XXXPlosive was sampled from the same breakbeat as Lil' Kim's "Queen B*ch". I always found it wierd because the melody is sampled/interpolated from the same song as "Drugs" by Lil' Kim off the same album.

And for the record, yes, my drums were "gated" on both audio examples I posted. I suggest using asdhr value adjustment for complete control, not an actual Gate effect.

o **** u'r right! (about both)

and for the record, Kim's first album is crazy!

It's not as much "less sounds" as it is putting all sounds in the right place.

Less sounds is only the answer when you don't know where to put them in a mix. ...who ever said making music was rocket science anyway?

true

how would i go about mixing in fl studio mixer? like which plugins would i use for EQing and etc?

all i basically know what to do is raise and lower the volumes, and bass boost.

One of the biggest mistakes i see alot of people doing is overprocessing their drum samples. Most of these sample packs you buy have already been pre-processed so any significant additional processing makes them sound like ****.

Heavy compression on drum samples should never be an essential part of the mix stage and it will suck the life out of the mix before you know it. Compressing for the sake of loudness often squashes the transients/peaks of the mix which gives it a loud but lifeless feeling.

smart use of panning and rolling off unwanted low frequencies from other instruments will allow your bass/kick to cut through the mix. Another problem i see when i get alot of other producers tracks to mix is that the kicks and bass are tuned improperly which causes severe phasing issues. Try to get your kicks and bass tuned as accurately as possible.

hope this helps

peace

I compress my drums with a great ratio and threshold. Makes my kicks aggressive. Then I boost the hell out of the lows, and tweak the sound with effects and/or EQ. Most of the time I roll of everything under 40hz for my kicks, bass, or any other synth that is really thick and needs to corporate.

Sorry for not bothering to read every post in the thread LOL

i didn't see anything mentioned about tuning drums to avoid phasing though

nobody is trying to take away from the advice you dropped

detox is being recorded and mixed down using fruity loops and stock sounds only. he is putting the soundgoodizer on his kicks. detox the album comes with a dvd of him making detox in his secret studio. i got the real detox right now, seriously.

Look up abyss plugins on the web. There plugins are free and have the an invert button on them. Google it. And to the drum tuning comment. Good add Komplex but if you cant hear your drums phasing or anything else in a mix phasing and know how to fix it, then u need to start from scratch period. That was one thing i always knew how to fix from day one with no experience. Pitch up or down drums, snares, hi-hats, toms, and any other percussion element when layering these. Use different pitches. Problem solved

And 901 Rice Street, go find a park and play

Besides, all this stuff should have been sticky'd by somebody a long time ago to help up and coming producers. Not necessarily this thread but damn sure a thread.
