I see people give the late, great J Dilla his props, but no "pete rock is a god". Anyway, if you had to pick one who would you choose?

Pete Rock.

Dilla is overrated, I don't care what any dick rider says.

The guy was extremely talented, but he isn't the god that people make him out to be.

I agree sort of, He was great but people dick ride Way too hard. What do you think kcsherrell?
ps. i pick pete cuz...overall his catalog was much better

I know I'll catch hate, but whatever. I'm not hating or nothin, its just how I see it. I bet more than half of the people that are on Dilla's nuts either never heard of him or at least didn't think he was the greatest until after he died.

I gotta give it to pete just for the way he used his samples, but dillas drums reign supreme. for the record my choice is pete.

Ill give you that, yeah drum game: ridiculous, chopping:same thing
but you can find the same elements in pr songs like "#1 soul brother" or the sample layering of "i get physical" or hard soul of "Da Two or "cant stop the prophet remix"

I love Pete Rock for his results and body of work but creatively J Dilla reached for more. He didn't just flip samples, he played weird sh*t to actually create beats out of thin air and I appreciate that more than a straight sampling producer. Pete Rock wins still head to head but if he couldn't sample, he wouldn't have much of a chance against a guy like Dilla.

Well I think Dilla was a master of his craft and Pete Rock is also off the chain good!

Picking between them no thanks! But I will say this, when someone dies who is so important to the history and Art of something like Dilla was/is to Hip Hop and Production, you are going to see people give him God like status because he is gone!

Dilla was and is still one of the greatest ever and like his style or not, if people can't see that or the importance of his contribution to Hip Hop and Production than they are blind! There are producers who's style I don't mesh with, but I can still see the value of their contribution to this art! To say Dilla was wack or that people D!ckride is silly, IMO!

You got he right to your opinion, this is an art form and a way of producing art, so not everyone is going to have the same tastes. Just don't confuse that (taste) with judgement. You know what I mean? A lot of people will say ish like "So and So is whack" just because they ain't feeling his sh!t, you know?

I'm not saying you are doing that, but I see it a lot around here! If someone has a huge following or gets props like Dilla, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Dre, etc.... Its because they are dope! PERIOD! Now, you or I may not like someone's style or genre or whatever, but that doesn't take anything away from their skill or their contributions to the game!

Why can't we just admire artists for what they are and their accomplishments and leave the comparisons alone. It's always gotta be a this versus that. It's stupid.
