There's no way Def Jam bought 100,000 copies. Come on. Ok, so they maybe they copped some, but you guys seriously think they'd fork up $1 million to hype Jadakiss?

Can someone please explain this to me? How exactly would they do that? Give 100,000 ppl $10 to walk into a store and cop Jadakiss? lol jk....no seriously tho...how would they that?

why not? people have spent more money for less reasons..

why not fork up a million bucks to hype up Jadakiss album

How would they do it though? I'm curious.

i guess they do it similar to the Lil wayne type of ****! Carter 3 aint sold a Millie the first week ither, but they mad eit look like it! I think there was a thread on it too...

Imo that makes no sense. Buy up that many records but not use that money to flood tv and radio? Did u not see the numbers his labelmates ace hood, sterling simms and the dream put up??? I don't know how that number is so shocking to u all it's pretty consistent with his first week numbers of his first two considering whats out. Those were about 200 and 240

The label doesn't purchase actual albums they pay Nielsen SoundScan to inflate the numbers. This is not to say this occurs with every release you see on the charts because it depends on the project's importance to the label at the time it drop. Its common knowledge in the music business that Def Jam has a history of payola with Nielsen for marketing purposes (not only to the fans but to their INVESTORS who keep the ship afloat based on confidence).

This doesn't take away from the fact that Jadakiss does have a solid fan base because if he didnt Def Jam wouldnt have released his project at all. The fact that he hasn't expanded his core audience, combined with the album format decline makes his top selling target GOLD, which would mean Def Jam would have made back its investment (but nothing much more) and Jada has a reason to go back on the road where his real money is at anyway. Instead of album sale charts there needs to be a new 'gross revenue' chart that combines album sales/publishing/tour/merch/download/etc. Show the real money...but of course its not in the best interest of the 'powers that be' to reveal the real #'s and expose their cheating practices

Well that's just ****ed up.

I just did some research. The alleged inflation tactics at def jam was a lie and it was thrown out in ny supreme court in 2007 because the former exec claiming it admitted to lying about it, do a google search. If u have a news article proving otherwise please show me

What I stated earlier is not from a outsider perspective but from within the system itself and its not exclusive to Def Jam. The whole business is built on lies, shams and decit with 'fairness' being the exception rather than the rule so when I say the Soundscan #'s have been tainted its not speculation its factual. Just like the Billboard charts were prior to Soundscan being invented. Just like the royalty statements are tainted so most artists NEVER see a royalty check, just an advance towards their next album. If they owe you they will just lie and say they don't and dare you to audit them. Let me not even talk about most of these producers being hijacked for their publishing but everybody wants the fantasy instead of the reality. Crooks run this business, some paper, some muscle, some with a little of both.

What was that scream??? Another artist/producer being raped by the machine...

Man, I just keep learning more and more. And I thought man rape was only popular in prisons..... smh@ the machine. LMAO...

Laugh Now Cry Later

Lets see if Def Jam has any POST-release marketing initiatives so the project doesn't quickly drop down and wither away. The real test for the future of mainstream rap music is with the new generation who will have to fight for their lives to even get to retail much less sell any real units. Most of the money for the future leaders like Drake, Cudi, etc... will be far LESS dependent on album sales and more on a total 360 business effect. Or else its the Ron Browz/Maino effect for ya

Whoa Whoa.... can you explain the Ron Brownz/Maino effect? Is there a reference I can check out. I'm not a fan of those guys and I assume that was a diss... and I really want to LOL right now, but I'm totally ignorant to their effect on anything in a positive manner anyway.

The divorce between hit radio singles and the CD album format. They are just the current example of the broken formula for new rap artists. Flo Rida falls into the same catagory except his digital download #'s were big enough to get his album out, which was just thrown out to the wolves by Atlantic because they had to protect the profit margin gained by the download singles. Why blow extra 5 million trying to push Flo Rida to 1.5 million albums when you can take your win and walk away from the table. Its not about how much money you make but how much you SPENT. The only way to get around this for the new generation is to BUILD YOUR CORE AUDIENCE. No core audience? No album sales, particularly in the hip hop genre. Which is why the top artists are edging to the POP edge where there is some land left to stand up on the ever-rising flood.

Man, mind blowing! It makes sense... but I would think that this divorce would be a positive. But it's not evening anything out... I got it

I kind of wish it was a diss though. Anyway learn something new everyday. If you wasn't before ... you are now officially the Messiah of FP.

Trust me, that's not even a big "promotional budget". Not to mention the just redistribute them. The only reason I'm giving this even a second of thought is I've been on the west coast where dudes can go gold without a video on TV and NO major backing whatsoever. But keep in mind if all of Cali is bumpin' your sh*t, that's the equivalent of all of the east coast from NY down to at least SC or GA bumpin' your sh*t.

And I'm still hearing no one with this Jada album.
