show up your studio set up

priorities, my man...well that and the fact that i've accumulated my music equipment for over 10 years, biked my behind all througout undergrad in college and refused to get a girlfriend in place of buying music equipment. Why should she get taken out to dinner when I can use that 100 bucks towards that elusive Roland Space Echo?

Hehehe....

I understand the hustle...big power to all you guys who have that hunger. :)

I see nice gear and everything in many setup but everybody is so unorganised , som gear here there messy space ,strange configuration ,for me i got to have easy access to all my gear on my fingertip and a good quality chair is an obligation , have you seen any pro studio with the board here and the computer screen there ???there is a kind of ergonomical importance into your setup.

I see that yamaha cs1x there...hell yeah! I thought I was the only one with that old thing...

Trendsetter, you really shouldn't knock how other people work, or how their setups are unlike "pro" studios. My setup is definitely ergonomically layed out for how I work, and my mess fits my personality. I only record projects here that I'm producing, so I don't have to worry about "impressing" the clients with the cleanliness and wow factor. People who come here to work with me (and yes bigger artists too) LOVE the vibe - that they can get a great sound in a laid back place, start to finish, mix included. Most pro studios to me are too clean and too static. You feel afraid to make a mess or get comfortable. Many artists get stiff in those kind of situations - they feel like they are "on the clock". People come here and feel at home, and their performances reflect that. You won't see a board here because I mix completely in the box in Pro Tools - so yea, my computer screen is there and my board is nowhere.

and yo stars, I LOVE my CS1x. I don't use the sounds anymore but i like it as a controller for some reason. It was the first keyboard I ever bought!

So you must be a massy person and i dont care i am a more than serious producer and its the third studio im building right now and i alway try to improve my configuration and be more confortable to do what i love the most ,MAKE MUSIC .For what you sed about "pro studio" you maybe right but anyway most of the best track post production has been done in a home studio somewhere and the finished in a bigger professional studio to have that pro sound simply becose they got a prfessional setup and an optimal configuration for acoustique and ect

Yeah sorry for my english but im french!
What is a grasp ?WHat do you mean? As far as i know its tha way most "hits" are done you know black eyed pea ! have you seen there studio setup where they made a multi million selling album ,for sure it as been reworked in a BIG studio when they got signed by a major ?

Ok sorry about the language difficulties. I just want you guys to know that you DON'T need to be in a huge studio to do major label work. We have cut and mixed several major label projects here that have been very successful, including half of the Nina Sky album (including some of the tracking for 'Move Ya Body' and the entire 2nd single 'Turnin Me On'), the "Frontin'" dancehall remix that was on the Def Jamaica album, and the final mixdown of Moby's next single featuring Public Enemy. These are finished, delivered masters we are talking about, not rough demos. Don't get me wrong, if I didn't have Pro Tools HD and a couple of grand worth of acoustic treatment, I would never be able to pull that off, but different strokes for different folks!

Here is my BASIC setup. Im only 14 working with an allowance and birthday money(lol).
Dell Dimension 4500 yada yada
Roland Fantom S88
Stanton st8 turntable (im sampled based)
Akai Mpc 1000(selling and probaly wont to cop some kind of rack sound module, or maybe even a mpc2000xl)
FL Studio
Ableton Live 4.0
Bx5 Monitors
More Vinyl than you can think about 4 crates full
Getting:
Like I said maybe a MPc200xl( I know I have the fantom but I like having options)
Audiophile 2496 card
And that is it. I know it is basic but it dont amtter what you have but how you use it(am i right)? one love

as for right now its nothing speical..

COMP:
P4 1.7 GHz
521 MB of RAM
75.5 GB
'stock' soundcard lol
srx-310 comp speakers

squire fat strat
Squier amp
DOD fx bord
(dont really use this)

SOFT:
Reason 2.5
Fruityloops 4.5.1
Goldwave
CM plusins
Sample Tank
some VST's cant think of the names right now
refills and soundbanks for reason

WILL BE GETTING:
either a microkontroller or the akia pads and a 61key midi controller
monitors (not sure what kind)
new soundcard
new comp.

extra harddrive for just samples and vst's
custom desk
thats it i think

Yeah those chairs are expensive, I sat in one I wasnt too crazy about it.

I would rather take that thousand and buy gear with it, and sit on milk crates.
:D

I bought mine for $250. The MSRP price is insane, just find some company that's closing around town and go to one of their auctions. Tech companies buy loads of these things.

One has to fiddle with the various adjustments to get them comfortable, and even then, they're designed pretty well for good posture, proper ergonomics, and any ergonomic workspace specialist (like a RSI-focused physical therapist) will tell you that if you end up sitting in a chair like an Aeron, that's configured well, and you're uncomfortable, it's because one is not used to sitting with proper posture, not because the chair is bad.

My first three days or so with the Aeron reminded me of time I'd spent with school teachers telling me to stop slouching -- unless I sat upright it wasn't so nice. Now that I'm sitting proper, I can spend hours there and never move, and I know I won't be aching from doing that in another 10 years.
