Yeah it's for free too. Plus when you get a huge amount of refills put them on a disk for safe keeping that's what I am about to do, and use that disk as a back up, never know. Some days on my down time I just shape kicks and snares and loop sounds and make a refill so I can go back and get them later, I was glad when they made that, I slept on it for a long while. :victory:

Hey DaNoc, you can throw that MPC of yours out the window. I'm tellin' you right now, it's an antiquated piece of equipment. It's time to face facts and let it go man, seriously!!!!!

Nah KB, I said it before I have two ways to produce, One way is MPC+PT8, that's where the vsti's and vst's I want to use on a particular song I will use it. 2nd way is strictly through Record. I have lots of tracks saved on a hard drive connected to the MPC no way hosea. question for you, what happens if all my hardware goes down and I have to wait 2weeks to get the computer fixed etc etc? My MPC is gone, do I sit and twiddle my thumbs? What's your answer to that?

Get's some drum sticks and beat them on the kitchen table.

I don't know. All I'm sayin' is that the MPC is done. It had it's day. It's antiquated man. Game over!!!!:):):)

The MPC on a BROAD scale may be over, but in MY studio it's not. Getting rid of my MPC is like telling a hospital to not have an emergency back up system. If you have no answer I can't honor you saying "GET RID OF THE MPC". Now if you're talking about generally is the Product then cool. At the end of the day no one will ask " was dat done on a MPC?" I already have new technology, I have the MPK88 :) You forget man lol  THE MPC STAYS!

i have to disagree i feel that everytime the props realeases a update because its very innovative most people dont realize that with every devices there a million and one routing capabilities to achieve a million and one fx's and sounds. most people just look at the outside instead of looking at the whole entire spectrum of reason name a vst that a daw and vst that can do what reason does without taxing your computer. name a daw that has a similar mixing board as record without using 3rd party plugins. name a daw that can take vocals and mangle and layer like the combinator with vocals. i haven't seen none because i own most of them.name a daw whose time stretch is touching record. people limit themselves to not think outside the box. which why people complain about stuff all time when it comes daws people want new updates every year and they haven't learned half of what already in the daw. or vsts for that matter. oh yeah no daw or vst has the remote feature. none of them. usually with most software you have to go through a lot of configuration just to get to function half as good as remote function.
sonar has act which is like remoute and works very well

The best part about this is that when Danoc doesnt use his mpc for 3 years because he is so happy with this update when he decides to sell his mpc it will only be worth $150. Reason 5.0= MPC killer

I'll buy it if it can do something Live 8 + Reason 4 can't. Not just any ol' something. Something big.

I like how they hooked Neptune up to RPG-8, and the built-in harmonizer, but that ain't enough for me to upgrade. Neither is $150 for record plus lame reason update. If the update was anything special they wouldn't offer such a good upgrade path.

I'm guessing there's a new 16 pad drum sampler device that chops up audio internally, based on the hints from the people violating their NDAs on here. I bet next time they'll do the 5 day feature creep BEFORE they let people beta test it.

Blocks isn't even in the same ballpark as Live's session view. Session view is spontaneous, on the fly. At least it is if you want it to be.

About a month ago, propellerheads sent out E-mails asking for testers. I wonder if that was alpha testers for reason 5 or if it was for a brand new product. I don't see why they would ask for testers for a "secret" project, shortly b4 revealing the secret is reason 5.

I tried to stay away but I love to read the threads on this forum. I have been beta testing Record/Reason all day today and I have to say that this is a nice update. I do not think the updates are record shattering but the workflow improvements are nice. It seems like Props took features from other DAWs and add them to the Record/Reason combo and made them their own…

I am also glad that my friend has changed his workflow from recording vsti(s) live in Record to using a mpc, pro-tools and vsti. Wow, that makes allot more sense then buying another computer. Especially when he already own a mac pro 8 or 16 core machine with 16 GB of ram already just to record vsti live into Record. Record is a nice product but not that nice that I would purchase a separate computer just to record vsti(s) into Record. The mpc, pro-tool, vsti makes allot more sense…

Back to the Record/Reason update…

One company, one program (record/reason as one) and one production station is a great concept. The beauty of the Reason/Record combo is that it covers all bases. It covers everything from beginners to intermediates to season veterans. It is damn near amazing what this product has become.

Now, the only reason I “had” to join this thread is because in multiple posts there is verbage about how refills sounded just as good as vsti (s) or individuals can program the reason modules to sound like any vsti(s)…

This vsti uses the kontakt 4 player (which has scripting and keys switching that Reason does not have). I would love to see one of you guys program reason to do the above…

How about make a Combination of the above and post it so I could see exactly what you are talking about.

Last question which patch in Reason sounds like Hollywood Strings…

Again, one company, one program (record/reason as one) and one production station is a great concept.

I've said it before, I am a Reason user and I rewire it into Live. I plan on grabbing Record and continuing the way I work because Record is a Rewire client. This whole Reason/Record vs. vst argument is ridiculous now.

The best combination is what you just said. Use Reason/Record and a host. That way the world is at your disposal.

If you wait for tomorrow, maybe you'll change your mind. If not, then I suggest, try the public beta. If not, wait for the demo. Even at the beta testers' forum, a lot of them doesn't even know all the capabilities of the new update.

i own both Record and Reason too and plan on updating but i am not a "real" reason or record user. when i go to local schools and talk to the kids about there is more to life than being a drug dealer, pro athlete, producer or rapper i use Record/Reason as my hook...

there are posts in this thread that say "why do you need vsti when there are refills"...

refills cannot mess with any stream from disk vsti...

and if i am wrong i would love to see a combinator patch that does..

we all need to stop debating, ReWire Reason w/ a host that's running a VSTi, and w/ one single keyboard key, trigger BOTH the Reason device AND the VSTi SIMULTANEOUSLY...

(still trying to figure out how to do this, actually)

for reals...is there a way to play BOTH at the same time using ONE MIDI controller???

Yes sir. I do it with Live.
