im buying my first piece of real hardware tomorrow.but im trying to decide wether to get an emu mp7 with a hardware sampler or an mpc 1000.both have pads so thats nice.i like the mp7 cause it comes with sounds, already has plenty of outs for tracking, and lots of knobs for tweaking and such wich would be great for doubling as a midi controller for my software.but one thing holding me back is no sampling, igot to have sampling capabilities.so ithought just add a hardware sampler like one of the emus.i feel this would be a great setup.now on the other hand i like the mpc 1000 as well has multiple outs, nice sequencer, and most important sampling, usb for drop and drag.i know the 1000 lacks in the sample editing department but i got that covered with soundforge anyways.right now i have an oxy 8 midi controller, reason 2.5,cubase sx2.0,recycle soundforge, and a few vst's,behringer 1604 a mixer ,delta 1010lt souncard, gemini turntables with ion mixer.im leaning towards the 1000 cause the samples will sound thicker and warmer than running them in reason rewired into cubase.any opinions on wich will compliment my setup better?pretty much what it boils down to is i want something that i can work away from the computer or with it

The samples in the 1000 will be thicker than software, but NOT thivker than an Emu rack sampler. Any of them. One thing we can ALL agree on is that Emu samplers have outstanding punch and great filters. I'd take a command station + Emu rack sampler over a MPC 1000 any day. You can find a XX-7 and a E5000 ultra for the same money as a 1000 on ebay. Plus, you can expand the XX-7 with roms. Those ebay deals on Emu rack samplers is a good deal because they have so many extras included in those auctions for these samplers. YOu can get hooked up easy. Plus, Emu patches on the emu sample CDs are GREAT sets and they go for cheap now. To me, a command station + Ultra sampler (any ultra sampler) is better than a MPC 4000. :)

hey trusty, funny thing we had this discussion before.i had asked if it was possible to transfer samples into the mp7 and you gave some answers.i realy think the mp7 would be a great addition to my setup because it is software basedand the mp7 would double as a killer midi controller plus i can use it to trigger all sorts of vsts and stuff and i can also trigger the samplers in reason til i get a hardware sampler.what r the drums like on the mp7?and whats the cheapest you think i can realisticaly talk the guy at guitar center down to.i know it would be cheaper to buy one of ebay but i rather get a new one with warranty and all that great stuff and know what im getting. i seen a few emu samplers at the pawn shops around my way for like 175 to 250.i think id have a hella of alot more features and possibilties with emu and sampler than the 1000.but ido love the thought of that drop and drag samples and editing on sounde forge since it s how i work now in reason just it would be in hardware would i be able to the same with another hardsampler?

Only on some uppper end Roland gear. But I think the new Boss SP-606 will have that capability too when it comes out. The problem with that unit is that it'll have a limited sequencer. But if you had the command station...problem solved. Plus it'll be intergraded with some software. I wouldn't pay more than $450.00 for the command station at GC.

thnx for the advice trusty.looks like yourealy love that mp7,lol.well im about to go out andsee which one i end up coming back home with.but if i can get emu for 450 the nbthat means i can get the emu hardware sampler i seen for 250,and have the best of both worlds.ill keep you posted trusty!

I LOVE my MV-8000, I like the combination of the Emu's over the MPC 1000.

If you get an MP7 ... look into getting the "Protean Drums" ROM ASAP.

My MP7 is loaded as follows:
Mo' Phatt ROM (standard)
Proteus Pop ROM
Protean Drums ROM
Beat Garden ROM

If I could, I'd replace the Mo'Phatt with a "Ensoniq Project ROM" and the Proteus Pop with a "World Expedition" ROM.
