lol quit playin, thats clearly an HDR (High Dynamic Range) effect in the last one.

lol I swear that's not HRD, I've done HDR with RAW and various exposures. Thats just a jpg, I can remember saturating and and sharpening..

Does look like HDR not that you mention it though.

Hang on HDR .....
How many here are photogs ?
Someone start a thread !!!

I take the odd photo but they usual suck. Was thinking about buying a 2nd hand DSLR, but you need mortgages to buy decent lenses. But with my Cannon A590IS and CHDK to hack the firmware I can shoot in RAW, run scripts and the camera supports full manual exposure and appeture control.

Noble, how you like them monitors? They give you enough bass for a decent mix or have you just compensated for them over time?

I sorta like them, I mean for the price I paid (£50) they are good, but as monitors they aren't great but if your on a budget they can work. I have them connected to a sub.

Nice pic of Lennon up there, good touch :)

hey man what kind of Yamaha monitors are up there? ive been meaning to cope some, ..

Those are Yamaha's HS50M's. The smaller version of mine. I've got the HS80M's. They are the new version of the legendary NS-10M. And They're far better. Less tiring on the ear and more accurate.

You can't really compare HS80M's to NS10's. NS10's are passive, 6" woofer bookshelf speakers, HS80's are active 8" studio monitors.

finally got my studio all set up...bought my copy of reason/record duo last night at about 11 haha that stuff will be here tmrw now just gotta find a break in school to play with it all haha stupid college and advanced education. here it all is

the ns-10s advantage was that they were so inaccurate, and forced the engineers to boost the low end and treble, which in turn translated to a very good mix on other systems

I know what they are, and you CAN compare them if you've worked with both of them and know what the monitor gives you (regardless of their differences). And the NS10 was the industry standard for years as the "go to" reference monitor for mixing. It doesn't matter if they're passive or not. (I hate when people make arguments out of opinions)

What amp are you running your NS10's on? A radioshack 100watt amp or a Bryston 4B? Then it turns into a comparison of amp matching with NS10's. So it would be kind of inaccurate to compare NS10's with no specific amp, to HS80M's, but then if I change the amp it changes the factors of the comparison. I would say if you took the amp from the HS80's and powered the NS10;s it would be a comparison. I've heard NS10m's on a Roll power amp and a Hafler power amp. I def liked the Hafler better. Then I heard them on a Bryston B3 and liked them even better. Too bad I could only afford the Roll at the time. My NS10m's did me well while I had them, but I knew I could use a few other pieces before I dropped a grand on a Bryston. No problem with either monitor. But to say that your 80's are the modern day NS10 is a bit of an overstepped opinion. (I hate it when people make opinions out of arguments)

^^^People don't understand this.

With Passives the sound is really reliant on the Amp. With Powered monitors, you get the cheap amp they stuck in the back of each on. In it's defence HS80s are at the point when amps start sounding good, but I have some NS 6000 somethings(from the 80s not the new ones) and worked heavily on a pair of NS10s and HS80s in studios I worked out of. By no means do initials, model numbers, or advertising relate to reality. The sound difference between the 3 is night and day. If anything, I'd agree that the HS80s sound "good". "Best" is an opinionated word, but IMO any passive coupled with the right amp can blow low end powered monitors($100-700 avg.) with similar freq range out the water.

I hated the sound of NS 10s for years because they always sounded way too mid heavy and airy. I heard them thru the right amp in the right room, and finally understood.

This is why I'm always posting about passives/loudspeakers being the better option in low price monitoring.

Whatever... I didn't join the forum to argue with anyone. A forum is suposed to be a family and share our passion. Not to force opinions or claim that one knows more than the other. Love to all....

Love the Ultragain T1953...

I certainly understand the difference in sound from the NS10's to the HS50's (or 80's). We have some of the 80's at our studio now and I've used NS10's plenty of times (probably through a decent amp). I still call the HS monitors the "NS10's of today"...simply because Yamaha marketed them as such. They were made to replace them...if you will
