As a Rane owner, I will be happy to square off with you...
A lot of the wavemusic heads know an incredible amount, but they are also VERY biased. What they always neglect to mention is that the 2016 sounds cleaner than the Bozak or Urei. I did not say better. I lust after the bozak sound too. However, for what I do with my mixer, I find it the best to use for the following reasons:
1. I know that the sound coming out is about as close to possible as the source.
2. I have channel EQs, which while not necessary, are very fun.
3. I know that Rane will break their backs to take care of me if it goes down. I know that Bozaks and Ureis are field-replacable, and I envy that, but this is the next best thing, and free...
4. I KNOW that quality replacement parts are and will be available for a long time coming.
Really, the only things that I do not like are the fact that I have gain controls instead of balances, and not much control over the effects loop (but I do not use effects, so no reason to whine). People can speak badly about the Rane all day, but when used correctly (which I must question if some of those people are doing), the sound, output, and reliability are all great. Also, the I/O options on the Rane spank either other, especially when you consider the fact that you can matrix with channel EQs. All three are killer mixers, and I would be happy with any of them, but I do not think the Rane deserves all of the flak it gets. Does it sound like a Bozak? No. But does it sound REALLY clean (and good in my opinion)? Yes.
EDIT: I say as many of us as possible get together one day and just have an audio deathmatch. Mixers, TTs, carts, speakers, amps, vinyl/CDs, effects, and the like.
