For hard to find music, I prefer CD to vynil. I am more likely to find the music I want on a CD compilation. I don't have to worry about buying a scratched copy as I would if I bought the music in vynil.
For scratching, vynil can't be replaced. Until recently, there was no way of marking the scratch beats for CD. Even though programmable CD players are now available to save a scratch beat, it's no where near as simple as placing a mark on your vynil. Unfortunately, TTism is an art and only truly appreciated by other TTists.
For mobile DJ'ing. I would have to go with software (I know I'm gonna get a lot of crap for writing this). Setting up with a rack-mount computer, I can reduce the total rig load by over 50%; since I don't have to lug 10-15 crates of music. It's a matter of convenience.
No matter what media you prefer, the only thing that matters is that you can keep the music going non-stop and that your crowd stays on the dance floor.
