Just Installed A P&G Crossfader

......into my Vestax 05 Pro and I must say that I can tell a difference in the crispness of my cuts. The only complaint that I have is that the knob sits too far up on the crossfader leaving alot of space between the bottom of the knob and the surface of the mixer. My fingertips keep getting stuck between there. Simple problem though. I can fix it. Nice fader though. Got it off ebay for $70. Not too bad I guess, considering that I've seen them for a $100 or more.

P&G are good faders...definatly butter feeling...its what my stanton SA-5 has...speaking on that...mine is starting to bleed (again)...so I pray another cleaning will fix things up...I find that the rail will get dirt and oil on it and come in between the contacts and fader rail and interfere with the sound
 
So Rreal, which fader would you say is better, the Vestax faders that come with 05s or the P & G that you just installed?
 
Is it possible to install a p+g fader into a Vestax 07? i need a new fader, as i accidently was a spaz n used WD40 on it. :( my fauly completely.

Well Nut, so far it's a toss up in my honest opinion. The P&G has a slightly sharper cut in on it which has made my crabs and flares more defined to the ear. I can really tell the difference.
BUT.....while it may be sharper in that aspect it's definitely not as loose as my 05 fader. It is slightly stiffer-not much to make a difference once you get used to it-but stiffer none the less. The real test is going to be the quality and durability of it. I used my 05 fader for almost 4 years with NO problems at all.The only reasons I switched it out was because the P&G was $70,my other 05 needed a crossfader and I had heard only good things about the P&G faders. My 05 fader is still good. I put it into my backup 05 pro. So, only time will tell about this fader. So far, so good but as of right now I'm happy using either one. So for right now it's a tie.

Yes it is. The 05 and 07 use the same model crossfader. Just keep the "click" plate from the Vestax fader and use it on the P&G fader so it will fit.

woah....u kidding me?? u never had a png in ya mixer? and u been cuttin for time, right? that surprises me.

the build quality of the png is FAR superior than the standard faders, thats a straight fact.

regular pcvs are clunky and feel nasty man!!! proper cheap...

the png can be loosened easily to adjust the tension, there will be places online that u can find that info out. (asis - on the mod section more than likely)

the cut in on a png is 1.5 mm i think....the reg pcv is 4 or 5...but..ive modded a pcv with a credit card and some rubber and its nice and quiet AND as sharp as a png...

but yo....pngs feel lurrrvly!

theyre just a rip off at the price. lol

Sorry to post jump, but I think there could be quite a lucrative market in fader mods you know... with Vestax bringing out official little rubber bits that just clip onto their pcv faders for about £15, someone selling mods for £10 could make a killing!

Nope, never had one man. But like I say to me it's a toss up. My Vestax fader is one that was made before 2000. You know after 2000 is when Vestax started to get cheap. Maybe that's why my 05 fader feels decent and lasted so long.
 
Rreal, is the only mod you have to do to the PnG is change the kick plate? Does the vestax plug go right into the PnG, or do you have to do some more work?
On another topic, a guy on eBay (DJ Frost I think) used to sell modified Vestax PCV faders. He sold 4 or 5 PCV faders that had different stages of mods done to them, such as different kick plate metals, different fader pin metals, lightening of the fader pin by shaving, etc... I never bought one cuz I didn't have a Vestax mixer at the time, but now that I have a 07 I wish he was still selling them. He had some really good feedback on them, and he gave a 6 month replacement warranty.

Yeah. I remember that dude. He called them Frost Faders. I almost bought one but instead I bought a modified pcv fader from a dude called Sweet beats. He apparantly works or worked at Stacks Vinyl at the time. That fader was soooooo nice. But it only lasted a year before it started bleeding real bad. To answer your question about the P&G, the only mod that I was informed of being done to it was putting an 05/07 pro click plate on it. That's it. The connector plugs right in. No extra work. All I did was open the package and install it. That's it.

I have the wack new vestax faders, and i put caig lube on all 3. if F'd up my up's but helps the cross. I suggest, for you, take you faders out. take them apart, and clean them with 91% isopropyl (rubbing alcohol). It helped my up faders a lot. after i had cleaned them a bunch of times they stopped crackling. then my friend got the radio shack lube. and i used that ish on the faders. once again, it made the cross tits, and the ups slide real nice, but they started crackling again! So dont use any lube on your ups if you rock a vestax mixer. Just take them apart and clean them with alcohol.
 
Is the PnG fader optical or magnetic? or is it just really nicely built contact fader

I'll have to pull it back out and see if there is a # for it. I don't remember seeing anything except the PnG logo on it.

ANJROO, I think it's an optical fader, man.

the penny and giles fader is a contact fader....not magnetic or optical or anythign like that....

think about it....your mixer determines how audio signals are interpreted...so ur mixer basically determines whether ur faders are contact faders, or new optical / magnetic models...

optical / digital / magnetic units work in very different ways to original analogue units!

penny and giles originally made faders for sh!t like airplanes an that sort of thing (if my memory serves me correctly), and theyre built really damn solidly....and each part of the unit can be replaced seperately if necessary...

for anyone who is unsure:

a mixer that takes regular PCV faders, will, with very few exceptions, also accept png faders - your mixer however may need some additional holes drilled into the housing as to screw ur fader unit to the mixer itself...

there are a lot of things you can do to faders to give them instant cut ins, make them smoother, lighter etc...

theres a wealth of material on the internet on how to modify things if anyone is interested to look :)

But didnt DJ rreal have a focus fader in a n 05? the focus fader is optical isnt it?

How do digital faders work anyway? like on the vestax samuri series? like you said must be a totally digital audio signal runnin thru the mixer
