Sounds like you're tryingto force yourself to do something you CLEARLY don't want to do.

You want to have the desire to do it (enough to make u work for it) but you don't.

I want my desire to play basketball to be strong enough to ge out there and do it...but it's not. So I haven't picked up a ball in years.

You want a career in music, just not bad enough to work at it.

So go and get a job. Why are u agonizing over it? Just get a job and live happily ever after.

Me loving and wanting a career in music is not an issue. Its all I think/dream about and work towards. Im just going through a creative block right now.

And all I dream about is banging Halle Berry, but i"m not about put forth the effort of getting my skin bleached to do it.

4 years without making music is not a creative block...it's a lack of desire. Making music isn't that hard. You got beat block, you just work thru it. Even the best pipes get clogged sometimes. But you can't turn off the water, you gotta keep it flowing.

You aint' made music in 4 years, it's time to give it up.

I havent made anything I consider to be extremely advanced from my normal output. I have been consistently sampling and getting rough demos for my music together but I have reached a point where I cant move my music forward. However, I feel if I could get the chance to work with the right individuals then it can cross that line. I have written a lot more songs in the time since I was heavy into making music(not beats, music) and also started to record my voacals which is something I never did up until recently.

The NO WAY im not pursuing music as a career. No way.

Yeah I kinda had a feeling that collaborating would help move me on as I have never worked with anyone musically before. Plus im all self taught so for all I know I could be doing things the hard way etc.

I actually started working on a song last night that has some real potential.......I just hope I can take it to where it needs to be.

I have been going through the worst creative spell in my life recently and I'm starting to wonder if I'll ever make it out.

I haven't made a whole piece of music in about 3 years. Good or bad. Maybe even close to 4 years.

Throughout that period I have been steadily listening to samples and making notes on the ones I feel could make some really dope music. However, when it comes round to actually making the beat I cant bring myself to do it. I can chop the sample up and make a rough loop but when it comes to adding drums, instruments, vocals etc I just cant do it. I have no patience.

I have over 200 samples ready and waiting to be used but I just cant get in "that space" to make them work.

I also have something close to over 100 snippets of beats that I started creating but hit a wall. :banghead: These are beats I feel can be something special but I just cant take them to the next level.

My dream is to be a producer/emcee/song writer which I know I have the ability to do but nowadays I would JUMP at the chance to be a sample-digger for another producer.

Anyone ever been through anything like this??

You should team up with Super Producer Solar... he's on the market again.. no heauxmeaux

When I read the title I thought you were retarded.... no seriously... I thought you were physically challenged or something.... instead you have a psychological problem.

I tell you what homie, watch many beat making videos several days straight, your eyes and brain will absorb everything, when you sleep at night it will get into your subconscious. Also watch the longer videos which go for 1 hour from start to finish, even if that means to go to pay sites like todaysbeats.com (they have free videos too). I think it's intimidation linked with perfectionism on your part that hinders you to even start. Make skeletons one after the other to get rid of that perfectionism, learn to take bad criticism (very important).

See if that loosens you up.

damn i feel for some of you its been maybe a few days for me and its kuz i have been focused more on finding keyboard sounds

I just don't see how you can have beatblock with somebody elses music...they've already done half the work for you!! If you're struggling with that, I would say music production isn't for you.

Bringing up a bullsh*t argument about sampling verses composed beats/music is not gonna get this thread anywhere........move on.

I thought u were just shamelessly self promoting at the start but I think the intimidation/perfectionist theory could have something to it.........u got a link to any of your vids?

(im not payin for any tho!)

It's not my site, it was just a suggestion, don't concentrate on the details of my post but on the core point.

I'm not trolling...seriously...if you can't form songs off of someone else's music for 4 whole years...something is wrong. That's like a carpenter not being able to build a birdhouse, despite all of the pieces already coming pre-made.

He didn't even start "making beats" everything before the 4 years don't count.

In my original post I explain that I have almost hundreds of part made "beats" which are dope to me and have potential.......my problem is that I just cant seem to take them to the next level......Ive really hit a creative block physically even though I can hear what I want to do with the tracks in my head.

Like ive said in many of my previous replies I think the problem lies in me not working with/learning from other producers/musicians. Hopefully I can be around people who can help me move forward and show me how to advance my craft.

You might want to get a partner... Sounds like you need someone to bounce ideas off of. Or at least someone to physically press the buttons and keys...

Be careful.

Last time I suggested that I was accused of wanting Stevie Wonder to fall in my lap so I can have a free ride

Also gotta love the people who suggest you're not cut out for it, and in the process give off the vibe that God himself created them for the sole purpose of making music.

Us mere mortals sometimes get hung up but the legends of FP got it all figured out, now apologize for your insolence.

Anyways, if you need inspiration there's lots of things you can do- listen to new music, maybe focus on just recreating existing songs, maybe go see some live shows, maybe trip on some mushrooms or something.

Could really be anything you just have to figure out what kind of things drive you. I think a lot of it is more about knowing yourself than anything. As for setting days aside from practice I don't really think that's a good idea you'd probably be better off practicing a little every day.
