he wasn't man enough???

im listenin to all that top 100 billboard tracks (year 2000) right now

- Say my Name - Destiny's Child (pos.6)
- Toni Braxton - He wasnt man enough (pos.10)

2 songs where you can say after 5 seconds that its a track made by Rodney Jerkins.....

but its really sad that im not hearing him on new albums......i think hes even better that timbo and storch together (no hate)........

i understand wat Mangomixx369 is saying. His stuff was original n he had his own sound (like Timbaland does). Yeh he still does make the occasional hot song, but imo the the problem with darkchild's music now is that he lacks originality and follows trends of other producers - he doesnt really have a real distinctive sound any more other than that he always has hard kicks

Did he really ever have a distinct sound? The reason I liked his stuff and bought anything I could get my hands on from him was cuz his work sounded like a modernized version of New Jack (Teddy Riley's sound). Like the NewJack version of R&B songs, except they were the album version OEM.

I still think for me his pinnacle was Brandy's Full Moon album. That thing is classic. I understand what Mangomixx369 is saying I guess. His stuff NOW, doesn't have the same impact. Like "what was that??? I gotta cop that... that track is insane!"

But I do think he's still doing good work. I think as fans of Darkchild.. our expectations are too high. No one stays on top forever. He made his impact, and still contributes to the industry today.

PS. Didn't one of the Underdogs work under him for a while? Maybe he took the magic with him , cuz I'm def feeling 99% of what they pump out now.

I'm not a big Rodney Jerkins fan at all..But i don't know what dude is talking about. He has some good hits. He didn't fall off at all.

He fell of yeah, Say My Name was one of his dopest tracks, just sick
and the Tearra Mari joint in 2005(Stay In Ya Lane) was sick too, but the new stuff is definatly not up to par

Yeah Harvey Mason Jr worked for him, but the Underdogs team have split up, and the guys who were really behind all the hits are doin their own thing now. Therefore you might still hear some of the songs they completed prior to leaving, or you might hear new ones from the other guys and think its the Underdogs because they have the same sound.

But anyway, Rodney aint fell off. His production on Avants last album was sick, Destiny Childs last album, some on Beyonce, and I dont even like Mary but he gave her a hot track on her last studio album. Just because stuff doesnt get released as singles doesnt mean someone has fell off talent-wise. His sound is better now than it ever was.....I cant even listen to most his 90's stuff now b/c it sounds so dated.

his fans seem pretty picky. i thought the shareefa song "I Need A Boss" was dope!!

Rodney 'Darkchild' JERKINS, is the MOFO MAN!
Dude has mad skillz on the keys ( serious pianist and organist ).
thats my DAWG!

Huh.. When did the underdogs split up?

The guys who did all the good U-dog stuff all left. That would be Tank, Eric Dawkins, Tony Dixon etc. Harvey Mason Jr. & Damon Thomas are technically the 'Underdogs', and get all the credit, but the other guys did most of the work.

As I said, they did so many tracks, that most of the stuff you hear still is from when they were there. St. Nick is a beast though....so they'll be ok.

Eric & Tony formed their own label called Anonymous Ent. If you listen to the two tracks on Tyreses album, "Morning After" and "Better THan Sex", you will hear they are the ones who created the U-Dogs sound themselves. Those two tracks are killer by the way.

How is that proof that they did? Couldn't they just be swagger jacking it?

nah man, theres plenty of people in the industry that I've heard say that Eric and Tony are the originators of that Underdog "sound". Especially being the fact that Eric does the famous Underdog vocal arrangements as well as singing the background vocals. I thought Harvey and Damon were behind it all since they get all the credit but a friend who interned there told me the same thing.

Harvey is a great engineer & is the key in the great mixes and overall sound they get. Damon is obviously a great piano player, but I think he and Tony shared that load when it came to that.

Sort of burst my balloon a little bit....lol

Trust me dawg, I only know of one other person who is a big of an Underdog fan as myself.

Garbage post.

If you cant listen to "Lose My Breath" and not be impressed, I hope you yourself are not a producer.

None of that old stuff he did w/ the exception of Brian McKnight "Stay Or Let It Go" still sounds fresh today.

HAHAHA.."Lose My Breath"? Impressive? i seriously think that is such a wack ass track. i know we got our opinions but that **** was farrr from some real **** he could do.

um, Deja vu may be a weak song, but the beat itself is one of the most diverse I've heard in a while.

The next Quincy Jones? Get out of here. He's a good producer with a respectable amount of work under his belt, but he's not a legend. If you obsess about him and have espectations for him to be a hall of famer, you're setting yourself up for a disapointment.

I did that with Xzibit, thought he was gonna be the next....****, i dunno, jay-z. Talented dude, had mainstream appeal, good flow and sick beats behind him, but he never really went anywhere.

Bump the shyt you love from his catolouge (spelling) and enjoy what he's done. I think I'm gonna go blast some "you rock my world" in a minute.
