Another option is drum synth programs, like Hammerhead. They have presets, but like a synthesizer, everything is completely editable so you can make hundreds of drum sounds that are totally YOUR OWN. This really only applies for clubby-type rap music... and electronic. If you want gritty, natural sounding drums, I suggest recording your own. I don't even play drums but I bought a drum kit just to sample from. I will let Cool Edit record and I'll just sit there and bang on the thing, hitting every part of it from every angle. Oh and remember that "drum sounds" don't have to be drums at all. If you have a mic, try beatboxing. Any noise at all can be used for drums... I mean look at Prefuse73!
