I'm seriously thinking about picking one up........all the reviews of it have sounded great but just wanted to see if anyone had any additional input.......keep in mind, it's my first synth......I know it's not the best one out but for the price tag and ease of use, it looks good. any opinions?

there is this "digital click" people mentionned many times.. BUT it is definitly a nice synth for the price(its cheap right?)

If you pick one, get it for cheap, second hand.
take care!

i think the jp8000 is nice to have at your list of equipment.. but for your first synth i wouldn't recommend it.

The main thing i like about this synth are the strings, i use my jp only for the strings but they rock !
personally i think the strings from the jp sound a little better than the strings from the supernova 2(but hey that's my opinion).

Furthermore this synth is rather limited like it has 8 polyphony and is bitimbral, it also has no reverb.

If you look into some studio pictures you see that some artists who uses a jp are :

Rank - 1
Ferry Corsten
Blank and Jones

etc.

greetings..

A popular band like Faithless too...

Personally, when I got my JP8000, I was crazy about the machine - but in comparison to newer machines like the Virus series or the Supernova II, that babe sounds a little too light. I discussed this already a few times on this forum
( hi again, Christian !! :hello: ).

But don't worry, it's still a pioneer of VA-synths, and a beautiful piece to have !! :)

I won't sell mine !!

Buying a synth is a bit like buying fast food, or toilet paper, or xmas decorations, or, well, you get the picture. Buying a synth is like buying anything else.

If I see super-gentle three ply toilet paper in a store and I think the price is reasonable for the luxury of having that extra layer of softness I buy it, likewise if someone shows you the JP8000 and tells you, you can have it for $x.xx and you would mindn't paying $x.xx for the luxury of owning the synth, by all means. Buy it.

Btw. Do you guys buy your synths by mail-order or something? Surely you don't get something that costs as much without trying it out first, unless its a bargain off of ebay or something, in which case you can just check out the user reviews on the synth your intending to buy on www.harmony-central.com

As a sideline, I do know someone that bought a a JP8000 and manages to produce virtually any sound, including nice bass with it. But thats the thing... With a respected synth such as the JP8000, Virus, SNII etc you can do just about anything. Even some of the lesser known bottom range synths can do great stuff.

Just look at the price, listen to the sound and decide if it's worth the cash.

Some people love it....some people hate it. Personally, I love mine - Yes it does have some problems - the afore mentioned digital click (supposably a 'feature' on shortest VCA attack setting so u can get organ key click sounds - bull****) and it is a little thin - but thats because each sound isn't washed in a mass of FX and EQ - the onboard fx are simple and the EQ consits of a single bass gain control and a treble gain control.

I wouldn't want it as my only synth because It falls short in the department of LEAD type sounds and anything really WHOOOOOMPPPPH in the bass area. But gorgeous pads flow out of this baby, thick filter sweeps that just make you go 'ooooooooooooh'. Thats predominantly what I use mine for.

BT loves it. Plaid love it. Faithless love it. Hybrid love it. Orbital ......i could go on.

I had the luxury of borrowing a buddies JP-8000 for a couple of weeks, and I loved it. Any of you guys have experience with the JP-8080's vocoder? I'm thinking of picking up a JP-8000, but I already have a Nord Lead 1, so I figure I can just use the Nord to control the 8080, and take advantage of the vocoder, and also the cheaper price of the 8080.

Are there any software synthesizers that emulate the Roland JP-8000?

SuperWave P8 looks like a punk

Where do I even buy a JP-8000 hardware? I can't find it on sweetwater or zzounds?

they've been discontinued for quite a while now, you can find them at ebay and some pawn shops
the SH-201 has the supersaw and feedback waveforms, but I'm not sure how they measure up versus the JP

There's hardly any JP-8000s on EBay! And given that there are only 1 or 2 on for auction, I'd still feel skeptical about its condition with so few options to choose from ... Lots of synthesizers are discontinued but still widely available. Why is the JP so rare. It's not that ancient. I'd still consider it a recent product (2002?) .............

Apparently this one is on sale but "took a hit to 3 keys". "Plays fine, but just feels wonky"

maybe you could read about it a little bit

and then search ebay and pick one of the 5 that come up instantly

and then quit posting fake questions about it
