@LabDummy
Leslie emerged as one of the music industry’s best new producers in the early ’00s, working with the likes of Cassie, Beyonce, Fabolous, & more. As the New York Post report, the laptop in question – plus external hard-drive – contained material Leslie was working on for Kanye West and Jay-Z’s Watch the Throne, as well as Leslie’s latest solo album Les is More. It was recovered by Armin Augstein, a shop owner, in November of 2010, but Leslie refused to pay the reward, suggesting that Armin may have been part of the theft.

Following the court case, the NYP claim that “Leslie — who had earlier joked he would either “be writing checks or buying Maseratis” — insisted afterward, “I’m not disappointed” and said he would consider an appeal.

What do you guys think of all this?

Me personally, I think the guy stole it & it's pretty obvious

Is it bad if I just saw the "stolen laptop" in the title and immediately thought of Cam Newton?

it wouldn't surprise me if the dude was in on the whole thing from jumpstreet

Oh well, laptops are running $400 now, lol.

... I know it's about the material that was on it but a guy with his talent could've just recreated what he could remember or something similar.

When publicity stunts go wrong...

Go cloud drives! Google Drive is awesome. Have it on your PC / Phone... access all of your stuff anytime / anywhere.

That's what happens when you pretend stuff is worth more than it is. He never expected to see that thing again when he said he'd pay that much for it.

a big mistake that many people don´t do

BACK UP your shit or taste how it is to lose all of you data´s, like Rles a the moment

i have saved my project files, sample librarys on external hard drives and in the next time I plan to make Images from my harddrive :)

That's GREAT! until your back up drive has a mechanical failure or gets stolen along with your PC / Mac.

... cloud drive / access from anywhere / no need to carry anything around / it's 2012 /

external hard drives are always at home not in the studio

not shure if cloud drive are secure, they are only saved with a login and password name, everyone can hack this and your shit will be shared all over the net

What gets broken into more?

Homes vs. Cloud drives?

Which is easier to drop?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which is more accessible / better to use? Let's say you go somewhere and your laptop malfunctions but somebody else has one that you can use for the moment?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which one can you give other people access to a folder to the easiest?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which is easier to use to transfer files between PC's?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

You make your beats and upload the session files and a final version to Google Drive (make a folder)

You put the Google Drive app on your phone

Wherever your phone goes, your beats go - the session files and the completed .mp3

Your way

You make a beat
Find a cable and plug it into your PC
Transfer the files to your back up drive
You accidentally delete the session file / .mp3
Find the cable again

Drop your external drive!!! click! click! click! Hard drive is stuck... Dammit!!!!

.... I could go on.

Also with Google Drive there are no cables and you don't have to click upload or anything...

You have a folder on your desktop and you just drag stuff into it... and it automatically uploads to your Google Drive.

There are other services but Google runs the whole world.

Oh, Microsoft SkyDrive will give your 25GB of cloud space for free.... but Google runs the world so I run with Google.

Oops... looks like you all missed out on the 25GB for free. I didn't though. They still give you more than Google Drive for free

Microsoft SkyDrive - Microsoft Windows

BUT! you can get 25GB on Google Drive for $2.49 a month.

cheap b*tch. i'd pull AKICKDOE for that money. now. let me post my music. #20up

dosent matter if he was in on it.. Soon as that reward was offered for the return of the shit, thats all that matters. He got his shit now PAY UP, FOOL!

Unless he can prove that the shop owner was "In on it" like he knew Ryan would automatically offer 1,000,000. SMH you can't assume ANYTHING, PAY THE MAN.

I'm with Rome. I keep all my stuff in my DropBox. If it's something you want secure encrypt it and then store it on your cloud drive.

If you want to stay physical then buy you one of those wireless harddrives, put it in a closet or someplace that you want worry about bumping or messing with and just backup to that. Save a copy local and a copy on the portable wireless drive, heck even another computer on your network.

But cloud let's you get to your files anyplace that has internet. Technically you could do a VPN into your home network and do the same but cloud is there, Use it

i was talking on how to save your pc and not how to exchange files with others

i agree that it is faster & easier to use online storage to exchange project files online with others, but useing this for privacy backup ? i have 4 external drives with 1-2 GB i would never upload it online :p

I honestly refuse to believe that a Harvard Graduate is that dumb.

Ryan has an album that dropped about 1-2 weeks ago, isn't it a little bit of a coincidence that this is NOW taking place? Even if he has to pay a mill to the guy, he has his face plastered all over that NY Post Newspaper... who called the press to the court? Keep in mind Ryan is not signed to a major so he is doing something to keep the press on him like that.

That 1 Mill he has to drop is getting him the promo he needs, those who didn't know about Ryan Leslie before will know him now.

and I agree, i understand not wanting to throw all your files on a cloud service but if you are a musician/producer that shit is a no brainer.

Ryan Leslie wanted to pay for the data, not the physical parts of the laptop.

If you don't want your data subject to corruption from dust, dropping, physical theft... put it on a cloud drive.

Like anything else... at first nobody wants to get on board even though it's a better option.

Nobody is going to break into a Google Drive looking for beats, lol. Just make a good password and change it from time to time.

I say to use Google Drive because you'll get a Google PLAY account. You can upload your final versions to Google PLAY Music and make a folder on Google PLAY Music for just your beats. You can pull up the Google PLAY Music app and stream the final version of your beats from anywhere. Surrrreeee, you can do that with Soundcloud too but anybody can hear your ish on Soundcloud. You have to log into your Google PLAY Music account to stream.

FireMarshall Bill voice - Let's say you're at a party and there's an RCA cable with a 3.5mm jack. You plug it into your phone, stream your flaming hot fiyah beats from Google PLAY Music and some hot young whipper snapper rapper wants to buy it. You could send him to your website or you can download it to your phone using the Google Drive app, take his money and send it to his phone and whatever email addresses he wants. Then other rappers join in and want to hear more and you play more flaming hot fiyah beats and the stereo system overheats and burns down the entire block!

I say all of that to say... go with the times. The cloud follows you around.
