thinking of quiting beatmaking.

D Major, I read most of your posts and I checked out your music as well as Gabe Parker's music. And I liked alot of your beats better than his. Especially "slow r&b". I agree with a couple others that you could consider using different sounds, because "Dirty South" synths are overused. But all of this is really besides the point...

Why the heck are you comparing yourself to Gabe Parker? You'll never be Gabe Parker. And why the **** would you want to be him when you can be YOU?

One of the most cliche phrases in hip-hop is absolutely true.

DO YOU.

I dont want to be like him or make music that he makes but i want to make great music like him. And alot of those songs are just not his best cause i heard alot of his stuff that is not on there and he's got some real good stuff.

You're already making great music dude. But you gotta have confidence in yourself. You're D Major and you make dope beats. The fact that you're dissatisfied with your current music means that you want to get better. That's a good thing! Keep working on your craft and quit psyching yourself out man.

Shit dmajor.. I listened to the guy you said made you want to quit making tracks, and hell he made me want to quit!! Lol... Naw his level is obtainable bro. As long as you got drive and a genuine love for the art, you good. Don't worry about him, do yo thang!! Damn, dude got some heat though!lol

hey man im only 15, but if you have fun making beats, make beats dude. who cares if you suck?! if you have fun doing what you do, then no one has the right to tell you not to do it.

Hearing someone better than you shouldn't make you want to quit, it should make you want to work harder.

engineering is kinda something i would like to do too but still i don't want that.I wanna be the guy that creates the sound that people feel and dance too. Music production school was always something i wanted to do too but there is no good school here except a community college audio recording program.

You should move to where there is a good school at.

I don't really want to do Beat production. But I feel like I have to, in order to get to my true dreams which is to be a writer/screenwriter/songwriter. Because no underground producer wants to take a chance even though it wouldn't hurt them none to put faith in me.

Collab with other people. Speak to the guy you were talking about. Ask him if he can help you out by sharing some tips and showing you what not to do.

I think what you are lacking is self confidence. The best piano player is not the best producer. I don't play keyboard but I know what sounds good. Find out what you want your sound to sound like exactly and you don't let nobody tell you otherwise.

I have had doubts in my writing (had thoughts of suicide but not because I thought I sucked) I've had my rough moments, I was gonna quit writing but I thought about it and I'm like hell no. I don't need no producer the producers need me. If you not good at producing maybe you're good at writing to the music. Explore other options in music.

Because in the R&B field, labels don't by beats they by songs. So producers need songwriters to come up.

Very true about songwriting cause i have said it is not always the beat that makes the song but its the harmony's and story that take it especially in pop and R&b were i fell my music should be. And your also right about self confidence which for years i have always had trouble with and just not in music but other parts of my life such as social anxiety. And i know i gotta push this aside if i want to make connects and be able to work with people of all different personality's. But this mediatech school should put me in the real world situations of making good songs and working with people so i can only hope and trust in this to be the best thing for me to do cause i am obviously not doing anything with my music right now. I can't say that im making excuses for my self but I just want to start doing things right when i show my work with the best techniques, theory, arranging, mixing and mastering. First impressions are the best and i just don't want to thorw stuff out there and not be 100% sure if its good, i wanna know that its a for sure hit or good song. I just truly believe good things will come for those who wait and but it is also hard to do when i know it will be a long time till i see my fully potential or even get a radio song.

Success does not come with good songs. Success is built from marketing. Nobody cares if a song is good. More people being exposed to something is all that matters. This is because so many people have so many opinions, that you can't please everyone. Therefore, more exposure = more people who would potentially like what you have to offer get a chance to see it. Think of the radio. You could make literally anything popular by playing it on the radio everyday since so many people listen to the radio. Don't learn to make beats, just learn how to connect. I have seen the worst djs and producers ever get success and make money.

I used to think making quality would get people to pay attention to you, but society favors a lack of quality nowadays. The general public prefers to experience things in a degraded capacity. Small Phone Videos/Games, Terrible quality Youtube videos, Low bitrate MP3s etc. People are lazy, and they don't appreciate high quality for the most part since they don't even know the difference. All you really have is like a ten second attention span to appeal to.

There is so much content nowadays that we are living in an age of over-information. There is so much content that it's less about finding the content, and more about filtering out the trash to stuff you want and like. That's why the most valuable resource nowadays is people's attention. So get out there bro.

yea it's all about the exposure, and getting your music to the people who wan't to hear it, I would and will always say never give up. keep it going till the end even if it goes NO WHERE, if your having fun and love what you do, than do it.

Much thanks guys. Yeah i do gotta get out and connect with the right people but getting the people to actually show humbleness is hard too. Any i just gotta get the thumb out my a** and find a good market and good campaign going. Clearly youtube, myspace, facebook, soundclicks, craigslist are good for online stuff but what other ways are not really thought of.

alot of things have changed since i wrote this post about quiting but i guess i was just down at the time of not coming up with anything good but now starting to come along. I have moved to houston and in three months i will be going to audio school at mediatech and untill then i am taking piano classes once a week with a great tutor and i have already improved much. D major | Kostnadsfri musik, turnédatum, foton, videos i made quit a few new songs as well my girl, bang, till my heat stops and a couple more but the ones listed were after taking a few piano lessons and from being blazed up or drunk, lol just my way to get loose some times. But anyways i like to thank everyones support and giving me advice and will keep on pushing for that next level and rep what i am and rep it for all other producers on the grind.

mos def homie neva quit practice makes perfect i was in the same boat you was but the way you gotta see it is if theres a market for weak ass beats like vans but they look like sneakers trust me theres a market 4 every one remember its a 50 /50 ur beat has to b at least 50% good the other 50% the artist has to bring it to the plate n rip it ya dig keep it up homie n neva give up

I know how you feel. Maybe you need a new direction. What I've been dealing with is that I've grown tired of making stuff that nobody hears.. I work to make my stuff and then shop it out to people to try to get placed but no success so far. Maybe find an artist to develop your music with. That way you have a project you are working on and people will hear and like it.

youve been it To Long dont quit but find something else to do (i dont like ur beats to simple well whats on your myspace)

Man you as well as everybody can do anything if you put your mind to it. All you need is persistance, consistance, and patience. I'm 19 when I first started at 15 I sucked baddddd trying to be like Pharrell. Then I started making 10 beats a day and gotten beyond a skill thats crazy. You can become the hottest producer in the world bro just keep at it and have some confidence.

PASSION - PERSISTANCE - PATIENCE! Stick to that and you'll be good to go!

It all depends on what you want to do with your music. I love music, I love to make music, I love the satisfaction of having a finished song/beat. It feels ****ing good man. But at the end of the day I know I'll probably just be a bedroom producer. I'm ok with that, mostly because I love to do it, even if I don't make money, or get famous or anything. Who knows? Maybe I will one day.

Keep at it if you think it's fun. Otherwise, if you're having a bad time making music, stop then. Do what you want.
