thinking of quiting beatmaking.

Just be completely honest with yourself, you gotta love doing this. You're far too concerned about 'making it'... and not actually enthusiastic about the possiblity of making it, aka making it with something you absolutely love.. If you're passionate and determined, anything is truly possible, and without the passion (which is your driving force to improve your skills everyday, and fuels your creativity) I doubt you will ever make it.. and if you accidently do, you'll still be unstatisfied.

So yea, I'm not forcing you to follow what I say but I suggest to be harshly honest and true to yourself, and find out exactly what you wanna do, and not just for the sake of making big money.
 
I do love it when i get in that zone were everthing comes together and time flies in the mater of minutes,so i know i do love it. And yall are most likely right about worrying about making it. Like i said i am my own worst critic and usually worry about not getting were i wanna be fast. But i know for sure i havent reached my full potential and thats what keeps me grinding and not giving up and just giving it up. Sure there are so many better producers that say there not satisfied either just because they hear super producers on the radio. But as of now i am moving forward and moving to houston to mediatech audioschool were hopefully something just happens to me were my hidden talents come out or working with other producers will generate the sound i be searching for.
 
I think what's making your confidence low is that you're comparing yourself to other people. Don't do that, concentrate on what you have to do and not what the next man is doin.
 
Man don't quit just because you think someone is better than you or you don't think your good enough. Do it for the love of music. I just started making beats recently and im not doing it for the intentions of being famous or being a superstar producer. Im doing it for the love of the game.
 
Its all about your drive. if you really want it like most producers, you will do anything in your will to become the person you want to be. Period!
 
your beats are good keep up the good work. u got to keep putting yourself out there and doing all that u can to get noticed by big names. open a youtube account post beats, i see u already got myspace up. youtube helps a lot of people start getting followers.

I have to agree with Hakim, to become a good beatmaker you have to understand how to "make music". You have to study it like a science, understand what makes a beat sound good ... know your chord progressions ... work on being creative ...


One thing i've been doing recently is producing solo piano songs. I'm reading up piano composition theory and i feel that thats helping me improve my keyboard skills.

i agree w/ what every1 else is saying: IF U LOVE IT, JUST DO IT!

go back 2 those times when u were a teen. do u remember ur ambition 4 producing? how much u loved it n was dreaming about being n a recording studio? 4 me, personally, im 15 right now, n i love producing so much i cant picture myself doing anything else n the future. did u have these same feelings? this is something 2 be taken seriously, so dont be afraid 2 b honest and think long n hard bcuz this can ultimately affect the rest of your life. i mean, dont throw it all away bcuz of what the other guys doing, that should b another reason 4 you 2 try even harder each day. i understand, you want 2 do "better than good enough," but n order 2 do that u have 2 ask yourself "how bad do i want it?" learn another instrument and listen 2 another genre of music 2 add that special something into your instrumentals. just DO WORK and DO YOU, you have the same chances of making it a career as any1 else does. ive found when i appreciate n love my beats they've been much more easier 2 create, and now i have a new level of confidence.

I almost gave up one time when I listened to a friend of mine's tracks. this was years ago. What I did was stop worrying about the next person's beats and did my own thing. I swear to you no lie, within months I was much better than him, and I had industry ready beats.. his were still dark and underground sounding.If you're in it for the love of music, it doesn't matter what others think... However if you're in this for the money, I suppose you'll have to continue to make beats and eventually, your turn will come...But after mine!
 
I seem to non stop makng pretty good beats after i see beat making videos or listening to new hot tracks. I guess its like a motavation to get better than what i heard but even tho it doesnt come out that way i gues i cant force it. If you have listened to my music i am more of a pop mixed hip hop beatmaker even tho i wanna be a bad ass rap producer but my sound comes naturally and i like it. I guess i can only be me and just leave the hot rap to the people that do it best.

I feel the same way my man. It's hard to force any type of style when your heart's not in it. Music should be a representation of yourself. Only you can define what music you make. In time, you'll learn to master your craft and eventually explore other paths. You can do both pop mix and rap as well. It's all up to you. All it takes is hard work.
 
Yeah I am not seeing the issue...listened to some of the beats and they sound really good to me.
 
I dont kno D Major, but alot of them tracks were hot, Ur shit sounds better than mine imo, so imagine how u makin me feel hahah? Wack... But i **** wit some of them, dont stop.

this is the producer that made me feel like i sucked and i told him that listening to his beats made me wanna quit and he said " were all doing the same thing but we just got different styles".

This dude is truly talented and i guess that talent wasnt given to me but i still can develop the skill to be almost as good.His mom is a gospel singer,cousin church gospel player,cousin singer and artist,so music is just in his blood. He has never had any piano training or anything.

well i do think my beats are just okay but im just not satisfied in how much more they can be. Progressions,scales, theory is a must to actuallyto see if my skills will step up to another level. And i know that the beat isnt is as important as clever songwriting that brings the beat alive. So a good songwriter is what i will need too cause i dont got the words but can sometimes tell how harmonize should go.
 
Man Just because He doing so well doesn't mean that you wont get at that level. You just gotta promote your ten time harder than that guy and start PICKING HIS BRIAN. Find out what he knows and all you can from that guy. YOU ARE AS GOOD AS THE COMPANY YOU KEEP. Cheers.

I worked 3 jobs trying to get money to go to music school and when I finally did I was like "WOW" I suck compared to all these guys. And here I was thinking I was going to be the next Timbo or Premier...lol..I laugh now but then I was down and was going to quit, but you know what I had a great teacher that said there is so many areas in the music business other than producing so you can go over the wall, around the wall or walk away quiter! I was like wow that was harsh, but it made me push harder. I changed my focus to engineering instead and now I work at a studio doing what I love. I still make beats on the side (I also play piano) but I know that I will never be Timbo and that's okay. So take what your good at and go from there you never know what road it will take you down. Dreams can change......but your desire shouldn't.

wow dedication! respect homie i understand what u mean. i be at my 9-5 humming a beat in my head and aloud ppl be lookin at me like im crazy sumtimes lol always studying,learning,asking questions
 
seriously thinking about taking major piano theory and lessons head on and just become a full fledged musician and take a break from the beatmaking for now. i willl be attending mediatech institution this march and hopefully everything will come together in time with hard work. Not to excited about music theory or just reading music but if i become real good at it and read other songs i guess it will give me ideas how other people structered there songs and will give me ideas. I truly believe i have some chararistics as a decent producer well beatmaker not producer yet, but there is just something that i gotta acheive. Idk maybe it could be mastering most of piano and theory or just working in a real producer situation were pressure is on me to make a good beat and come up with ideas for a song. I agree about skllls being just as good as talent with enough hard work and non stop grinding to be better than the next dude but with out the proper skill its gonna take time.
