Buying a synth is a bit like buying fast food, or toilet paper, or xmas decorations, or, well, you get the picture. Buying a synth is like buying anything else.
If I see super-gentle three ply toilet paper in a store and I think the price is reasonable for the luxury of having that extra layer of softness I buy it, likewise if someone shows you the JP8000 and tells you, you can have it for $x.xx and you would mindn't paying $x.xx for the luxury of owning the synth, by all means. Buy it.
Btw. Do you guys buy your synths by mail-order or something? Surely you don't get something that costs as much without trying it out first, unless its a bargain off of ebay or something, in which case you can just check out the user reviews on the synth your intending to buy on

As a sideline, I do know someone that bought a
a JP8000 and manages to produce virtually any sound, including nice bass with it. But thats the thing... With a respected synth such as the JP8000, Virus, SNII etc you can do just about anything. Even some of the lesser known bottom range synths can do great stuff.
Just look at the price, listen to the sound and decide if it's worth the cash.
