The reason white rappers were perceived as corny?

Extremely low NPM (Niggas Per Minute) in their verses.
That's what NWA taught you. And I'm only half-joking.

The true reason is, that hip hop was a rebel culture and "white suburbia" had nothing to rebel against. White people already had their WORLDWIDE rebellion at Woodstock and in the late 60s.

This went from San Francisco through New York, to the worker-class people in Liverpool and German students who hated their parents and grandparents who supported Hitler.

The "Black Man" was the new (and old) James Dean and the underdog.
No matter where you came from ('cause lets face it, 90% of the world had it AS TOUGH or TOUGHER than Afro-Americans), you could relate to the struggle.

That's why for example hip hip in France was/is so huge and realer than real; these people did REALLY struggle. They were REALLY oppressed and had to fight for their rights.

Most white people, especially in the "Western Hemisphere", knew none of that.
But that changed. Brazilian hip hop is just as real as Polish hip hop, the stories of Vietnamese gangs are as true as stories from Compton. Things changed.

But the White Boy is still a sub-urban, middle-class kid, who is an onlooker, a spectator and not part of the struggle. Even though it's not true and "White Trash" rappers can relate to the struggle, poverty, drugs and crime as much as any "gangsta".

What about "black" rappers though? Rap loses its stamina, because many of today's stars rap about shit they had nothing to do with, just as the white, suburban kid they sell their records to.

it aint about your color, its about the level of ignorance in your music. hip hop/rap is music that has alot of attitude, if you lack that then of course you'll be corny.

thats what most of these wack rappers lack, attitude in their voice. you hear their voice and you think to yourself "wtf, stfu u garbage". but if they had a voice thats out there with some ignorant ass accent & lyrics you'd like it.

I think that alot of white rappers tend to try and overcompensate with lyrics which leads them down a road of songs that dont make alot of sense, which turns into a trail that comes off corny

RAP is an acronym for Record of Arrest and Prosecution.

Ever heard someone say "He has a RAP sheet a mile long!"

... if you don't have a RAP sheet, nobody believes your raps because you're regurgitating stuff you heard somewhere and it never comes off as being authentic. - simple.

white rappers are corny because they are just corny dudes. being white doesnt automatically make you corny. nor does being a white rapper.

paul wall=not corny

mgk=corny

both are white but there are vast differences in the swagger thet bring to the table

You don't have to rap about crime though. And you definitely don't have to have a record to be a criminal. I know people who flipped yay for years and done some grimy shit, but they never got caught. Rap is all about attitude, it's acting. If you can't seem convincing, noone is convinced. No matter what the lyrical content.

Honestly I like mgk more. Paul Wall is more unbelievable to me. Maybe I just don't know my rappers.
