OK Ive voted Full Sail out...THANKS YALL. Now....theres:

Berklee, which I have questions about after researching: Getting In: I read over the aduition stuff and it seems a bit uhh...elaborate. PLUS ITS FOUR YEARS I can play the whole Fur Elise. But i dont read on the spot very well and i can play enough by ear (I guess) The audition makes me nervous. And does anyone know if they go over protools?

LA SRA is still kool. I mean...I still like that one

and SAE is up there too

and conservatory...people keep mentioning good things about it but its just not rubbing me right. lol and that location is just UGH.

I just need a lil more advise. What am i missing to consider?

PS Sorry for double...oops i mean triple posting lol.

Well I don't know how long you have played or what level your at so I'll just let you know how my audition and interview went.

First came the interview, basically one on one with the staff, mine happened to be one of the directors of the scholarship office (kinda gay guy no lie lol). He was cool, basically asked why I want to go to Berklee, my major and why I chose it. Let me knew right off the bat MP&E is the hardest major to get into only being 1 out of 3 students are accepted into the program. I showed him a couple awards I got from recitals and showed him pictures of my studio and a CD of most of my good stuff and kind of gave him a portfolio of the achievements I have made as a inspiring music producer.

He played the CD just on his laptop and liked what he heard and asked to keep it. We talked about some of the gear I had and thought I knew a lot about the major as a good thing. So overall I think it went pretty well.

At the audition, was a definitely a little more nerve racking. I signed in and had to wait a good hour till I got called to audition. Finally I did and you are brought to a room so you can practice the sight readings or your prepared piece (Most definitely want to practice the sight readings lol). You only get 15 minutes so use it wisely. After that they brought me to the audition room.

I met with 2 other people, some middle age guy and lady. They seemed like dicks but I understand since they've probably listened to other people the whole entire day. I handed them the piece so they can follow along and played for them Fantasie Impromptu by Chopin memorized. They liked it and asked me to do a couple major scales. Then they tested my rhythm playing a single note in a certain sequence and had to play it back for them.

Then ear training, where they played a simple melody and had to play it back and then they played some chords, mostly major minor and 7th chords, sometimes they'd throw some sustains and augmented stuff in their. I made a couple mistakes in that no lie lol.

Then came the sight reading, they had 5 short maybe 8-12 measures pieces. They asked me to play 3 of them. One I couldn't do because they did not provide the bass clef and well never really practiced reading the chords from the top, but they said it was okay.

So now came the improvisation. They asked me to play a 12 bar blues. So I did and they seemed impressed. He asked me to play again and he played the drumset that was their and she accompanied with the piano and it was plain out jamming which was pretty fun. After I was done, just thanked them shook their hands and waited till I heard a decision lol.

hoped it helped, well it better, took a **** load of time to type lol.

yesiampretty,

u said drexel was hard to get into. do u mean grade wise or like everybody is tryin to get into the music program so u have a small chance. Im goin to their music camp this summer and next summer, which would maybe help my chances of getting in a 2 years. right now i have like a mid B average, 3.2 GPA. what did u get ur scholarship for?

this school would be perfect for me cuz im in philly so its close to home and everything ive heard about it is great so im really trying to get it. is there anything that i could do to like really help me get in or set me apart from other dudes gettin in? thanks

If you stay in the Atlanta area you can check out the following schools.

Omni Tech
SAE Atlanta
Art Institute of Atlanta
Georgia Tech
AIU: Buckhead(i start here in july of this year)

Nicole
Mobile-Motorola Q

the recording school in arizona i heard is one of the top ones. LARS sucks i went on a tour there once that thought they are really about the money and dont care about the kids at all. U dont get to use the Neve board they have and u dont get as much hands on experience like at SAE or the one in Arizona.

Well Drexel alone, is not the easiest school to get into. You need to have some decent grades. If yours is like a mid B 3.2 GPA you should be cool, my friend applied their for biology and had the same grades and got in. When I meant hard to get into I meant getting into the program. Why? Because they said in order for each student to get the necessary hands on training, they are forced to limit the entrance of the major. They said to give you the upper hand, you should already know some things about the major, have good grades, experience, and other things. I got the scholarship for grades (Honestly working really hard junior year paid off). So in your portfolio make sure you put 3-4 of your best songs in the cd, a nice resume, Even pictures of your home studio, anything you think can help.

But one thing you should do since your close...Take a tour of the school and the major, they have a Question and Answer session which covers ALOT of questions from over protective parents. One thing I did like, one of the parents asked, so if my son was to get into the program, I want to know a ratio on how many students get a job in the field after they graduate? And the guy was straight up on the answer with no lie and was like okay if you think this major is going to get you a good daily job, forget it, this is pretty much going to be a freelance job due to yatta yatta, I forgot long time ago lol. But the guy spoked the truth and I liked that. Plus the campus is SICK! lol

yeah this year as a sophmore i kinda slacked off. junior year im tryin my hardest and gettin at least high B's and A's straight.im goin to their music industry camp this summer, which i was accepted as well as 45 other kids out of a couple hundred. so ill take a ttour there when i go.

and this sounds kinda funny, but if i can get a major placement before i go to college, and then get that artist or manager or someone from the label to write me like a recommendation letter...that would be a big help i think to get it. idk just brainstorming. but thanks for the info

just do berklee online classes, their like a grand a pop, or cheaper if you live in Massachusetts (like me :))
