This is a wicked question. For many, it already has. For me (I used to own an MPC, miss it like hell), I don't think a touch screen will even come close to having nice soft fat rubber pads to bang out a beat on.
I think the perfect solution would be a combination of the two, so you can do Kaoss Pad type stuff to automate parameters live as well as bang out beats on phat rubber pads.
Replace mpc fully i dont believe it will because some ppl love the hardware more than you know, but it seems as touch screen tablets and things of that nature are making their way towards defeating hardware but it is only one way to find out
Older heads will use the MPC till their dying day, look at DJ Premier for example, he's been on it for yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaars
I don't know about the iPad, it could be used for beats but it will never give you that same feeling of an MPC
I think iPads are the future. Or something similar. The technology is too close. It's just a matter of time before some producer produces a few hit records on it.
I think it depends on the producer and their choice of analog or digital, and even resources available. An MPC will always be an essential producing tool. Keep in mind, there are now MPD'S.
Idk I have an IPAD and an Imac, MPC 1000 etc. I just feel the Ipad is sort of limiting. Screen size etc. And just the processing power alone is not going to keep up with my VSTS and it will be hard to believe it will be able to handle programs like LOGIC. I also have the I/O dock and I would may say in that regard...recording...live performance...it could very well replace some things out there but a whole set up......not so fast.
The MPC will evolve as it has done in recent past. The iPad will and has already become a powerful mobile music making device and studio companion / sound module etc. But it will never replace the MPC. The 16 pad culture is like that of the guitar culture. Cats live and die by their MPCs. As long as it continues to evolve it will stay relevant.
True. And tbh it doesn't even need to evolve a huge amount, or certainly not to 'compete' with the iPad. The iPad's limitations hinder it from ever truly overtaking a proper 16-pad setup.
whats up guys, im using my ipad 4 like midi interface with fl studio to make some smash beats and i have to say that it is so powerful, i love it. some years ago i mess with akai mpc2000xl and it was great! but! for me its much easier to play with my tablet, than when i use analog mpc. I think its a choice of flavor, but we are now in 21 century, to progress and develop our skills we have just move forward and do it. but dont forget from where its all starts) dont forget the history guys!
As technology is constantly evolving.....In due time it will completely phase out the MPC as far as capabilities..the only thing that wont be replaced is the feel
i think it boils down to personal preference...i know cats that are still doing everything the old school(80s) way...you go to their place and it looks like a relic,a shrine to a long lost past...simply because they like the feel of it.some of em wouldnt even touch a modern day computer out of principle and it can at times be even counterproductive.technology has a lot to offer.it can simplify your work and speed it up as well ,giving you more free time for the creative process
i like to have the balance between the 90s way of doin things and todays.mpc, midi keyboard, laptop.that works for me.i need to have that analog feel...but again...its preference.i guess its not about how you make it but what you make... if it sounds dope and you enjoyed workin on it on an ipad,well...its fine with me
