting goal of becoming a millionare solely through the music "business".

That's the business of music.

Your post sounds VERY naive.

People make music because they love it. People make RECORDS to make money. Don't get that twisted.
So from your point of view, if I love and respect music as an artform, I shouldn't gain any profit whatsoever for my musical efforts, no matter how ungodly knowledgeable, talented, creative or business savvy I am. Do have any clue how completely fucking stupid that sounds? Especially negating from the sheer possibility of someone with those traits(ie music passion) gaining massive capitol via the music industry? You have a very blotched idea between the literary terms of 'music' and 'record'.

Sounds to me as if you're bitter about something, but I'm not going to dwell on it. Because simply if you're considering removing yourself from the music spectrum, then I have good reason not to give a fuck.

Which I'm about to execute in 3... 2... 1.

"Hey J this is the president of White-owned records. We see you still
survivin' but we want to ask you to keep your boys quiet. If you don't we will. Or here's another alternative. We take 95% of your company and you take five and we'll make you famous within ten years. It would take you a lifetime by yourself because you know your people don't stick together. What you say about that boy?

Man F**k you."

- Geto Boys, Do It Like A G.O.

Troup do ya thang and good luck with the site. Much respect as well for not just settling for whatever is thrown at you like a dog hungry for table scraps (which seems like most of these dumb spiteful fcks would do in here hating.) Keep it up and you'll get that turkey dinner

With all the money talk in this thread I thought i'd mention something that yall may not have thought over. If you are in the music industry to make a lot of money, you are definitely in the wrong industry. By statistics it is the most overcrowded, lowest return for time put in. You have to be in the top ranks to make any real money. Compare that to other industry's like real estate or health industries. You don't have a be in the top ranks to live decently off those.

The music industry brings in 20+billion worldwide. The executives and the most successful artists/producers get 95% of that. The rest of us(the 5%) are left to fight over the scraps. There are a lot of us trying to get a piece of that 5% pie so naturally not everyone is going to be satisfied with the money that they make. Even successful artists aren't happy with what they make. Thats why they say you really have to do music for the love of it, not the money...because there isn't that much money. Music really has the false perception of it being a rich industry... It really isn't at all. If you look at the amount of people doing it, the time they are putting in, the money they are making and I'm just talking about being able to live decently. I'm not talking about making millions.

Now if you really are about the money It would be a lot smarter going into another industry like advertising which brings in 700+billion a year. The pie is a lot bigger and there's less people fighting over it.

Just a little dose of reality for yall. Be smart about it

The Biggest Industries
a. Autos and the Oil Industry
b. Real Estate Development (New Home, Office, Retail, Industrial and Insitutuional construction but excluding infrastructure spending)
c. The IT industry
d. Gambling (Legal and Illegal)

Thats real talk.

I got another 1 for you...

(Quoted from Confessions of a record producer by Moses Avalon)

Page 3

" As in any business, before you get in over your head, it is important to understand what type of players you'll be dealing with. Those who invest in the music business are an unusual breed of gambler. A lawyer friend once explained it to me this way: " The entertainment industry is like a big casino. Motion pictures are the backroom baccarat tables for the millionaires with the $10,000 gold chips. Television is the $100 table for the yuppies, theater the $25 table, and the record biz is the $2 table, essentially for the bargain shopper......."

".....But for those of you who've never sat at the $2 table, I can tell you straight out, most of us got our clout from being shrewd, conniving, and, in many cases, lawless."

and now to Page 17

" The people in the music business that I have the most profound respect for are the musicians. They work the hardest and as a group, get paid the least. As I said earlier, almost everyone in this business started off as a musician, but after a few professional (or less than professional) encounters, many opt for something more steady. The ones that stay with it seem to do so for one main reason: they feel a burning passion to create. They did not choose music, music chose them! It's a dedication that is often under appreciated by labels...... "

Cats think it's get rich quick ****.

Three months later they realize it's not and quit.

New producers are born everyday and everyday a new producer quits.
