Hi all - just a quick question/opinion poll for you all. I'm looking at getting an AH xone:32 mixer, but just saw a nice price on a Rane MP22z. The rane works out to be ~$250 less. It's a used Rane, said to be in Good condition. My dilemma is this, do I go with the cheaper Rane or go for the new AH? Any ideas/comments would be great.

Peace,
Kevin

Not entering the "Rane X A&H" analysis, I'd say it's usually (not always) better to get new equipment. But it's a Rane, and some good 250 less also... that's a tough one, the Rane seems a better choice IMHO, I personally don't like some features of the Xone32. And for sound and built quality they're both up there. You're gonna have to go down to details (monitoring differences, EQ settings, etc...) to decide. Any chance to test both at least for a few minutes, just to get the feel?

hmm, somehow this is what i expected. thx for the reply though. but, no there's no way to test them out first. i saw the rane on a site and the a&h i'd order from that same company and am going off the reviews, etc. that i've heard about it. i'm almost learning towards the rane, esp. since i can get it cheaper, but i don't know...it's a tough one.

i've done enough arguing in other posts...i'm not going to start now.

i will just say that the sound of my A&H is bar none the best i've heard yet. it's studio grade and solid as a rock. you won't be disappointed

i'd like to get my hands on some rane stuff to see how it sounds. i'm sure it isn't much different from A&H

well...

i've decided to go with the rane. i figure w/ the price i'm getting it for i can't pass it up, plus the fact that i have 10 days to return it if i don't like it...so i think i'll be happy. i'll post once i receive it (hopefully tues) and give a run down. :D

that is the 1U mixer, the small one right?

if it is, that one is pretty tight, how do you like it?

yup, it's the 1U one, it's nice and compact but i like the fact that it's got a 4 ch. e.q. i haven't gotten it yet, but i can't wait to see how clean the sound is compared to the crappy stanton RM three i'm currently using, damn thing is so muddy.

It's head and shoulders above, Rane is top stuff and lasts a lifetime too. Congrats for the deal, IMO you've got a good one ;)

Keep us posted heh?

The way I see it you can't go wrong with either...
BUT! The mp22z is not 1U!
Here you go:

The one chet's talking about is the MP2

I can't imagine the mp22z being anything but better (a whole lot better for that matter.)

Have fun with whatever comes in the mail (hopefully the 22z :D)

Almost forgot: the MP2 has a 2 band eq not 4 that the mp22z has (but it seems kind of weak.)

drat, you know you're right gene - i've been off all day...esp thinking the MP22 was 1U, heh, oops

oh well, yup i'm getting the MP22, listed as the 22z, but it's the 22, so i'm really jacked about it, and come tues. or wed i'll share how it is. i've also heard it's top notch as sound is very clean and nice so you can't go wrong, eh?

Yeah, I'm sure you'll like it (that and saving money:victory:) I think the only change from the mp22 to the z is the addition of the crossfader contour control. The thing is the MP22 is no doubt older than the 22z, but being a rane it shouldn't be a problem.

Congratulations!

Ok never mind what I said about the changes. If you are getting a 22 not 22x or 22z I think you might want to return it unless the price is very right.
From the Rane site:
"Following the success of the MP 24 DJ mixer, Rane presented the MP 22 for smaller systems and budgets. Rane then released the improved MP 22x design which featured an Active Crossfader* and balanced outputs. The new MP 22z offers a new level of performance and flexibility with the addition of a full-range Crossfader Contour control."

Good luck.

I've spun loads and loads on the MP24z, MP22z and x models as well as the old ones (without the z and x) and I've gotta say that they're all excellent mixers. Sound quality is top notch and they're sturdier than Panther tanks. Wise choice my friend.

One thing though, you might want to get an external EQ, such as an EQkiller or one of the Vestax isolators, because teh channel EQ is just +/- 8dB.

Hey Mattu, is it Panther or Panzer tanks? :D:D:D Really, if you mean the WW2 german tank division, then it's Panzer (LOL). Well, J/K, either way it might be sturdy enough, we got the meaning... hehehe....:p

well, the day is here....i got the MP22 in the mail today and I must say you all were right. this thing is super tubby tight!! the levels are nice and smooth and the sound is really clear, unlike the stanton, haha

i'm really glad that i made the investment and went for it, i don't think i'll regret it one bit. it seems as though the cross fader might be new too, even though i don't really use it, since i play trance/progressive, but who cares....i've got a rane, and i don't see any signs of abuse or anything since it's a used mixer. overall i gotta give this 2 thumbs way up. now, just need to work on :dj: more since i can hear what i'm doing.

:D :D

thx for the words guys..

peace,
kevin

Panthers are American tanks, man. When I was like 11 or so I built a model of a Panther tank and blew it up with chinese crackers hahahahaha.

Congrats to the Rane, Kevin! You've made a very wise choice, I love those mixers.
