Good read..I have auto respect for anyone who reconizes wu-tang as hiphop optima-primus. Unfortunatley this article some what perpetuates one of the reasons hiphop has declined...EVERYTHING is considered hiphop now. Its the new term for the pigeonholing "black music" catagory of old.

Now I know that there are those who will say hiphop is art and covers a gradation of sounds and they are right. But one can scream foul when some of the more pop or dance oriented songs/albums/artist are used to create certain hip hop barometers. Anyways Wu Tang and other artist of that ilk, drop albums every year and no one bats an eye. So far U-Gods "Dopium" is the hottest hiphop single/album of the year....I dare anyone to prove me wrong.

I felt the same way. It's a good read but Pretty Ricky isn't hip-hop.

If you think that I’m right then don’t buy the crap out there!

On the flip side, support the artists out there who are making something you care about.

There lies the hypocrisy. There are those, like Jason Rosenbaum, who attempt to speak for all commercial consumers by giving "good music" an identity, other than the the identity, that each individual consumer chooses to identify good music as. Although to some extent I agree with Mr.Rosenbaum, this article come across as offensive and is obviously written from his perspective (a traditionalist perspective). If a consumer enjoys a Pretty Ricky album and decides to support them, in the words of Jason Rosebaum, that consumer is contributing to the destruction of Hip-Hop by supporting music that, under the Rosenbaum standard, is void of artistic value of any kind.

Things are not that complicated. If you enjoy a certain type of music...support it. There is no need to complain about the current state of Hip-Hop when YOU have the power to listen to whatever pleases YOU.

How did we go from this:

2Pac - Brenda's Got A Baby
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wl54ABY8VgY

to

Kid Cudi - Poke Her Face
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJ9pl4sKC3c

This is what our kids and us have to listen to on the radio these days. WTF? Have anybody really listened to the lyrics of Poke Her Face. Imagine your little kid, niece, or nephew sitting in the car listening to this shyt. I feel the sincerity of 2Pac's message

Man your right. What has Hip-Hop come to? The lyrics have become so degrading. I feel sorry for our kids. Music now is nothing like music when we came up.

Is it safe to be honest with ourselves now? Music in the late 80s' early 90s' had it's fair share of hyper sexual imagery and degrading lyrics. I dare to say music back then went further over the top.

Thanks. Somebody understands.

"Real" hip-hop still exists but I think people are just mad that their preferred type of hip-hop isn't what is being marketed as mainstream music.
