Rick sang better but Prince did have a better overall package. Singing production, instrumentation, stage presence. Killed the game. I'd go as far to say Prince is THE best artist ever! That's bold but there is only one guy who gives him anything close to comp. And his name is not Rick James.
 
Prince hasn't dropped anything that's even hit the radar in awhile. That Black Sweat song was blah...

Prince is raw no doubt... it just seems like music was more in Rick blood. His music had more feeling... more soul.

Princes music really isnt soulful though. his concerts also set him apart from Rick James IMO.. Dude is a hell of a performer
 
prince is great, but rick james gives me voice gives me goosebumps. that fools voice was crazy.

even when they stuck his voice over a newschool beat (Busta's In The Ghetto) he sounded at home.

Diamond and Pearls is soulful as hell. But if you are talking about a more soulful artist then Rick would win. But overall, there is no competition.

Is the argument better overall artist or more soulful/best voice because we seem to be having two different discussions?

You can't deny Prince's big ass handprint on the current music coming out. Rick James wasn't back in the public eye til Dave Chappelle. Rick is ill but not better than Prince by a long shot. Plus, like Black said, I grew up on Prince.

i grew up on rick james. Street Songs is one of my favorite albums. I have never been a Prince fan really.
