Welcome to the Yamaha HS fam .

Yeah man I was at Guitar Center demo'ing them with the assistant, it was funny how our expressions changed from Mackie to Yamaha...

ALOT of squinting goin on when my mixes went from smooth as silk on the Mackies to harsh and coarse as sandpaper on the Yamahas

But good for referencing Hip-Hop on a hi-fi (wanna be) system without the sub.

Whatever, there are better monitors. Actually, ask any serious engineer and they will tell u the NS10s are popular just like Pro Tools is,just because they are everywhere. Not because of any actual merit. And that was told to me by a Grammy winning mastering eng.

There are better choices IMHO than those, but...

What defines a serious engineer? lol People use them for different reasons also, yea they are everywhere....Pro Tools is everywhere....MPC 3ks and 2500's are everywhere too. They are popular, but don't think that the ONLY reason people use them is on a fad.

Actually it's a fad that works...If you like them and know what you doing.

But to put ur mind at ease the HS80s are totally different monitors...

do you guys think the producers on PMP that have really good mixes do the mixing themselves... or have engineers do it for them???

Troup, or whoever may know,

I thought the tracks were given random numbers in the track dump, so as to prevent name-biased selection?

Someone drop knowledge.

That's right to an extent, when you upload a track on PMP it's given a number. On your profile only you can see your number (incase you wanna see if you can find your stuff on the featured music page :D )

I saw a video of a buyer (i think someone from dipset) looking through submissions and im pretty sure it had the producers names next to the tracks.

Its easy to get a great mix with good monitors and a controlled environment. Also good plug ins and sounds to beging with help immensly (sounds are #1) as well.

Hmmm, yeah I'm wondering if the Track Dump is a bunch of random numbers

or

actual Producer XXX - Name Of Beat

type of listings.

Sorry, but that couldn't be any further than the truth. "Better" is typically subjective, and there is NO piece of gear more subjective than monitors. And any "serious" engineer is going to use what works for them. Pre- and post-"the ProTools" era. You'll see NS10ms offered in most commercial studios because that's what many engineers have wanted over the years. Nobody's making anyone use MPCs, PT, or NS10ms, they use them because they work for them. Period. This isn't high school, so "fads" aren't involved. Just like F-150s are everywhere. There are plenty of choices so it's not like you HAVE to drive an F-150, or use NS10ms.

Browse articles from Mix, SOS, EM, EQ, etc., and you'll see quite a few "serious", Grammy winning engineers who swear by those famous monitors. There's a thought: they use them because they want to use them, not because they're popular.
Peace

When you submit a song, the person reviewing the song can go to your page and listen to your other songs... if they want to.

FF to about 1:50. You get a real good close up of what the OTHER side of the Track Dump function looks like.

Watch this vid. Towards the end he shows a close up of what the actual track dump screen looks like. It's listed by producer (and picture), name of beat, and the play button.

A lot of people are. I mean it is really about convenience, its convenient for them, its convenient for us as producers. While, they can just call up the big name producers, Im sure that at least 2-3 of the tracks on anyones album are budget placements, meaning get a noname, or a near noname and save some money, everyones gonna download the hot single anyway, and not buy the album.

they have genres like electronica, pop, rock etc.
Is there a Drum and Bass category or is it just lumped in with electronica?

Thanks for the excellent video, Troup.

i think i also figured out that after you submit a track, when you take that track to the track dump again, if it still shows "track submitted" then the track is still there being reviewed, but if it gives you the option to 'submit this track' again then you've been deleted from the listener's list of beats. does that make sense? i'm pretty sure that's what's going on
