The original question was mpc related so I figured more info on the different models would help. I love my 4k. It's missing nothing I want or need out of a drum machine/sampler. The software debate is another story. Dedicated computers do a slew of amazing **** that mpcs' or keyboards can't. If that's the direction were going then skip a mp altogether and go mobile( laptop, mbox, headphones ). As far as mpc superiority, if you make a hit record with pots and pans then they become superior!!!!!

Well, I originally gave a break down on the sound quality of the diff. models based on my experience with them. I only brought up PC's cause it seems cats want computer features on an MPC despite the fact that the CPU on MPC's can't handle big data very efficiently. I think the best MPC is the MPC60 or 60II actually. It has the most unique sound of the bunch. It's too bad the 60's can't be upgraded to have more memory than 26 seconds. Never messed with a 4000, but it seems suited for more composition based production than the others. Also, like I said before gotta love that 24/96K on an MPC. There is no true superior workstation. They all have pros and cons. To reitierate the overall original point..the MPC3000 due to the 16/44.1K sound engine sounds more similar to the newer models..like the 2000XL. But it has a bit more punch and 'warmth' or low end than the newer models. Whatever you rock, more power to ya, success is not defined by the tools you use.

I'm just curious about if the 3000 was such a successful and better sounding machine as everyone claims, why wouldn't the 3000 design be the foundation for building their newer model machines. Or is it, and people just dont think they're still designed after the 3000 for some reason.

The 3000 was the real deal when it debuted and carried the torch passed on from the 60. It was the standard for many producers and has been used in many great recordings. It probably would have been the benchmark, but Roger Linn and Akai parted ways. So the design of the newer models is very similar, but just as was said before, the 3000 has a better quality build and better overall components. Again, people have to realize the 3000 was manufactured and released during a time when there wasn't all this hype surrounding music gear. It was a professional tool built for profressional applications. I think that is the biggest difference in the older gear vs. the newer gear.

Thanks for the info. Its real nice to have peaple with experience give input. I wish I had a chance to get on a 3k. Does anyone know if Roger Linn helped design any of the other mpcs before the 3k? Are they going to put out another one this year?

Right on man. Matter of fact Roger Linn was involved with the 60 and 60II and then 3000. I am suspect of the 3000LE's because they were not made at the same time as the classic white ones..diff. production run. You aren't missing much rockin a 4000. Would really like to hear a beat produced totally @ 24/96K from a 4000 for comparison.

Whether Akai got another one in the works is really up in the air..somebody else on here may know. What they need is a compact 4000, like a 2500 with 4000 features. Not sure what else beyond that would even make a new MPC model an improvement over what exists already.

Do you have a link?

For me when it comes down to the MPC. Besides all the tech jargen. It's all about hands on beat making. Smashing on those damn rubber pads. It just makes ya feel better. Late!

Just blaze showed us what a 4k can do. Pete rock showed what he do on the 2kxl. Premier said he still on his 60 or 60(2). Kanye the 2000. Dre and swizz and lil jon and jazzy phe on 3ks. Cool and dre, salaam remi work 1ks. I guess it should be obvious that they all can get it done. Its all for the love of gear!!!!! Have that 500 been tested by any of you other "mpc players"
