heres the best way to get the trigger finger to work in reasons redrum.

this works for me at least and i have yet to encounter any real issues.
here goes:

1. hit the "memory recall" button on your t.f. and tap pad #16.
this is an "empty" bank on the t.f. and is left for the operator to program at his own discretion.

2. once you have preset 16 loaded , press "memory recall" and "prog/bank change" buttons to go into edit mode.

3. once in edit mode tap pad #1

4. after tapping pad #1 turn the knob that says "c1/note/min" until you see the icon that says "c1" appear on you lcd screen. you have just assigned the note "c1" to the first pad

5. tap pad #2 and assign the note "c.1" to it using the note assign knob as well. (notice the dot... after the letter C. this indicates a sharp)

heres a rundown of pad to note assignment:
pad1=c1
pad2=c.1
pad3=d1
pad4=d.1

and so forth.

remember though notes "E" and "B" have no sharps so you wont have an icon for them.

6. once you have all notes assigned like you want press the "save and exit" button quickly followed by the preset you want to save them to (i.e. pad)

for instance if you want to save to preset 15..press "save and exit" followed by pad#15.

this will save your changes to preset 15.

hopefully this is the information you need.

NOW...to get the t.f. to properly work in reason, first and foremost make sure all proper drivers are installed if need be.

1. go into reason and click on the edit tab and go to preferences.

2.once in preferences click on "control surfaces and keyboards"

3. click on the manufacturer tab and select "M-Audio"

4. under "model" select "other" "midi keyboard with controls"

5.select your input, which should be "USB" unless you have yours set up differently.

6.click "o.k" and youre done.

you have the option of using this as your master controller if you want to.

since i also use a keystation pro 88 i dont have it selected as a master.

also, your global channel is now channel 1 so it will automaticly work with whatever instruments you pull up.

once again, i hope this info serves you well.

contact me if any further help is needed.

and by the way, ive only had my trigger finger a few days, so this goes to show how easy it is to use once you get past the initial rush of wanting to bang out beats as soon as you get it.

late.

oh yeah...enigma does suck.

Hey man, you guys are the man, thanks for everything I got it working and the problem was when i added it to reason, i selected midi controller but i went back and redid it as midi keyboard and that is what made it work. Crazy huh?

But I got one more problem now. when i play P3, it not only plays drum sound 3 but also plays 7 and i cant fix it. But whats weird is if i play P3 really soft, it wont play the 7 sound and will only play the 3 sound. Can someone tell me whats wrong?

you need to adjust the pressure sensitivity on your pads globally. this will keep other pads from trigering when you hit specific ones. try that and see if it works. if not, you may have a defect on your hands.

How exactly do I adjust the sensitivity globally?

I know when I go to edit the keys and press P3 when i press it down it say d1 bnut holding it and releasing it will say F.1

whats the deal with that? HELP!!!!!!

Hey guys I have a question for you since you seem to be a little ahead of me with the trigger finger. I just go mine a few days ago and have been infatuated with it. However I also just got Live 4 and have been trying to learn how to use the two together and have ran into some problems. This thread cleared up one of them but I have another question that I want to know if it is possible:

Can I program some of the pads to play instrument notes? For example assign 4 pads to play 4 different piano notes or cords? If so how do I do this in Live? Im guessing this is possible but I just cant figure it out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I not sure about using it w/ Live. I have FL and use it w/ FPC and can program each pad to whatever.

diesal.....in FL can you use the trigger finger for something like the piano roll and assign seperate pads to seperate notes? The end result being something like 4 notes that I can make the melody of my beat out of without buying a keyboard?

With FL, I can click FL Keys, and play only 16 notes with the TF. Just use you PC keyboard and you can play away.

I tried that once before when I didnt have the TF but I could never get it to record. How do you record what you are playing on the keyboard? I never really got into FL so maybe I jsut didnt spend enough time with it.

To record on FL, click the R icon top righthand corner, the record button, click play button, also click the "wait" icon so it doesn't start recording until u hit ur first note.
If u have a registered version of FL, go to the website, they have several tutorials that have been really helpful for me.

Thanks..I'll take a look at the tutorials online.....back to my first question....does anyone know what the Live equivelent of FL keys is? Or how to use the TF to create a multi note melody in Live either for something like a piano or bass?
Can I do this with the things that come with live or do I need to use a plugin?

Also, how are you guys using reason and live together?

Thanks again in advance

Whats the trigger finger used for? I've been hearing a lot bout it lately and have no clue what it does and what it can be used for. OnE.

The TF is a midi controller with 16 drum pads instead of piano keys.
It is used to trigger the sounds from whatever software you are using.

I don't use ableton live so can't help you with that. Try checking Ableton's site for a forum if that fails holla back the M-Audio techs. But in Reason it's easy to do just program each pad a different key note. I like playing bass lines with it.

holla!

yo lil jbm.....when you say program the pads to different key note do you mean within the software by changing the key of a sample or do you mean programing the actual pad either using enigma or just edit mode?

I don't use the enigma software.I program directly to TF. You can use the steps on page 1 of this thread to program your on preset for each pad.I take the preset 16 and all pads programed to sixteen different key notes.For example: Pad 1:key note C1,Pad 2 key note:C.1,Pad 3 key note:D 1 keep going through all sixteen pads.On the TF the (.) represents flats and sharps.

Read up on the manuals to check for the default (Preset) for the program your using the TF and program the pads that aren't playing.With Reason the default is 15 for redrum. Ableton live Presets are 10 and 11. You may see doubles on the preset so change to diff. key note or change the velocity.

Do you use reason3.0?

Jackin J,
I peeped your site, for house music you should mos def like freakn beats and breaks with the TF. You know where i can get some soulful house.For example house vibes artist like al b sure and other old R&B vocals on house beats.

holla back,
JBM
