Ryan Leslie Ordered To Pay $1M Reward He Promised For Recovery Of Stolen Laptop

Anyone know what "Les is More" sold? It would have to generate some decent change to cover a million bucks in unforseen budgeting. Thinking with business sense makes this story hilarious. You think he even made a million out Germany?

No way that was gonna ever get paid. Even if he took a $50k loss for every track on that album and every feature he did with others that was on that HD, it wouldn't come close. And he'd have to take more than that to make the recovery of the device worth 1 million dollars......

Now, the million dollar question...WHO LEAVES A MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF TRACKS SITTING IN A CAR IN A FOREIGN PLACE WITH NO BACKUP WHATSOEVER?

How does he know the person that returned it didn't steal it in the first place?

What gets broken into more?

Homes vs. Cloud drives?

Which is easier to drop?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which is more accessible / better to use? Let's say you go somewhere and your laptop malfunctions but somebody else has one that you can use for the moment?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which one can you give other people access to a folder to the easiest?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

Which is easier to use to transfer files between PC's?

Physical drive vs. cloud drive

You make your beats and upload the session files and a final version to Google Drive (make a folder)

You put the Google Drive app on your phone

Wherever your phone goes, your beats go - the session files and the completed .mp3

Your way

You make a beat
Find a cable and plug it into your PC
Transfer the files to your back up drive
You accidentally delete the session file / .mp3
Find the cable again

Drop your external drive!!! click! click! click! Hard drive is stuck... Dammit!!!!

.... I could go on.

Also with Google Drive there are no cables and you don't have to click upload or anything...

You have a folder on your desktop and you just drag stuff into it... and it automatically uploads to your Google Drive.

There are other services but Google runs the whole world.

Oh, Microsoft SkyDrive will give your 25GB of cloud space for free.... but Google runs the world so I run with Google.

Oops... looks like you all missed out on the 25GB for free. I didn't though. They still give you more than Google Drive for free

Microsoft SkyDrive - Microsoft Windows

BUT! you can get 25GB on Google Drive for $2.49 a month.

I feel you about google runnin ish but dropbox gets my vote for sending sessions and for allowing you to get more free storage...

DropBox is cool but Google has more MUNNY. I wouldn't run with a service that might fold one day.

They're all the same, I was just trying to say that cloud drives... are TWITTER. The new ish, and people should stop being scared of being able to physically see their data.

You can't beat. SkyDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, Box.... etc.

Also, Ryan Leslie... is a drunk. That vid is ridiculous. They should've slapped another millie on his ass. If your music doesn't sell, it doesn't sell. Stop putting plots around your shit.

And "some of you" can't read. The laptop was brought back and therefor so was the harddrive containing the tracks. From what I read, the laptop as such was damaged (duh! someone thought they will probably find some secrets, looked into it, didn't find anything, threw it away) and that's why he sent in the harddrive to the manufacturer (LOL), which probably just formatted it and checked if it's still working LOL. Ask some people (there are many here working in IT) around, it is HARD (DRIVE) AS HELL to delete anything off of a harddrive, which isn't even the case here.
The hardware was damaged and the hardware CONTAINED the files.
Then our Harvard-genius sent in the harddrive to the manufacturer.

You can read about it..........because that's the facts as presented by RLes in court and stated BY THE JUDGE. So it's not true that the content wasn't there - RLES COULDN'T RECOVER THE FILES (!!!). That means, that our Million Dollar Man was too cheap to ask a $150/h data-recovery firm to recover the files for him. Stupidity at its highest level.
well someone also said the files were corrupted not deleted so that my put a dent on things

either way he still had not obtain his intellectual property back. if you offer a reward for something wouldn't you expect it the same way it left you.

Don't be too cocky...
I been using Sylenth1,Nexus,Massive, and Sample Tank lately
though
I just love sample lbraries because I love to chop, reverse, sampling in general and don't have to worry about clearing samples
like this sample library here

you use VST alot so it works for you
I would have to pay $20 a month to store my sample library
with is $240.00 a year
If they had a one time payment for a year service of $120
I'll probably store my sample library there
like I said great for session files for sure though

I'll have two hard drive back up for my sample library
but I think I will upload my session files to the Cloud
they are small enough
not vocals right now

I don't backup anything.

What's the point? I send my music out as soon as I export it to wav. I don't care about the session files and all that other stuff after my last fiasco.

My Windows XP computer died. I had backed up some session files and added stuff to my Windows 7 computer. Interestingly, some samples and Vsts and session files didn't work. I just said screw it and made all new music. All of my newer stuff is way hotter than the old stuff.

Being too precious about music is counterproductive for me. Losing all that old material forced me to work hard to build a bigger and badder collection of stuff.

I do worry about keeping my sample library safe

what about the artists who want to mix with your stems or say they want to change or add something later? session files are important but so is compatibility. If your plug ins are legit and your DAW is setup to work with the OS upgrade then you should be fine in most cases. If its pirated then you sort of deserve it. I have old Sonar sessions from XP that converted fine on 7 and have never had any issues with samples going from os to os

Tone always finds a way to make something that it's not about him, about him. lol.

We're not talking about sample libraries, we're talking about backing things up when shit hits the fan.

Dude, with all due respect but sometimes you reek of insecurity.

I don't mess with pirated stuff. Some files and programs weren't ready to jump from 32-bit XP to 64-bit Windows 7. But I had a lot of demo or free VSTs with presets that I had tweaked. I didn't copy over everything correctly and the old computer died! Oh well.

I'm sitting on over 200GB alone. It wouldn't make sense to put it online. But those online deals are good back ups.

cokeandpopcorn.eu

got everything you need there potna.

It is horrible that he has to pay the man a dime. The laptop did not have what he wanted on it meaning it was tAmpered with. Thats like me stealing a purse and taking all the money out and wait for a reward then turn it back in with no money. Rediculous. I salute R Les for still making great music.

Leslie offered a reward for the laptop, not what was inside of it. Should have never made the reward that big in the first place.
