Im Starting with nothing but a fairly new laptop. Should I go out and buy a key board and software or nah....I have nobody to help so I have to ask these stupid "Newbie" questions.

Nice post! Do you guys know if there is a recommended volume for doing long producing sessions? (% of maximum) (for how long is it ok?)
 
your work volume level should be 85dbspl - this is not a % of maximum but a calibration of your monitoring setup - depending on your metering setup and actual physical monitor power structure, you could be working at -20dbfs, -14dbfs or -12dbfs in your daw - the levels in your daw should be calibrated to produce 85dbspl on your monitors - so you will need to work with an spl meter as well as room treatment to get this right
 
That was a good read. Even after doing this for what seems like a blink in time, reading & practicing new techniques is only going to make you better.
