Is Kanye a genius with samples?

^^^And going back on my prior statement...I'm confused to why producers call this stuff "***ing amazing".

It's quite elementary. Not just this, Storch, JR Rotem, most composing from scratch producers as well.

Why do you feel these guys are doing so much? Is it that you do so little, or is it that you're judgement of their greatness is jaded by who they are.

God bless Dilla, great man, I was privaleged enough to meet and converse with him, but I've gotten into this before. What seperates him from 9th, Just Blaze, Kanye, ect. besides him passing and everyone acting like he was a legend. When he was alive he was overshadowed by Pete Rocks, Primos, Kanyes, RZAs, even Large Professors.

But after an untimely passing, he's on everyone's lips. If he was still alive it would be maybe 3 threads in the history of FP about dude. Now apply that to what I've been saying. All these dudes are mortal as f**k and do nothing you shouldn't be able to. Their placement in the mainstream will get them acknowleged more, but when you as a producer start thinking they're doing something you and millions of others trying to make it aren't...

Just saying....

The Flip

The Craziest Flip in the ****ing world. I dare anyone to try and remake that flip. THAT is the definition on flipping...and yeah ur video on kanye was cool...but see thats the first step in producer evolution...if yall like me, being 20 and making beats for almost 4 years, kanye influenced u, and im dam sure a kanye fan who made beats went and fiund his samples or prob had them in their moms and pops old record collection " ive had through the fire in my moms old cabinet for ma whole like never knew i had a hit right there in my hands" anyway, and u found his samples u said " oh dam i wish i sampled that '. Dilla makes u say " i wish i can THINK like that ".

I take nothing away from Kanye, and there's not many of his beats I could say I dislike. However, I would personally take the title and status of "legend" and "genius" over "hit-maker" any day. I want to make a track that 10 years from now, cats will listen to and wonder how I flipped it or where I came up with the concept. Not something that dudes are only gonna rock for the next 10 mins, until the next hot song comes on the radio. It's not to say that if the opportunity arose, I wouldn't be thrilled to be a multimillionaire producer, but I hope I'm known one day not because of $$$, but because of some ridiculous ass music.

Kanye is a "Multimillionaire Producer" and makes "Rediculous ass music"

Lol.

I agree with a lot of this. I gauge my tastes in music as far as good best better ect on how good the actual song is regardless of who did it. But Ill admit I had no clue who Dilla was until after he died but I knew quite a few of his records.

thats not really a crazy flip. its good but its not like he did anything with it really. Im 26 and ive been making beats for 7 years and while I love Kanye and he has some influence on my production especially when I started in 2003 hes still not the best to ever do it or even of the last decade. I dont see how cats can just overlook Just Blaze. His beats murdered Kanye's in every way when put side by side. Kanye wouldn't get nearly all of the love he does if he wasn't an artist too imo.

I love blaze, really do. But I wouldn't agree that anyone is overlooking just blaze. But how is blaze a better producer than kanye? He also doesn't chop much, sometimes he even doesn't do sh*t to the sample (see usher's 'throwback'), other musicians often lay the keys on his tracks. They worked with same artists, contributed same amount of 'classic' tracks. And still, 9 out of 10 people on this forum will put Just Blaze in front of Kanye anytime. IMO they are equal.
The funny thing is that kanye is kinda the most overrated and underrated producer at the same time IMO. People fail to see that behind that cocky attitude, designer clothes and big ego lays a talented musician. Those who love him will put him on pedestal and those who hate him will simply hate on him ignoring the fact he is a decent producer. And about him not being in the top 100... i mean c'mon...

I agree with a lot of things deranged said... Basically, they're all overrated... Give me their studio, their equipment, the artists they work with, hype about them and I will make classics... Fu*k em all, I'm the best producer in my mind...

Btw nice track xabiton.... Maybe in 30 years from now people will be arguing on this place about your kids talent... who knows :)

1) Deranged is owning this thread right now

2) What dood said b4 me

3) Hell give ME their equipment watch me make some Back To The Future music quickly...

And Just Blaze is something else on those drums. And Dilla is good at what he does but he's also a typecast producer AS FAR AS I'VE HEARD FROM HIM. Still, Dilla is ill, true.

Kanyievel fan. Dude just makes albums worth of DIFFERENT SOUNDING SHIT. Bout to go back to my Late Registration days with him.

And please don't compare the two. That's just dumb.

I put Just Blaze over Kanye simply because he had better drums and I put Bink over both of them even though he got 1/10 the classics as them.

Kanye is something else 4sure

American boy, wow his lyrics and the way he spits them kind of in a melody. But anywho, he prod. a track w/ Asher Roth and that track goes good with some lemonade and a sandwhich ill tell u that much.
It's ca//ed ****THE MONEY.

whats a flip????????????????????

A flip is when you take a song and sample it in a song of your own. The song you make, in effect, is called a flip, i.e. flipping the sample.

I have a headache now, feelin blonde.

Personally for me Kanye West is the one of the illest producers ever!!!! Everybody's sayin' that it's so Easy to remake his sh*t and that he samples popular songs from other genres of music..Yeah maybe that's true BUT! The key word is REMAKE! Nobody would never come up wit stuff like Stronger, Love Lockdown, Amazing and etc! He has alot of originallty and creativity in him! So yeah for me he is a genious and a great teacher when it comes to sampling!!

beat for beat I think the final products show for themselves. Kanye is far from wack. Hes a dope dope producer and songwriter. But put Just's best beat against Ye's and I think most people would pick Just.

thats what im talking bout, kanye is ahead of our time and he had ill ideas sometimes

for me, kanye is hot PLUS he made classics, if he didnt, why the people still love that blueprint hova shit from 2001? college dropout is a classic. nobody gives a **** about production, the consumer hears the music and they like it or not.

Kanye has made some great records. Classics maybe I don't see College Dropout as his classic or even his best album personally. But you kinda killed your point in your last sentence consumers dont care about beats thats why people still love the blueprint its a dope album. One of the last few really well put together albums with a sound going throughout the entire record. Why is it when people bring up the first blueprint album they neglect to remember that Bink had a huge role in that album too. Him Just and Kanye each had 4 beats on the album and really defined the sound of it.

Deranged is to got at this debating shit, should have been a politician, I swear.. Dude could argue with Eskimos and convince them they live in the tropics.

Whats he ever done that's made him ahead of his time?

Honestly this holds alot of weight. Its the Biggie/Tupac syndrome. You never really appreciate somebody until their gone.

what i mean is they dont care if you chop your samples in 1 million pieces or if you just loop 8 bars from a song. if it sounds hot, it sounds hot period.

Whats he ever done that's made him ahead of his time?

college dropout. everybody wanted that "kanye sound". the way he pitched the vocals up it was something different. not really new but he brandmarked this style. that shit was hot in 2004.

Anyone else crack up when they read this?

yeah here lol...
