When choosing between to equally attractive women which one would you pick...

A) Wants to be wined and dined at classy establishments

B) Lets you hit for free - asks no questions

Your choice will let you know if you're any different from those "rappers"

yeah i hear that. although, no matter what you'd choose in that setting, i'd say that if you don't repsect Hiphop as a culture enough to pay a few dollars for a beat, you can just get out right now. i get it if we're talking about hobby rappers who have no intentions of making it, but otherwise, they don't get my respect with that sh!t. just my opinion, not fronting.

So...I opened the topic and saw that the OP was talking about giving away beats. Then I click on the last page to see how the convo was going....and I see convo about herpes and hookers.

God bless futueproducers...

All of that is Hip Hop... I wish somebody would make raps about it and about what could happen so I can play it for my kids... Hip Hop used to be educational...

Kool Moe Dee - Go See The Doctorrrrrrrrrrrrrr....

lol @ a few dollars.

The average no name producer wants $500 for an exclusive.

Multiply that by a 10 track album...

Not to mention most of these albums or mixtapes are going to be free. Who is gonna pay for beats for a free album lol.

Go See The Doctor was a funny song with a message intertwined ... it made you laugh but made you cautious at the same time.

It's actually time for another one....

lol yeah, but i mean, if your serious about your music, you should be able to at least pay some dollars ** for them.

** actually, aloooot of "producers" charges like 10-25 dollars for a beat (whether it's leased or an exclusive).. This should be more than fair for all rappers, especially if they're serious about they're music.

Actually, I get that if you know you won't be making any money of you're album, you don't want to spend alot of cash on the beats. However we beatmakers/producers put in alot of work for the beats. I really don't mind that many rappers get free beats, however i do mind that alot of rappers, like the ones on the site, are being ignorant enough
to actually say that it's rediculous to pay for beats. That's just disrespectfull, and that's why i say they can simply GTFO.

If your energy is going toward "selling beats" on the internet to strangers chances are you're doing it back asswards anyways.

My approach production-wise recently has been finding talented rappers to work with who I also enjoy hanging out with and working with them for free to build up a catalog. As long as you work with people you can also be friends with, there's no reason the two of you can't come up together. Put some songs together and have a finished piece of art that you can impress people with rather than constantly trying to make a quick buck from no-names, and your longevity will be more assured.

I've been trying to tell people this but nobody listens. Instead of trying to make $20 try to become the next Gang Starr.

Why Not do both? If an artist that i dont know/never heard of approaches me for beats.....you can bet your ass that im gonna charge him at least something...I usually work price deals with most artists as they usually want more than 1 beat.

On the other hand, if i see an artist i personally think is dope or that i happen to know personally or have a working relationship with, that changes things because that is basically me approaching/knowing that artist. I am currently working on an album with an artist that is also a friend of mine (It just so happens that he is dope) and i Dont charge him for beats.

Nothing wrong with either avenue in music imo, theres more than 1 way to skin a cat if you catch my drift.

lmao, who cares what a bunch of lames say...they dont buy beats, who cares? theres plenty ppl out there that do

when an artist gets to a level in which they feel like the only way they can get to the next level is by buying quality, they'll buy the beats

if u gonna give beats away, give them to an artist in which you know is actually out there grindin

talent dont mean shit, give your shit to cats thats out there hustlin doin shows and have a realistic outlook on the business

if u really about your shit, u wouldnt even be payin attention to the cats that dont buy.

You sound surprised.

Why would someone WANT to pay for anything.
I pay for products that I like because I want the company to stick around and continue to make things that I like. Nobody buys products and the company goes away. We are in a weird era of supply and demand where demand can be there and there can be an endless supply of goods and a company makes little to no real profit. Strange times indeed.

You gotta look good to sell beats that's why y'all having issues I LOOK GOOD THAS HOW I SELL MY BEATS g shit

#serious post : if you really wanna make a living off music production you have to be versatile. Gradually go from organic hip hop to soul beats, than trap 808 beats. If you wanna make a killing off music production make pop beats. Go on the billboard charts and see top ten sellers. All pop or uptempo rnb. Unless youre too cool for pop and rnb. Unless you have a single placement with a major hip hop artist, than you my friend don't look as good as I. G shit!

They still make rnb? I aint heard an rnb song on radio in some time now.

Mainstream music in general isn't educational but most of its meant for clubs and chicks so yea lol..
