It can. The Maschine controller is actually a very nice controller for other apps since you can setup multiple mappings and switch between them on the fly. Being able to label things is also nice. I use it as a Midi Fighter/FX Trigger with Traktor. I also use it to control Ableton sometimes for clip triggering.

^Thanks, can I ask how does Maschine do external sampling?. It only has a usb port and midi so when I was watching these guy sample from a record how was he doing that?. I have no other equipment besides a laptop and soon to be maschine.

What I mean is I like to sample from my Ipod/turntable so how can I do that with Maschine and my laptop?. I'm confused do I need extra equipemnt?.

With a turntable connected to an audio interface (Like an MBox, or what have you.)

Mbox is too expensive Can anyone recommend something cheap to connect to a laptop via usb?

I can't post links yet, but it really doesn't have to be anything special. Check out musiciansfriend or guitar center.. even best buy and look for a two channel interface. Most, if not all have USB support these days. I think just about any sub-100 dollar unit will do what you need it to do.

My laptop here has a mic input so could I link the ipod to the mic and then select it on maschine as external?

Maschine doesn't have any physical audio inputs. In the videos you have seen they are inputing audio using an audio interface. If you are planning to make a leap into into digital audio it would be a good idea to get one. You CAN use your computer's built-in sound card but an external audio interface is always a good/great idea.l

Cheers mate but I just spent all my moolah on Maschine. What I wanted to know was is it possible to use the mic input on my laptop and external sample that with MAschine?.

Yes this is possible as well. You can install Asio4All. This will help you get the best performance you can out of your built-in sound.

You can sample off the Internet with maschine, don't know whether you have mac or windows. You need to download soundflower if it's mac. Not sure bout windows but there should be a program.

I'm really trying to keep using the pc to a minimum so sampling with an external source like my ipod is preffered.

if u want to keep pc useage to a minimum sell Maschine and get a mpc

^Hi doesn't mean I want to completely get rid of it, plus from what I seen Maschine just seemed a better product for buck.

Machine is still software it just has a midi controller that controls almost every aspect of the program. If u want to get away from the computer then I would suggest a mpc. Even if u want some things in the computer most daws will take the mpc though I don't see a reason to do it

Well I just want to stop staring at the screen and using the mouse and make music by using my ears instead of being tied to the monitor etc if that makes sense.
You made the right choice. Maschine is the best of both worlds since it's not slow and archaic like MPCs yet allows for that completely hands-on hardware workflow without having to look at a computer screen or touch a mouse.

^Thanks.

OK quick question I want to sample off my Ipod/Ipad so I need a usb audio device for my laptop. Is this right?

Also regarding Komplete, if I buy that in the future is that a standalone application that I can use within MAschine?. Or am I completely wrong?

You can use Komplete and any other vst with Maschine for the most part.

Thanks but its been a while but don't you need a DAW to use VSTs?. Or most standalone now?.

No, you don't need a DAW to use plugins. Maschine hosts plugins within itself whether it's used in standalone mode or as a plugin itself.

As for sampling from your ipod, doesn't your laptop already have a soundcard with audio input? Then you don't need a usb audio interface.

Just got Maschine, problem is registeriung the damm thing. How long should the serial number be?. The seller has sold me it but scribbled some numbers and none of them work?.
