Someone has probably already mentioned it, but Mike Senior's Mixing Secrets for the Small Studio is hands down the best book I've read on mixing. It's a very well written guide to mixing and covers all the important stuff. Must read IMO.

Would you say this book is fit for beginners or is it more of a "get further" kind of book? :)

I dont know what production software to use to start out producing beats.. I am a total novice at everything pertaining to software and wonder what program would be best for me. Garageband doesn't seem to have any really hot sounds for hip hop music and when I try to manipulate the sounds they sound even worse. I have a mac and thats it so maybe someone can also give some knowledge about equipment I should buy also
Anyhelp much appreciated..

As a guitarist I learnt pretty much all I know from 'Chords and Scales for Guitarists' by David Mead. It's a great 'all in one' to music composition. I've then be able to transfer this knowledge into music production, so highly recommended!

The complete Idiot guide for music composition book looks very good definatly going to read that
