i need an audio interface, i was thinking should i spend some more money on a unit that has more capablilities, i dont have much, i have a mic and 2 keyboards, so should i stick with a 410 since i dont have much, and plus like i'm gonna build up in the future, so later on i can add on a mixer to the 410. right? what's your opioions?

i'm actually going to upgrade to the 410 to expand in I/O...which leaves it open ended for expansion (minimal miking)....if your planning on rec. a lot of live inst. then the 810 is just rite 4 u because it also has adat litepipe abilities...hope that helps

yes i will be doing a lot of recording and live instruments, thanks for the help so the 1814 is the better choice, right?

opps i called it 810...yeah its the best...m-audio makes preamps that can take advantage of adat...so i think thats at least 8 simultanious i/o recording could be more..that enuff to mic a drum kit

I heard the Presonus is better, but if you need Pro Tools, the 1814 is the way to go.

I thought w/ ProTools you HAD to have a m-box or digi?

That is for PT LE versions or above...but you can get the M-powered version of PT to use with M-audio devices.

TRUE...

I ended up with the Firewire 1814 since the sales guy sold the 410...

but I got it for $345... is that a good price?

I decided NOT to go with the Firewire 1814 or any M-Audio interface when I bought my first ProTools rig this past week.

After a lot of reserach and a lot of reading user reviews, all of the M-audio interfaces are reported to have serious software driver problems, defective knobs, LEDs causing hums in the input signals... the list goes on and on.

So I decided on ProTools LE with the Mbox2. And later this summer, I'm hoping to upgrade to the brand new Digi 003.

Make sure you do thorough research on any interface that you need to count on for recording your tracks. It'll save you a lot of time, money, and frustration later.

$345 is a good price for the Firewire 1814 though, especially if its new with the factory warranty.

Just my 2 cents.

I want the MBox 2. I may return this and go that route so I won't have to screw around with M-Powered.

Do you know if the MBox can be used with other programs like Cubase, Reason or on the MAC Logic?

I will have to come up with another $100, but I think I can swing it in a couple of weeks.

EDIT:

BY THE WAY!!!!

on all the M-audio products I have used, you have to install the driver package first and then attach your device. Old school days was install hardware first and then drivers. This is not the case anymore as it may cause your PC to act erratically.

I think that is why people are having problems with the M-Audio stuff. I have not ran into any HW driver problems with M-Audio... I have the Akai's MPD though... the MPD24 was not compatible with the MB chipset on this Dell D620 laptop.

The Mbox2 works with the following programs, as far as my testing goes:

ProTools LE (obviously)
Cubase SX3
Reason 3
FL Studio 7XXL
Recycle 2.1

it does NOT work, with Cool Edit Pro 2.0 which sucks because thats my main WAV editor.

If you are in school and have a school ID, go to www.sweetwater.com and you can get the Mbox2 with ProTools LE 7 for the educational discount price of $350. All you have to do is email them a copy of your ID. Thats what I did.

i have a m-audio 1814 and i have not experienced any problems with input noise or defective knobs, etc. there's no difference whether you're using protools LE versus m-powered other than it's namesakes. they are all cross-compatible and offer the same features and technical support
