I don't know why it's "crazy" if people believe they can make more income from their music on soundclick and other online licensing avenues.

that may be more aspiring/appealing than that one producer who got a placement on a 2006 major and nothing since.

there aren't any rules to who to look up to.

agreed. its crazy how many new producers would rather look up to a dude on soudnclick rather than a cat in the industry. not to say that there arent any soudnclick dudes in the industry but how often does that happen

but is it really? It's no secret that the music industry especially hip hop is losing the glamor and wonder that it used to portray. I've heard a lot of people talking about how the era of the super producer is over and for the most part its true. SC producers like Team Hitz have shown that you can make money off of doing what you love without the industry. They have the same tools most aspiring producers have.

They have proven that with a couple hundred bucks you can build a brand, make money, and most importantly make music. I understand your concern, but at the same time, not only are they more relatable in the eyes of aspiring producers, there is no smoke and mirrors. Bedroom producahs and future producers can watch all the moves they make and learn from it. Not to give them too much credit, but they have kind of paved the way for producers to use social networking media and widely available, affordable tools to build a brand. It seems like thats where the industry is headed with artists like soulja boy and lil b gaining fans online and not through standard methods of breaking artists with major labels.

SC producers aren't sitting in million dollar recording studios, they are in apartments with a few workstations and some software just like a lot of us and are making the most of it. It only seems natural for aspiring beat makers to look up to them.

@Peezy: that's my point.

aspiring producers can probably see more money done off licensing multiple venues like on soundclick than shopping and investing in "the big one"

^^ lol that's true, and smithgrind is on point. epic post.

I used to check for SSO hard on SC, but now I'm pretty much just bored of the headliners over yonder.

i guess its all about what you aspire to do. but the transition atleast imo seemed to go from I want to be a super producer on MTV to I want to be a super producer on the internet real fast

that review sounds like it was written by juliano lol. I can point out 4 or 5 people on that list that he has ties with.. Sounds like one big promotion.

i agree its the wave of the future but why is it when cats were making money from soundclick in 2004 nobody looked up to those dudes. cats have been making a living off soundclick its not like these are the first few to do it. I remember back when you didnt even have to be good to make money off soundclick if u knew how to copy trends its crazy.

In all honesty..it was always like this.

Why is the top 20 full of dirty south?
Coincidence?

not at all. the south is hot right now. when the southern tracks die off and a new style pops it will dominate soundclick. in 2003-2004 it was all sped up soul samples that dominated soundclick. 05-06 it was all scott storch knock offs 07 and after has been pretty much southern joints

how did my name even get mentioned with all these topline producers?
