like deranged said radio is almost like it is in da 90's. overrall i would say hip-hop is better. cuz you got more options, now you dont need a whole bunch of money to go to da studio and make a money. so that person that may have not been able to make a track in da 90's can make a decent sounding track in a hood studio for $15 a hour. (maybe not da best quality) but he could pay more if he has it. then he could put it for free download, now how many people will hear it is another thing but the playing field is more even than before.

^^^What's going on? The same thing that made the Supremes bigger than the Vandellas regardless of which group was actually better?

The same thing that made popular urban groups in the 50s disquise their ethnicity?

This ain't new. It's the business of selling records. That's what's gone on since someone first found a way to turn profit off music. Do i need to explain that Beethoven wasn't as great as other composers who didn't shine until after their death, but popularity makes him the biggest name in Classical music and comes with the myth that he actually composed anything worthwhile while deaf?

What do you think all this means, you know something I don't on the matter apparently.

Please tell the Beethoven story. You can't mention something like that and leave us hanging. lol

Thank you Deranged for ****ting on these idiots in my absent. I'm tired of these youngsters commenting on a time in Hip-Hop they probably weren't even around to see. That's like me commenting on how hard it was in the 40s' when I wasn't even a spec in my father's prepubescent ball sack.

I don't think hip hop is dead. If anything, there's limitless amounts of new hip hop you can find if you dig hard enough through the internet. You don't need to sign to a major label to finally be heard anymore. I remember when it was awesome to finally get my own music onto a cd to play in the car - now its like nothing. A dude from Finland can download my mp3 5 seconds after I upload it - amazing.

I think its natural if you are deeply into something to root for it to be victorious. Its disappointing that the ones who get to be seen everywhere that waive the flag of hip hop are the shallowest, most contrived cookie cutters. If you are a wine connessiour, its probably sad to find your snob wine is absent from the local Piggly Wiggly (but that Franzia box **** is always there!). Deranged is right - things are just taking the natural course as a business model. The average consumer doesn't really care how "authentic" something is. A crate-digging, passionate "head" is not who comprises of the lion share of record buyers. This holds true for all music genres though and has always been like this. The best is when you have artists that appeal to the masses, but still garner the respect of the hardened music nerds.

In a nutshell(some of this may be a little off, so research for yourself).
Beethoven was a composer molded since childhood. He was a 3rd generation musician. His family were already established(like the Jacksons of classical). He practically was given an audience. Had aids who pampered him and helped as he wrote his works, all types of assistants(like Dre or Timbo with all their keyboardists)and the end result was an overappraised product of the late 1700s. Classical listeners of today tend to have mixed opinions of Beethovens work. Most find it bland and can find references in his works to alot of earlier better material(in lamens terms, he was bytin other artists styles).

He suffered "hearing loss" since around 30(ringing in his ears, ect.)from an STD. But could hear. Needed no assistance from ear horns and stuff until right before his death when he was writing horrible peices that relied on the talents if the symphonies that played for him. Most of these were "revamped earlier pieces of his works with new working titles"(like after "It's going down" by Yung Joc, all of Nitti's sh*t started sounding the same).

They made it seem like he was a deaf composer to make him more godlike and expand his audience of listeners who were amused because of him being deaf rather than by his music.

Again, that's all just from the top of my head, so I may be off a little, but pretty damn close.

Point being, the biggest name in classical is Beethoven. No one peeps Mendolsohn, Leif, Vivaldi(well some peep vivaldi), Crane, Haydn, Purce, Scarlatti...I'm not even sure I've spelled half those names right, lol. But if you "turned off the radio" in the 1700s, you'd know Beethoven isn't close to good classical music.

Hip Hop is very much alive and it's not like things have been any different from recent memory. What you consider good Hip Hop is a matter of preference. While you might think a song is corny and an artist sucks, a bunch of other people think they're great.

There is good hip hop around whether you like deep/intelligent lyrics or club bangers/catchy songs. It's all very much available. The catchy/pop like songs are of course getting more exposure because they bring more revenue. These types of songs attract the average consumer and in return increase profit. This is not just a hip hop thing, it's the same with other genres.

Radio and TVs are businesses with revenue in mind just like and other profit based business. They play what's requested the most by the consumers. The majority of the consumer market for music is made up of people who just like a song with good rhythm and catchy lyrics. They don't give a damn about the depth of the lyrics.

Also, things change, innovation is a very important part of evolution. You can't expect everyone to be similar to the Wu-Tang or Tupac or Biggie. Now, we have a much bigger variety of hip hop music to choose from. Focus on what's attractive to you and don't waste your time worrying about what you don't like. At the end of the day, people just want to have fun...We can all have fun...

reading those pretty ricky lyrics made me wanna throw my computer out the window. i think my goldfish could write better lyrics than that. the problem is that the majority of the population is musically stupid, so artists need to dumb down their material if they want to sell. OR equally stupid artists end up going platinum. back in the day though, the psychadelic era, everybody was dropping acid and smoking weed. so artists like hendrix, the beatles, zeppelin, pink flloyd, they all got major radio play. the solution=legalize weed goddamit. half joking half serious.

reading those pretty ricky lyrics made me wanna throw my computer out the window

then dont read their lyrics. i aint even heard dat song on da radio so you definetly not forced to listen to it, he could've easily compared cream to something by a lyrical artist but he chose pretty ricky. wayne says stupid **** n would've been a better comparison don't take this **** serious

so whats your point? pretty ricky is still wack. thats why he compared them, dummy. i aint agreeing with the articles perspective, i simply observed the wackness of the lyrics, i read them cause they were part of the article, not cause i spend my time reading pretty ricky lyrics. way to miss my point

Man..I haven't listened to the radio in years (except for 102.1 Magic, they play those classic oldies).
