its embarassing having people come over and having them see that ish in my crib....

talk about no frills

I have no idea what you're talking about, put up a pic or something. I shop at target over ghetto mart.

on the left the new packaging, on the right the old packaging(more appealing) .

the old ones used to look like the products they were imitating, now they are white and plain and cheap as hell

I was thinking the same thing when I saw their new sweet tea packaging.

Lol, no b.s. I always get my kids the apple juice. I didn't even realized they switched labels, I thought they were out of apple juice the last few times I been in Wal-Mart, just realized last visit that the labels changed. I'm sure they did it for cheaper packaging, but I'm also sure i'm not the only customer who didn't buy stuff because I didn't realize the wrapper changed.

I'm sure that's losing them money.

It's a recession. People are looking for CHEAP deals...

Walmart is getting alot of middle class people coming in for cheap deals...people who previously didn't shop at wal-mart...

Wal-mart makes more money off their house brand, than they do off name brands...

So guess what? Wal-Mart is gonna make their brand stick out like a sore thumb, so that the EXTREME BARGAIN SHOPPERS, can easily identify it, and pick it up.

Because looking "cheap as fcuk" was exactly what wal-mart was going for. :)

^ Pretty much.

What's so embarrassing about "Great Value"?

Troup, you're always so analytical. Even when it comes to Wal-Mart packaging.

Not dissing, it's just funny. This whole post is.

And again, Wal-Mart sweet tea is the S**T.

Proud to say that even when I'm broke, I never shop at Wal-Mart. That extra 32 cents off comes from undercutting local businesses and treating employees like crap.

they used to get me with the 2 for $10 dvd bins...

usuallyits me and 2 or 3 other people digging through those big bins full of dvds.like we looking for gold and shyt....we looking for that prize jewel....

I look for Great Value on everything I want out of Wal Mart.

Get a package of the real ish and refill it with Great Value stuff if you're embarrassed...

People don't go all through my ish at my spot though...

Lol, that's that business sense. I never looked at it from that angle, but that's exactly what it is.

Private label products.

A step up from generic in terms of image. Value-conscious consumers are the majority, and so it is a great profit center.

(Some off-brand stuff simply can't keep up, though. And some stuff beats the brakes off of the name brand. example that narcotic apple juice you guys keep on referring to in here!)

I work at a Retail Marketing and Customer Insights firm now. So when I see stuff like that packaging, I now know the reasoning behind it.

The things that i've learned here in a few short months has made me look at the relationship between store and customer, and how the store reaches and retains that customer, COMPLETELY different now.

It's some really, really fascinating stuff.

Why because he is right?
It's called branding.

Do you know what the items are called at the checkout line?
Have you ever noticed how certain items of the same kind are located on different shelves (this is similar to a Billboard advertisement and companies pay retailers for this space)?
Try and calculate which item is the better bargain with out a calculator or piece of paper.

LOL, there is almost science behind this stuff.

Anyhow, yeah this post is kind of off.
You should be glad you have food.
I don't see anything embarrassing about having food.
That is a "hood" attitude outlook to things... bigger better shinier mentality for you.
Do you know you've probably passed quite a few millionaires and not even recognized it?
Yet alone you've seen quite a few dope boys and have known instantly.

This is what is wrong with consumer debt right now!!!

Kroger's is better and cheaper. a bag of great value sugar is 2.76. a bag of kroger brand sugar is 1.97

Walmart makes the packing look cheap so people will buy it. people will assume it is cheaper because it looks cheaper. it's pretty smart.

yup, "they don't spend the money on the fancy packaging, they are putting it all into getting better ingredients"..........yeah right.
