MIko Timbaland SE

I purchased my Miko in November 2007; back order- I received it March 2008. There was a serious waiting list.

Here are Pros:

1. You will never have to go out and buy antother sound ever again.
a. Timbo - Paractically cloned his entire vintage Library, just as advertised;which are VSTi virtual instrument plug-ins.
b. The shound is Thick, Warm, Knocking...remindes meof the Analog/Digital converters the MPC 60 and MPC 3000 & ASR both sharp and warm combo.
c. If you decide that you like a partcular Keyboard that just hit the mark. Openlabs provides the Mimic software progrfam with translater. Basically, you MIDI-in and MIDI-out to any keyboard that you want to clone. The program will clone the exact keyboard into a virtual instrument modules that you can store in your Miko Keyboard.
Note: Mimic is 3rd parthy software. However, open labs provides the software as a part of the bundule; it works and it is the real deal.

d. Miko is the BEST mobile protable solution and TRUE ALL-IN One workstation. Having the Mimko replaced ALL..and I mean ALL the external hardware that I had in my studio...this is a serious space saving investment. Also, the work flow is simplified; no searching through external modules to finds sounds and etc..

e. Since this is really PC with Dual/Quad Core CPU, 4GB Ram and up to 1Tera byte HD... USB , FireWaire, Ethernet, External VGA port for Video Expansion port, Internal Touch Screen DVD/W CD/R... yu can do anything you would n a Desktop Computer..Why it is a Desktop Computer that has been customized to fit in a keyboard Chasis..

f. Supports and Music Softeware Compatible with PC and Windows XP.

Cons -
1.NO MAC version OSX version of the Miko
2.There is no built in Sequencer
a. requires an external sequencer if you sequence

Other than this I love it.....

I hope this hepls you....

At the end of the day, whether you have a $500 dollar drum macahine, keyboard or $5,000.00 Miko or what ever you have, it's all about Music and what best complements your workflow and gets the job done.

Good luck and best wishes!

1. "A/D convertors thick and warm like an MPC 60" - it uses a low-end presonus firebox soundcard. soundcards nowadays are known for transparency and being clean not "coloring" the sound like the old lo-fi mpcs did. this is even more funny if were talking ITB beatmaking and you arent recording anything like guitars...

2. "There is no built in sequencer" - It comes with Reaper and if you dont like that you can just install whatever DAW you choose. The one I used had Reason and Sonar on it as well...

heres mine. I love it. I'm still learning it but it's really a beast! I really dont want to spend all that time to pimp my pc just to compete with the miko when I could just buy one and get the support behind it. It's really a good tool If your serious.

Polow uses one...But thats besides the point...Its irrelavant really...The functions are my main concern not who uses them...
can you take a hot loop that already exists, add a drum sound to it, and get another dude to lay some cool piano riffs on the bridge with this Miko thing ?

Yes sir! Then after that you can sign various beatmakers to your production label and have em shout Zone 4 on internet messageboards.:sing:

Here's mine. I had just added the second video card, so the endbells aren't on the miko. And there's crap all over the place.

Can you mimik the sounds off the timbo? or can you only mimik into it?

So ideally you could if you knew someone with a Timbo you could pull of his sound library and load it onto like a Dbeat or another open labs product if you wanted to?

Does it mimik in .wav format or does it only work between open labs. Sorry about the mimik questions, there's just some software on the timbo you just can't buy
